Who would you be? Be you a Dalish who's love for nature and your people decides your actions and your view on the world? Or maybe you're a Dwarf, exiled from your homeland and ready for a little payback against those who have disgraced you. Or someone totally different, ready to march with Hawke on his journey?

So we're all the main character but I want to know who you would be if you were following a Hawke, your Hawke, my Hawke and so on and so forth. We're all used to being the protagonist of a story, we make the choices and we're the star and while this is great I'm wondering how would you see yourself if you weren't the main feature of a story. So to help you understand what I'm saying think of it as you're Hawke's right hand man and you're...

And since it's my thread and it would be rude to not partake of this myself I shall get this going,

I'd be a tall Dalish, standing half a head taller then most men. Broad shoulders and chest make me look more akin to a thin, small Qunari but the features of my face and mostly my ears are a clear sign of my lineage. As First to my clan's Keeper I set forth with the bold human known as Hawke to learn what I can of the outside world, to protect my people better of course. And maybe for a bit of adventure. I fight beside him with my dal'thanu in my right hand with my left hand left to channel the primal forces I command.

When Hawke is talking to the various inhabitants of the realm(which is a great deal, I know no shem who talks to as many people as he does) I'd be fully armed with a joking remark or some kind of condescending quip. Of course though I'm not openly nice to the Shemlen, flat ears and durgen'len I hope to help those who need it, but not to the point where I'll assist those who can do for themselves.

I hope that is a pretty good example of the kind of thing I was talking about in case anyone didn't quite get what I was trying to ask. And I hope I was clear as to what kind of companion character I would be. So who are you when you're not the star of the show?

I am Edwin Odesseron. A member of the Red Wizards of Thay, I have been dispatched to the Kirkwall region to assassinate Dynaheir. When I am first encountered, I ask for Hawke's help in hunting her down. This quest is in direct contrast to the one received from Minsc, who wishes to save Dynaheir from a band of Darkspawn. I enjoy insulting Hawke with my haughty and sarcastic remarks, and frequently mutter under my breath about how I intend to manipulate and overthrow my fellow party members.

When asked about my past, I sneer that I have no intention of revealing such information and that it is none of your business. I further state that you are lucky enough to simply share my company, and then mutter something about leaving whenever I wish.

(He obviously cares little for the camaraderie of others, and seems to take more pleasure in speaking to himself than in interacting with the party. Oddly, he seems unaware that others can hear him when he talks to himself. His attire brazenly displays the colors of the Red Wizards of Thay, though why a member of that organization would come so far in this direction is puzzling. Edwin does not seem forthcoming with any information.)

Quotes:

"I'm busy, okay? I'm busy!
"Go bother someone else!"
"Again you disturb me."
"Greetings. I am Edwin Odesseiron. You simians may merely refer to me as 'Sir,' if you prefer a less... syllable-intensive workout."
"'Edwin do this,' 'Edwin do that,' somebody get this jerk a banana!"
"What is it NOW ?"

it was elminster here a proof carefull of bg spoiler

Edwin's character ending in Throne of Bhaal reveals that, after the game and a series of exploits befitting his great power and lack of common sense (such as conquering all of Thay - for a day), he will end up in a hostile confrontation with Elminster, and will as a result be left permanently as a woman

Good think there is no Elminster in THIS universe. The New Edwin will rule all (as it should be)

Ohhh, I forgot that bit. I thought he was referring to the netherscroll. Then again...he did get cured of that. It's funny, I got the Edwina refference in DA:O, I managed to remember that part of the epilogue ok. Just...not the Elminster part. lol

I'd be a smith type person (human, elf, or dwarf... doesn't matter. Maybe even qunari if they have people like this) that tinkers around with stuff trying to make some great invention or something. Kind of like a medieval Macgyver. Just don't blame me when half of Kirkwall goes up in a giant mushroom cloud... because it wasn't my fault... its the instability of lyrium mixed with silverite-nitrate! I swear.

I'd be a ninja.

There's already a pirate, so balance must be restored.

True: they say "yarr!" whereas ninjas just go "..."

Er anyway.  I quite like the idea of being a Bodhan-like: get rich, bum about the camp fire, have the security of a bunch of the most lethal people around, stay out of trouble other than getting covered in soup.  That sounds like the life for me.

i'd be the guy who sits in his camp all day and when he comes back from a long day of saving the world hassle him to buy a cheese knife from me, but that's when i reveal there is no cheese knife in my inventory but rather loads of over priced potions.

I'd probably be a smartass (and emphasis on the ass) sword & shield warrior, but with a working moral compass, and a disgust for blood magic.

EDIT: And he has a foul temper, just to make him more like me.
