Depnds on what Hawke?
Male Hawke? A Trusty battle companion.
Fem Hawke? Well..some people said they would accompany her as swords. I find that unimaginative. I'd accompany her as a .... cylindrical object mostly for personal use..at night.
*snicker*
...
...
I overdid it, didn't I?
If you could be a companion to Hawke...

Hmmm.. personally I think I'd be a templar. A pious and dedicated one, if a bit naïve. One that genuinely think that mage circles are supposed to be for the good of the mages and that they ought to be protected form their own curse. Would never lay a hand on a innocent mage and would do his best not to kill any apostate unless absolutely necessary. Would at first try to peacefully bring any apostates in the party to a circle, but failing that he'd tag along and keep an eye on them since it's the second best thing.
An interest in philosophy and poetry, loves to read and especially books containg those two things. Knows many works by the back of his hand, including many works written by mages (even libertarian propagande). Very open to debate yet unlikely to change his views. He would try to influence his fellow companions to believe in the maker, but not force the religion upon them. Believeing it to be superior and that they'll "come to their senses sooner or later".

I'd be a companion's companion, a nug like Schmooples
except that I'd like to be owned by the most popular male (rather than female) LI, trying desperately to seduce him with my fierce yet nuggy charms.
Or, if nugs are off-limits, a female rogue. An insecure almost-adult that likes to refer to the teachings of her mother ("My mom always told me not to accept cookies from strangers, she said that people who give away cookies instead of eating them are bonkers."). Would talk a lot and ask stupid questions. A bit loony.

I'm assuming there will be the equivalent for the Renegade Hawke and Paragon Hawke and still within those there is room to manuever with the situational olive branch and fist icon dialogue wheel system. No one really has a clue as to what personality Hawke might have so far. As in ME, Shepard still had a personality that was pretty decidedly "Shepard" whether you made him/her a paragon or renegade. That is what I meant, so it's hard to know whether I would be Hawke's friend or sneak out in the middle of the night with his/her prized posessions.

An Apostate mage with a very
sarcastic attitude, a bit like John Constantine (the one from the comic book,
not the movie). He is mature, like 35-40, and also very experienced, to the
point that at first he treats Hawke as a mere rookie. Demon summoning and blood
magic are not unknown to him, and he doesn't hesitate to use them if the
situation requires. When you meet him, he is about to horribly dispatch a squad
of templars bothering him, and he joins you because he sees your rise to power
as a way to reduce the Chantry influence in Kirkwall. Later on, as you gain his
trust, he slowly starts to reveal his story: he is the son of two blood mages
from Tevinter; his parents trained him in the way of magic only to use him as a
living weapon. At 20 he broke free, possibly killing his own parents on the way
to freedom. Fleeing from the wrath of the rest of his family, he eventually
made it to Val Royeaux, where he was hired by a ruthless Chantry prelate in
exchange for protection. After having done some jobs for her (mostly removing
political rivals, but it's implied that he was also a pleasure companion of
sort) he was betrayed and left for dead, hence his hate for the Chantry, which
he sees as corrupt and living on the ignorance of common folks. Since then, he
wander Thedas, fighting a one-man-war against the Chantry. His personal quest
would involve a different plot though: a long lost lover, who happens to be
also a powerful blood mage, tries to murder him for having abandonded her
during an incident involving an Antivan village, blood magic and lots of
demons. According to the player's actions you could have a wide arrays of
epilogues, ranging from them been happily reunited, to him killing her in cold
blood. Some quotations:
“Are you talking to me?” (when
selected)
“One less idiot ruining my day”
(when killing someone)
“ I suppose I should be impressed. Or
something like that” (at the apperance of a giant monster)
“ Are these horns compensating for
something else?” (to the qunari guy in the trailer)
“Like I don’t have anything better
to do” (spotting a large group of enemies)
P.S. Oh, and like Constantine, he’s
also pretty heavy on drinking, he just never get drunk, since he’s quite used to
it.

Like Pseudo before me, I'd me a stoic, hardened female qunari - the womanly equivalent to Sten. To follow in qunari tradition, however, she'd probably be a trader, diplomat or administrator, not a full-blown warrior.
Quotes:
"So that was a cookie. Hmm. I expected something sweeter."
"Parshaara!"
"Men can be warriors, workers, crafters. They have no place in administration or management."
"Yes. They're real. And they can cut glass."

Clemens the Maleficar Apostate. A polite, somewhat introverted, chap. He keeps his thoughts and opinions to himself unless asked, even then he doesn't have much of an opinion about anything. Has a job in Kirkwall as a cook in a tavern.
He "dabbled" in blood magic because he thought it could make him more powerful, sadly he quickly found out that he didn't have the stomach for it and instead focused on different types of magic.
My role in the group would be that of pushing, pulling, crushing, and holding the enemy still while Hawke and Co. hack them to tiny bits. Also knows a small bit about healing magic and hexes.

That would be pretty cool to see a disembodied beard running about the battlefield. Maybe that is all the hurlock alpha's greataxe did with it's swipe? The darkspawn shaved off Duncan's beard, and like a jedi, it only made the beard more powerful in death.

As my Lord requests.
My name is Gruff en a Fir.
As you can see, I had elvish parentage. My mother. Though my fathers human High Town posting did me no good. He liked my mother for a few years: he bought her more often than the others after pay day and so I vaguely remember him. I liked the shiny mail he'd drop on the floor.
And then I did what we all did in that house.
Why you see me in camp with Hawke is because of the other talent I learned at the Empty Purse. Dog Boy. Most don't think how often the soldiers came down to Low Town with their dogs. But someone needed to look after them when they were losing their wages at the tables and beds.
I liked that job. And if sometimes the men bringing in their dog decided a walk back to the house was a walk to far... well...men around their animals are some times gentled.
So Hawke comes through Low Town and in the coming north finds himself in need of a Dog Boy. That looked like a way out of where I was, and I took it.
I don't fight, I just stay in camp and look after what animals aren't going out with him and his.
It hurts to see the dogs come back all bloodied or burned from those mage castings. Worse when they don't come back.
And I miss the cats. Can't have them, but I miss 'em.

I want to change mine.
Merrick
Race: Human
Sex: Male
class: Rogue
Specialization: Ranger
Merrick has always been a..... strange person. He left home at the age of fourteen, and has never looked back, and struggles to understand why Hawke is so attached to his family. He speaks of things others have no understanding of, and is nearly impossible to relate to. One moment he'll be jocular, another, taciturn. He chose his profession because he finds people "Strange, diffucult to understand, and generally full of ****." However, his unerring aim with a crossbow, combined with a wicked sense of understanding an enemy's weakness, has made him a valuable part of Hawke's group. (Note: Suffers from bipolar disorder.)
Romance: Heterosexual Only. One part awkward, two parts sheer disbelief that FemHawke would show any interest in him at all.
Gear: Leather Armor (NO SKIRTS!!!!), Crossbow, 2 Daggers
Quotes:
"That helmet isn't going to save you!"
"Keep standing still, jackass!"
"Ten silver says I can hit that guy."
"WHAT WHAT WHAT?????" (When on an upswing.)
"*Sigh* What now?" (When on a downswing.)
"Hmm, if only there was some way I could put a blade on this thing...." (Back at camp, or whatever passes for it.)
"Do I look like a happy person to you????" (When questioned by Hawke.)
"Okay, you obviously took a nasty hit in that last fight. Otherwise, you'd be talking to (Insert name of male lead here)." (When FemHawke tries flirting with him.)
"Start running. It won't do you any good, but hey, it's good excersise, and no one wants to die fat."
"There is a general misconception that rangers are a bunch of tree-hugging Dalish wannabe's. The truth is simply that we rangers forsake the civilized world for nature. That doesn't mean that I can't put a bolt through your head at one hundred yards though."
"It's like one moment I could dance the Remigold and sing the entire Chant of Light, and the next moment the only thing I want is to sleep. I constantly swing between the two extremes, and Maker help anyone in the way."
"I like the quiet most of all. The woods don't tell you to keep it down, or to lighten up. There's just the quiet."
"It's just that when I'm with you I feel.... balanced. Like everything in my head is on a level plane, rather than the usual uneven madness. And I don't want that to stop..... but I also don't want to force myself on you." (Confessing his feelings for FemHawke.)

If one of Hawke's companions would be anything like me, she would be...
1) Very gullible especially if she trusted you
2) Busty & full figured - Unfortunately, a lot of the attention I get is because of my body
#
3) Intelligent but flighty
4) flirty but utterly devoted if she was involved with a man
5) A total goody two shoe who is also afraid to take any risks and does not like surprises.
6) Trying to stop any conflics that occur between companions
She would most certainly be a love interest for male Hawke - especially trailer Hawke. Hubba hubba
*ahem*
She would be a human and either be a rogue or a mage. Name: Korinna.
I'm not creative enough to come up with quotes...

I'll probably be a elven mage (Arcane Warrior/Spirit Healer)
Name: Yasuhana
Appearance: Average height and a bit stocky. Dark brown hair that reaches the shoulders and have brown eyes. Wears a pair of small dangling earrings (they have clasps). Most of the time have a bored look. Wears absolutely no makeup. (Hate makeup)
Background: A elf who lived with her parents and sisters being servants to a kind noble. From the age of 7-10, her father trained her in swordsmanship. At the age of 11, she was found to have magic capabilities and was sent to the Circle. At the Circle, she felt put off and was very lonely. She passed her Harrowing and when the opportunity to venture out of the Circle arrive, she immediately went out. As she was travelling to hopefully be able to go see her family again, she bumped into Hawke.
Personality: At first, she will be uncomfortable talking to people. But if the person persist and kept talking to her, she will slowly get more comfortable. She has low self-esteem at times. She treasures the few friends she managed to make so she's extremely loyal. However she worries that her friends will up and leave her, so she can get very attached. She is willing to listen to other peoples' problems and worries even if she can't find the right words to comfort them, but she would keep her problems to herself unless someone keeps pestering her about them. She usually doesn't have much to say unless the topic interest her. She occasionally have sarcastic and smart-mouth remarks, especially if it's a person she doesn't like. She doesn't like killing, but if it can't be avoided she will fight. She likes to read and she is not really religious. She finds public affection really embarassing and hates the smell of smoke and alcohol.
Quotes:
"Can we get this over with?"
"Ugh, not again...."
"Let's finish this quickly, ok?"
(Big group) "Oh, yay... just what I need...."
(Being selected) "Yea?"
(Killing random people) "W-what are you doing?! Are you insane?!"
"You can talk to me anytime. I'll be here for you."

Thoros Sarel
Race: Elf
Sex: Male
Age:26
class: Mage
Specialization: Spirit Healer/Keeper
Background: Born in Val Royeaux by a city elf father and dalish mother. When found to be dreaming about benevolent fade spirits and causing an all to sudden blooming of the Alienage's Vhenedhal in mid-winter at the age of six, he was spirited away by his family to the forest in search of the local dalish clan to escape the Templars. Under the Keeper and learning the old ways, he became highly proficient in speaking with the goodly spirits of the Fade and the natural world around him. He later abandoned his clan and family in search for both knowledge of his ancestors and the world as a whole, traveling all over Thedas chasing legends and fleeing Templars.
Personality:Very introverted, happy-go-lucky and compassionate, he places the needs of others above his own. To Thoros when it comes to aid and help, his needs are secondary. Loves to read about lost lore and history as he's more likely to found in the magic shop studying than in the local tavern. He can be very overly cautious towards new experiences and a bit condescending, especially to the Chantry and human nobility because of his upbringing and constantly being followed by templars. This has also left him a bit paranoid. He can be with either FemHawke or ManHawke. Very bashful and insecure, and will only be interested in a noble individual.
Due to the ever-present possibility of having to flee the city at a moment's notice, Thoros wears a miss-match of worn dalish robes and hooded cloak to hide in the forest and to cover the tattoos he gained at adulthood. Always carries his mage's stave, a branch of his Alienage's Vhenadhal, his satchel full of feathers, parchment, books, sketches and various junk procured over the years and wears an amulet given by his parents when he left, which is inscribed with the Vir Tanadahl and various hymns of the Elven Gods.

No, for reals now...
If Hawke was a set character and I was to be his companion..I'd probably go for a male templar, 2H specialist. Doesn't talk much, keeps to himself. Gruff, disillusioned by the world after all he's seen, but too damn stubborn to give up, so he keeps trying to do good - partially because deep down he still believes in the best outcome and good in people, and partially out of spite for all the evil ones. Either very agressive or calm and collected, depending on the situation.

Oh I just thought I'd add this too to my character given what we know about the game and the fact that companions share romances and not everything revolves around the main character.
So if my elf was to get involved in a relationship he'd be attracted to an intelligent, strong(as in personality) and witty woman. Though he'd prefer an Elf over a shem he doesn't care about things like that that much. More attracted to the person not the body. Secretly he's a die-hard romantic so the rest of the party would have to put up with the random spouting of poems and oaths of love.
