Can you feel it? I know I can...

The anticipation is grueling! I have a hard time finding things to do in my free time that don't involve staring into space, imagining what this game will be like in my hands. I first heard about this game in a gaming magazine a year or so ago. I was astonished even then! I thought the rpg genre was bottoming out and on it's way to a slow and gruesom death. With so many hybrids out there and way too many copy-cats of old favorites, as well as the games that try to "reinvent the wheel", this genre on both PC and console needs something revitalizing.

When I heard about the whole "spiritual successor" thing, I was thinking that these guys were finally going back to traditional rpg senses and style, but steering clear of copying the original at the same time. I am not a huge fan of "reinventing the wheel" either. So, I have had to stop myself from being jaded on many occasions. Because I have been disappointed so many times with countless titles that promised "epic" or "groundbreaking" gameplay, I was pretty close to developing an almost cynical view on the rpg market in general. I am glad I did not start down that path for very long.

I think this game comes at a perfect time in our gaming lives (for those of us who are, infact rpgers). I think we are all very thirsty people in a desert; hoping that the oasis at the horizon isn't just a mirage. I am pleased to say, "I have no doubt that this game will live up to my expectations." For some reason, I had this feeling that this game was serious business. I have seen the reviews and the gameplay footage. I have read almost every scrap of material on this game. Finally, we rpgers will be treated with the respect we deserve for putting companies like this on the map.

No more hybrids, no more copycats... I can finally play a true BioWare rpg title again; a title with the same style of gameplay and story telling that made me fall in love with this genre in the first place. I will be there in that line at gamestop eagerly awaiting my copy of Dragon Age: Origins. Hope to see you there. Posted Image

It's annoying that waiting over a year felt like nothing but these last few weeks are ever so painful.

I dont have trouble filling in my spare time as I have a couple of nasty exams coming up next week. How fortuitous it is that DA:O will be waiting for me when I'm through with my exams. :)

I was actually more excited about 2 months ago, and the wait back then seemed unbearable. Now I'm relatively calm, it's like the calm before the storm.

I think it's all the stuff they have been releasing(CC, Sacred Ashes trailer, Oghren, etc...) that's keeping me relatively content until the game is released.

Nice original post Draconus. I know exactly how you feel. I enjoyed NWN, NWN2 was a little bit of a letdown because of the quality issues. Plus I expected just a little more quality content. I really thought that I'd seen the last of games like this that I would enjoy. Mass Effect had a lot to recommend it, but it was just too console-ified for me as a PC guy (although I do own a PS3 and love Uncharted 2!). When I heard about this game I kept looking for all the things that they could wreck about it. And all the things they'd have to do to give me that "Baldur's Gate" feeling in 2009. Have they done it? It won't be easy. It looks very very promising though. I can hardly wait to play.

More like 2 weeks for me since our release is only on the 6th. Thankfully I have 2 exam assignments due so that will take up most of my time before the game gets here.

I hear ya!  I don't mind waiting until Friday because I wouldn't get much time on it before then anyhow.  Feel a bit sorry for those who will be waiting for a pre-order copy to come through the post.  Will the mail be cleared by then?  Posted Image

I'm going to hit the shops in person on the 6th!

The worst thing is watching the forums go wild while you're still waiting.  Like you, I may go for self imposed exile

I will get a call from my friends at the local Game stop store telling my collectors copies are in and have my chauffeur drive me to pick it up celebrating at the local Pub on the way home to inform my drinking buds about the new game. I do not have to work so I will play it after I load it while drinking a cold ale from my chair side fridge.

Nice.

Weeks like this I always think back to the release of Civilization IV.  There was a lot of people, including me, jacked up for that release.  Then this guy I know tells me his brother in law or something works for a delivery company that's shipping all the games to the stores.  The b-in-law manages to "liberate" a copy for this guy about a week before the release date.  He was a very happy guy.  We were all seething green with jealousy...

Well since it was announced I always kept track on this game but this last year I was becoming more and more interested in, I think this could be the "spiritual succesor" of Baldur's Gate II but I'll have to see it with my own eyes to come to a conclusion about it, although it really looks like it, I was waiting for an RPG of this kind long time now (last time I was really grateful with Bioware was with Neverwinter Nights), I suppose I'll be getting the same feeling I got when I first played BG II or Fallout, and that's the feeling of gratefulness and joy I get when playing games that are worth of my time.

Great OP!

Sadly, my exams start in two days and don't finish until Nov 19th! I don't want to wait to play DAO, but I may just have to. :(

God damn it Draconus Kahn! I can feel it too! I am in all my states (french expression meaning I'm over excited) !!!
I can hardly wait, I'm like "Dragon Age: Origins... DRAGON AGE ORIGINS!!!!!!" the whole day!

And I totally agree with you! There's a lack of high-quality RPG these days! And I hope BioWare will deliver exactly what we waited for: the RPG that will make us live one hell of a trip in a vast world, with hours and hours of quests, good storyline and a lot of fun!
No, I do not hope it, I BELIEVE in BioWare!

Now, I love Mass Effect. Though it has flaws, it's still a very good and original game.
But I guess that somehow, we RPGers need more! MOOOOORE!!!

Dragon Age: Origins seems promissing, I think this will really be the game which will meet our needs.
As you say, we will be treated the way we deserve to be!

And DAMN IT! I can't wait!!!
6th Nov., I wake up at 8a.m., to be at the store at 9a.m., and grab a copy of DA:O, at around 10a.m., I'll start playing, at 3a.m. of 7th Nov. I'll still be playing. At 3p.m. I'll wake up 'cause of a phone call and my friend will ask me "Dude, why did you ditch class yesterday" "I was playing DA:O man! D! A! :o!"

P.S.: totally out of topic, but you guys seem to have uploaded your characters on the social network. How did ya do it? Whatever I do in the character creator, i.e. log in and click "online profile", nothing happens! Please, unveil your secret!

Took me a while to figure it out too ... but on the page where you view your character detail, there's a button some way above the "online profile" (and it doesn't look like a button unless you expect it to be there) which allows you to upload your character
