i took jan in the group with me and as my main is uisng robe of vecna Im trying to get robe of neutral archmagi for him but fo rthe life of me i cant remeber where i can get it. merchant in trademeet only sells good one

I think Lazarus in Saradush sells it (ToB only). Not sure if you can get it in SoA.

Sadly, you can't get one in Soa, only in ToB

I've managed to pick pocket one fron the Dwarf/Halfling/Gnome/short person right next to the counter at Ribald's. I don't know if that's through a mod though, my guess it is.

If you have the Xan mod installed and you have Xan in your party, you can buy one (5000gp I think). You can then use the robe yourself and say goodbye to Xan. Of course you might as well do his Amn quests before saying goodbye. They also add a little something to the game, experience if nothing else.

You could use Shadowkeeper to put one in your inventory, then subtract the appropriate amount of gold to make it feel like you're not cheating. One presumes your character got one in BG1 anyway.

Whilst you don't have to wait until ToB, you will need ToB installed in order to get this robe in a SoA game.

The hostile tiefling mage in Watcher's Keep (wild magic room towards the end of the maze on the 3rd level) wears a robe of Neutral Archmagi, but doing this quest early is not easy.
