Taking a break from making over-the-top theories,

I was replaying ME1, and as the title of the thread might indicate, I ran into those geth that were worshipping the glowing orb. Knowing they wouldn't attack (I think it was 'holy ground' or something', I shot them dead. However, I started to wonder about that glowing orb.

So...

Why were the geth worshipping it?
What is it?
Was it simply something reaper? If yes, what might it be?
Is the fact that Feros is a prothean ruin, and other floating orby thingos of Prothean make are found something to consider?

Just somethng I can't find the answer to.

I've often wondered this myself. I have no idea what it is, but it has a duplicate in the excavation on Trebin for the UNC: Missing Survey Team quest, where the "alien technology" turned them into "machine cultists". This mission is, presumably, finished before we know the connection between the Reapers and the husks, but the technology is something Reaper and the "machine cultists" are just husks. Maybe the geth on Feros were going to huskify Thorian Creepers? Now there's a disturbing thought.

Probably worshiping the reapers in some way. And it would make sense for the indoctrination device on Trebin to be there, since during the cycles (presumably this was in the last one) they try to indoctrinate the prisoners so they can expose other survivors

They don't attack you? Huh... I didn't know that. I just shot them dead without a second thought.

Anyways, that scene was just a peak into Geth culture. You know, showing that they actually have culture and aren't just a bunch of robots, helping to establish them as an actual sentient race. Kind of like highlighting the point for those players who otherwise ignore the lore.

But yeah, as to the actual cultural significance of the glowing thing, altar, forms of worship, I have no idea.

Those geth won't attack you as long as you don't alert them to your presence. If you fire a shot (even if you don't actually hit them), they go hostile. If you walk up to them so they see you they'll attack you. I think it's safe to say that the only reason they don't attack is because they didn't know you were there.

I think the device the geth were worshipping in question was either a piece of Reaper technology, or something the geth built to resemble the Reapers (note the 'tentacle'-like configuration). You see similar devices on some worlds where you find Husks, so it's probably more the former.
