I'm a level 10 human tank and have had a point in specializations since level 7 -- when and how do I get to use it?  I know Alistair can teach me to be a templar, but he says he won't do it (approval level not high enough?), and what if I want to be a champion?  Who can teach me that and when?  Thanks.

You can get a Templar/Ranger book from the Dwarf merchant in your camp for 15g. You can be trained for Templar/Bard/Berserker/Assasin/Shapeshifter and Spirit Healer from your companions if you have the right ones and the approval to unlock it. You can get Arcane Warrior in the werewolf dungeon by doing a simple side quest. You can get Duelist in Denerim in the Brothel i think it was.

You can avoid having to play the game with her if you manage to talk her into knocking boots with you instead.  Leliana and Zevran optional.

Is learning from Kolgrim the only option to get Reaver? If so, how do you side with him? When I arrived it was just a quick exchange of words after which I killed him.

Still using his pritty axe.

For Kolgrim you need to get to the point where he asks you to pour a vial of blood over the ashes, and you actually need to do that to get him to teach you.

However, you can save before talking to him and then do the quest for him to unlock the specialisation, and the go back to the save file. Specialisations remain unlocked forever. This also means you don't actually have to spend the money on the books, you can just save before buying one and then reload after unlocking the specialisation.
