So, having finally taken a mage through Origins and Awakening, I've been wondering about other ways to use one. Mage was a Spirit Healer/Blood Mage/Battlemage with 110+ Magic and close to a 1000 mana with gear and no sustainables, and only four of those (Arcane Shield/Telekinetic Weapons/Spell Wisp/Elemntal Mastery) didn't make a major dent in her mana. If it wasn't for Nate's 109% critical chance on his auto attack arrows, I'm sure my mage would've dominated party damage like the origins game.
Looked into the Keeper line but since in was a self-rooting 'aura' effect and I was a predominatly ranged caster, I went with Battlemage for the tier 2-4 spells. Had Valanna as a full Keeper but with her running tactics more then my direct control, I found Keeper just wasn't working no matter the tactics I set.
Keeper spells look pretty potant from what I've seen/read in game. (Ignoring that almost all of Awakening makes you and your party pretty d**n OP) Anyone have some personal experience using it? Thinking Acane Warrior/Battlemage/Keeper combo, the spells and the Fade Shield line look like they might be enough to off set most of the heavy mana drain. A few hexes and fireballs to keep attention on the mage and keep them coming into/in the Keeper's field should let the mage stay upright without much worry for gear at all.
Might make an Orlesian Warden to test without running through another Orgins mage game so soon.
