What? You didn't enjoy the way they did that in World of Warcraft?Ortaya Alevli wrote...

No idea what WoW looks like. Did they do that there? Wow. Amazing especially when you remember Diablo II.EmperorSahlertz wrote...

Most of the 2H weapon swings are similar to the ways a Glaive or Nagamaki can be used. So the animations wouldn't need to be that drastically different.tmp7704 wrote...
It's probably not a matter of being realistic, but as you say yourself a polearm is quite different weapon type from a sword, so even if they wanted things to look just "cool" it'd still require separate set of animations simply because of how different it is when it comes to application in combat.slumlord722 wrote...
I see the points about why it isn't featured, but I have to agree that seeing something like a polearm in-game would be more unique than the whole completely overdone katana thing.
As for realistically depicting combat with a polearm...I think the game strives for making combat look cool as opposed to making it look real (dual-wielding swords moves, for example).

Sure, assassins are everywhere (i.e. the Crows) but the Japanese don't live in Thedas.

If they start putting Japanese weapons in Dragon Age where everyone speaks in a British accent my head will explode in quite a messy fashion. I just think if it's based around that time, and in an area similar to Europe it should have European weapons.
This, especially considering the game doesn't have halbards or spears, which were very culture-appropriate weapons durring this time period.

Shinken is the Japanese word meaning "real sword". It encompases both of those weapons. It's used to charactarize a weapon used for actual fighting and cutting using the traditional methods of forging.
- All nihonto are shinken.
- Some shinken are nihonto.
- Some nihonto are iaito.
- Some shinken are iaito.
- Most iaito are mogito.
- No mogito are nihonto.
- Some mogito are shinken*
- No mogito are shinken**

It's redicolous to see stabbing with a hammer, or never using a half-swording grip on a two-hander.
How many animations are we talking about per weapon anyway? Or are motion-capture people paid per motion, and not per hour?

I'm actually rather dissapointed that swords and axes/maces (both 1 and especially two-handed) share the same animations.

I think this game will be better (or worse, depending on your way of thinking) in that area.

I understand that weapons like Whips and Flails would be hard to do in the game correctly.
But I still don't see why polearms couldn't be added to the game.
For the exact same reason.
Difficult in general or for DA's graphics engine?
Come on... The graphic engine wasn't THAT bad. xP
