Awakenings out for months, and this bug still exists...

Yes, I apparently should have saved manually (as opposed to quick-save) some 10-15 minutes before the game randomly decided to screw me over. My fault. I get it.
But really? Seven months and they haven't fixed this? It seems like "reproducable, irreversible error destroys main character's gear 20 hours into game" would be something of a priority fix.
Anyways, severely disappointed. Lesson learned, of course, but I'm not sure it was the one Bioware wanted me to learn.

Hehe, that's the spirit!
I've been really lucky that in four runs of Awakening I have never encountered this bug.

Are you referring to the Silverite mines bug? That happened to me last week and was really annoying. Luckily there is a fix on DA Nexus, but it's sad that the bug hasn't been officially patched yet. Awakening, depsite being much, much shorter than Origins, is pretty buggy, actually more so than Origins I feel.

IIRC, (on PC at least) wasn't this in part caused by the PC using equipment that was character-restricted? If this is so, then the workaround is simpler: un-equip all such items before entering the mines.
I did this and even with the offending items in inventory the bug still occurred.

Yes, that seems to be why the bug happens, and yes, that's a very simple fix.
But why should I have to remove all the gear that I'm allowed to use just because the game can't read things correctly?
Easy fix or not, it's a pretty significant bug, and shouldn't have passed quality control, and should have been fixed ASAP.
But, hey, did you know DA2 has a voiced PC???? Yea, cool, right? Coming soon!!!

It is REALLY lame that Bioware hasn't fixed this or at least done something to make all new users aware of it. (I realize giving a heads up would entail some spoilage, but pissed off customers is not a good trade-off, imho.)
IIRC, in the patch-to-end-all patches, 1.04, notes Bioware acknowledges this specific bug. They also basically say they CAN'T fix it for technical reasons. B.S., I say. But, perhaps they can't...in which case some sort of notice is called for.
I do like Dark Lilith's reaction though. Way to role-play! I have complained that there is no way to make Awakening as challenging as Origins. Well, losing one's uber gear would help I guess...

Didn't they say there wasn't room in the patch to fix it, not that they couldn't?Gloatie wrote...

Truth be told, 1.04 was a terrible patch. It didn't fix things it said it would - Sigrun's quest still doesn't trigger if you do things in the "wrong" order, for example. The game really needs a 1.05 and a 1.06.

The NPC doesn't appear if you have her trust and after you've completed the quest. It is a bug because the NPC is supposed to appear to trigger the rest of the quest line. No NPC, no continuation.
Correct. Why would Sigrun wish to confide in a Warden that is already known to be hard on criminality? While there may be plausible RP explanations, there are also plausible reasons for the current No-Show to occur.

According to DA Wiki, her quest sometimes doesn't trigger even if you haven't done Law & Order, so I would wager we're talking bugs rather than something caused by the story.

I'm sorry, they are too busy creating DLC and DAO2 for your money All these companies are nowadays are profit mongers. Quality has taken a backseat. Oh well, they've already lost me as a customer.
Not every company is like that fortunately. Look at what CD Projekt did for those who bought the Witcher. Fixed every bug and then offered those fixes as a new product for free.
I am hoping this old/new approach for game developers is one that catches hold.
Given the fact there were bugs never addressed for Origins and Awakenings as well as less than satisfactory DLCs and a very quick abandoning of the PCs we've all created for DA 2 EA may be looking at less than stellar numbers from here on out for the DA franchise. It is unfortunate as DA holds a lot of promise if the game and the players who purchase it are treated properly.

Uh, they didn't fix "every bug". That's impossible. They tuned the engine, redid a number of the voices and tweaked the UI. It was an extra level of polish (Pun not intended) that wasn't necessary, but well appreciated. A number of other studios do similar things (Larian for Divinity 2, Rockstar for GTA IV) but they often don't get recognised for it.cosgamer wrote...

How Dragon Age 2 should be:cosgamer wrote...

- More origins
- New setting
- Similar, but improved, art style
- Less blood
- More Dwarves.
- Greater level of polish, both graphically and in terms of performance.

K, I shouldn't have said every bug (was speaking from my own experience after the Witcher Enhanced Edition -- had some problems with the original Witcher and none after installing EE).
I am as yet very undecided whether I will be buying DA 2. The short development time they've allotted reeks of future bugs, sloppy handling of storylines and a game that may be lacking in depth. We'll have to see.

I will definitely not buy DA2. After Awakening (which has been out since March) BW released _ONE_ patch to adress some, but not many of the remaining issues. Furthermore BW ignores all our queries about the status of patch 1.05 and whether there will be a patch 1.05 or not. I'm not pleased with their DAO and DAA politics in the slightest and guess that all their remaining forces try to work on DA2, which already has a very tight timeframe.

Major reasons why I'm not getting it, either.
