How do you enable the developer console to function?
I have come across a bug when fighting the Sloth demon, where my party does NOT spawn, and the demon is quite a pain in the ass to kill solo (have spent about 2 hours watching my dwarven noble die over and over and over and over again)
I just want to be able to use the console so I can CHEAT past this bug and get back to enjoying the game again.
Thanks!
How do you enable developer console?

make a new shortcut directly to the dao executable:
"C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\daorigins.exe" -enabledeveloperconsole
alter the execute path to your install directory.
you cannot see the console output, but instead get raw font output. (looks like garbled stuff- you'll see) but it works. just remember what you typed and try not to make a typo

I am still unclear, so add -enabledeveloperconsole to the name of the program or the shortcut? Because if i try to add this in the shortcut properties Vista will not let me hit Apply or OK since the path does not exist.

not the name of the shortcut iself, but the file it's running. I dont have Vista myself but in xp it's called "target"

Ahh, ok so i need to go to the shortcut properties and now add a space after .exe" so it does not consider it part of the name.

and dont copy paste what cmykflutterby wrote. cause you probably installed it somewhere else.
add -enabledeveloperconsole to whatever your install path is

Its not a bug.
You have to use each power from the fade to kill the sloth demon.

Not sure if it's important, but my target on the shortcut I created says nothing about "bin_ship", instead it's ""C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dragon Age\\DAOriginsLauncher.exe". This probably has to do with the fact I installed in a custom directory?
I say this for after following those instructions I have not been able to run any scripts after hitting ~. Instead all the keys I type respond to their normal ingame functions, and once I press "enter" the script hasn't run
Am I missing something here?

I am having the same problem as Ydnardo, when I push the key i chose as the key to open the console, and then begin to type all the keys still perform their normal functions.
I created a 2nd shortcut, added to the target, went to keybindings and changed the key to open the console, saved it, then launched the game from the new shortcut and press my console key and it does not work. Any help at all would be great thanks!

Is there anyone that would know why this is not working for me? As always thanks in advance for any help or advice.

OK, I finally have this figured out.
Go to Computer ►C:drive ► Program Files► Dragon Age ►bin_shp►right click on daorigins and create a shortcut to your desk top.
Right click on the new shortcut and select properties.
Under the shortcut tab there is a box entitled "Target" and it has a file name in it that looks like...
"C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Dragon Age\\\\bin_ship\\\\daorigins.exe"
You want to add -enabledeveloperconsole to the end of it so it looks like this...
"C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Dragon Age\\\\bin_ship\\\\daorigins.exe" -enabledeveloperconsole
(Make sure you include the space after the end quotation mark. I have used bold here only to let the file names stand out).
Click apply and close it. Double click the new short cut to run the game and load a save. press the ~ key, nothing comes up on your screen. On my PC, once I started typing an onscreen keyboard appeared at the top of my screen. I can not see what I am typing, but it does work for me. You have to hit the ~ key everytime you want to run a new script because each time you hit "enter" it runs your command and exits the console.
I hope this helps.

That would be a keybinding issue. By default it is assigned to the "Grave" key (`). Magnus of the Moon's instructions are right on the money but you will have to also edit one other file to get the "Tiled" (~) key set to open the console.
You can leave it as default but this will use the "Grave" key to open the console. Some people have reported issues using the tiled key but it works fine for me after editing the keybindings file.
to edit the keybindings file .........
Open the file "►BioWare►Dragon Age►Settings►KeyBindings.ini" in your My Documents folder.
Look for a line that says "OpenConsole_0" and change the value after the equals sign (=) that says "Keyboard::Button_Grave" to "Keyboard::Button_Tilde".
save the document.
now you should be able to use the ~ key to access the console during gameplay.
