I had some time to mess around with the Cain last night on the last room of tali's loyalty mission.

results:

firing straight at the glass barrier (as soon as you enter the room) will kill all the enemies. you'll be fine.

firing around the corner at them (what seems to be a straight shot) will kill you.

firing at the ceiling will kill the enemies.



i don't know waht to make of this, but i'd like some developer feedback on what exactly is going on.

It's probably something similar to watching Grunt take a Cain Shot in the side and walk away like nothing happened. There's a video on YouTube with that, and the mushroom cloud doesn't even trigger. Instead, Grunt staggers like someone elbowed him, then runs off to where he was waypointed at. It should have killed him and Shepard (being at the center of a nuclear blast and all), but neither of them takes the slightest damage.

i've never had my teammates die to the Cain's effects, and i've fired it point-blank at Zaeed. guy doesn't even blink.
