I agree EB can be a bit of a rip off. But at least you know 100% guarantee that you'll get your pre-order bonus.

Unlike my mates and JB when they pre-order dragon age from there.

I wouldn't say 100%, at all. You must have a very reliable EB near you. Both of the ones in my area have screwed me out of my pre-order codes time and time again. I pre-ordered Fallout months ago and picked up my copies the day it came out. When can I get my pre-order codes? "Maybe next week, or the week after"...

More on topic, there has never been a better time to buy American for us Aussies. =/ I can't believe how terribly they are gouging us with this Signature Edition.

That's just the way it is.  And that's just the way it's going to be...  ;(

The little American in me says "Buy it now, buy it now!" but the Aussie says "Don't buy it now, go buy a case of Toohey's instead!"

www.ozgameshop.com are a UK based games shop that ship to Australia for free. They have signature edition for PS3 and 360 for $61.99 and PC for $44.99. Of course the downside is that because it comes from the UK it will take a week or two to get here. If you can wait then its perfect, if not then feel free to be ripped off by local retailers :)

I haven't bought a game from an Aus retailer for years because of places like this that ship to Australia.

I can guarantee everyone right now that I'll be purchasing from OZGameShop.

I'm just afraid of pre-ordering right now because I keep thinking they'll release another special pre-order thingy after I make mine...

Yeah this is the problem. At least when you buy a physical copy you can resell it on ebay (or somewhere else) and cover some of the cost of the new Super Duper Ultimate Collector's Edition that will be released.

Agreed.  If I can just get some kind of guarantee that there won't be anymore released content for some other special edition...  I'll go out and preorder it right now, lol.

I usually buy the vanilla game with no DLC (unless it is included for free) and then get the GOTY edition which has all the DLC on that. The reason for this is because I refuse to use "points" instead of real money to buy DLC. I am happy to pay real money for DLC... I am not happy to pay real money for points.

Plus, by the time the GOTY edition is out, the original gameplay is not still fresh in your mind and it is like experiencing the game all over again

EDIT:

Just like that. I didn't know the Ultimate edition was out soon so time to sell original copy of DAO and get that and play the DLC that I wouldn't buy ;)

We get screwed on prices all the time. It's entirely the retailers fault, they charge more because we pay.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and ask: Is that really the retailers fault?  As you said, people pay, so wouldn't the price come down if it was clear that people weren't going to pay?

Well technically it isn't solely the retailers fault. The publisher's set the regional pricing or some moronic scale and the retailers (unfortunately for them) have to add their own profit margin on top. Have a look at the difference in price between steam games in the US and steam games in AUS? Even with the AUD nearly at parity, us aussie's still pay more.

Check out this site for some examples www.steamprices.com/au/topripoffs

I'd enjoy an explanation for that, actually.  I doubt there is one.

I found this article which talks about physical copies of games in store. I can understand that when you take into account currency exchange and freight costs etc but why does that still apply to digital downloading? I suggest greed with the "because we can" mentality.

Maybe they have a quota to reach per region. There are more people in US and UK so to meet their quota they don't need to charge as much. However, in AUS there are less people so prices need to be higher.

So now I just have to wait and be patient for my god damn staff =P

Hey that's pretty nice of them. I still haven't played ME1 or ME2, keep waiting for them to go on sale on Steam.

I did go ahead and order through Ozgameshop recently. With all the retailers constantly changing their prices on the SE, I figured it was best to just lock in a good deal sooner rather than later.

I don't know you, we're never likely to meet and I don't even know if you're the correct gender...but I love you.

Sensible game prices at last - thank you Posted Image

This may be enough to convince me to preorder.

Yes I know what you mean. I checked at my local JB and they were selling both editions separately $90 for standard, and $115 for SE, and I thought I'd check out another and they were selling both for $100 (Consistency FTW!), EB had SE for $80 so I thought meh I'll get it ASAP and as I said I ended up getting a free copy of Mass Effect which was a nice surprise ^_^

But I do agree the deals at OzGameShop are really good. But I just prefer to work with local retailers so I can argue with them more easily if they do something wrong :P

If I ever bought locally, I'd go EB.  But, I've never received any freebies from them.  T_T;

My husband has used OzGameshop before to buy Total War I think or some other RTS games and they were pretty efficient. I'm a little annoyed at not being able to play on release day but to save $34.. yeah, I'll get over it. The shipping was fair, if I recall, and it didn't take long when we last ordered from them so I feel pretty confident.

Be quick, they seemed to have raised the price of the game by $2 dollars at OzGameShop.

New Zealanders get shafted with game prices, too. EB Games is our ONLY store, and as much as they over-charge, it costs EVEN MORE to ship a copy from overseas. *raaaeeeggg*

Karsciyin I would try buying overseas, you might score it a lot cheaper :)
