I am right in that in the USA a game or film rated M is not the same as the UK cert18?

ESRB have a rating above M, it's AO for adults only.  I assume that's their equivalent to our 18.

I think I can clear this up.
R rated movies are allowed a great deal of liberties due to their rating.
M games on the other hand are still hamstrung by sycophantic morons like Jack Thompson who say that "Games train kids to be killers" And since gaming is a realitively young genre of entertainment it gets much more scrutiny than film or literature.

The idiots in America make a big deal about violence and such.
Most of us (silent majority and all that) would prefer to live and let live.

Thought so, I'm sure I read somewhere that stores like Mallwart wont sell AO games or films.

Americans do not use the same rating system for movies and film.
Movies are rated from G to N-17  or possibly XXX
Games are rated from E to AO.

It's weird that the sex in ME1 caused more controversy than in 2; I thought ME1's was more tasteful. There's a whole lot of impractical through clothes dry humping as the camera zooms out in ME2 that is just unsettling...

That's because the idiotic prudes in the News Media (mostly from FOX but a few others thrown in for flavor) decided that it was a "sex simulator" and that it was a "danger to the children" Because many in America consider videogames to be only for children and the thought that any game gets more complex than pong is anethma to them.

I think the people on the board here care more about FOX news then they do about these games. After all they have politics to play with now. Now if they add Obama in the 3 rd one as lead reaper maybe they will care but otherwise I do not see them careing unless it is a really slow news day.

I still think Rockstar's hot coffee thing was a bigger deal and they used the dateing thing in there last GTA thing that was part of it. I pefer the romance in ME1 and it felt more natrual. I just never cared about in one in the second one. If anything I now dislike Garrus now before I was indifferent.

Oh I voted today and I like ham :P

This topic is better suited for the Off-Topic Forums as it's discussing the rating system in general.
