Hey guys!

I thought I would start a new project and learn to use oil paints in the process. That and the end product being some awesome mass effect characters on my wall.

I probably wont be able to get things done too quick, I work as a full time concept artist so most my time goes into that, this is mainly to unwind after work and hone my skills. It would be great to hear what you guys think!

So to start off we have Wrex, maybe one of my fav characters from the game, his no nonsense attitude is where its at. Throw in some funny and a big ass scar from his previous battles and you have this walking behometh. He
got the quads!

I will be custum making some frames for these also, with some glow in the dark wizardry in some key areas. Yes, the frame will mimic the individual characters armour so may include lit up areas if the armour frame requires it. Still working out how I am going to do this but the end product should be sweet! Cant wait! Up next....Liara!

(My first try with oil paints) , on a 15x12Inch Canvas. Took a few nights on and off.

Wrex is incredible! It looks like he's coming out of the canvas in 3D. Oils are really difficult to use that well, I know, I've tried. Very impressive.

Those are really incredible. Getting Liara's freckles right is particularly impressive. Wrex's scars got me thinking again though... what caused the perfectly parallel scars on the right side of his face? Was he attacked by a giant fork?

Nice work. I'd really like to see how you handle more human faces and still make them look like their in-game selves, since it's the subtleties that really matter there.

fongiel24 : haha! I figured he got them from that big fight with his dad? or did i just make that up? nah your right, a food fight is far more satisfying!  Should have done a fork in the background looming over him, staring down at him with all its dominant force.

Elevern : Thanks! Exactly what I have been thinking about too, I mean its one thing to paint an alien like wrex and get away with some slight proportions being a little off, and a whole different story with a human face and tone. It should be a challenge, so will begin one after garrus.

Katamariguy : Hey thanks! My office job is concept artist at a games company here in the Uk. Working for Bioware would be a dream come true for me, though I have only been in the industry proffesionally for two years I think I may need a little more time to get near the standerd they might expect, but yes they are my number one games company to work for.

Ok here is a work in progress, literally spent about 40mins just blocking in the basic shapes for garrus, not extremely fussed with the colours yet as they will change as I progress. I will be posting these work in progresses as I go if anyones interested, but I will keep the first post in the first page as the final paintings so its easier to find them all.
