Depends. Blackmarsh would've lost a lot of its atmosphere if visited at daytime.
True, but DA2 is getting a graphical overhaul. I live in Louisiana. Trust me, there is no time a swamp isn't creepy.

Now that you put it that way, perhaps you have a point. If BioWare can still retain the atmosphere after implementing a day/night cycle, by all means.Fortlowe wrote...

Day/night cycle screws up pacing? That's a first. If anything, it helps set the pace in situations where it is needed.
Given DA's design directions though, day/night cycle is not that high a priority I guess (I remember going through this same discussion for DA:O, lol)

Little weather effects can make a big difference- take ME2- on Jack's loyalty mission when its raining and you can see the rain on your armor? Very cool.

No. i would not like day/night, weather cycle, because it does not fit this game. It fits in games like Fallout New Vegas (which i am playing right now, i love it), but not Dragon Age.

Why not? I mean I don't have Fallout, but an ambient weather effect and day and night cycle worked beautifully in Red Dead Redemption. I think I understand that, from a development standpoint, including weather effects and a day and night cycle is more than a notion. But, that's the only aurgument I can think of against including those features.

Yeah I thought about making a thread on this as well however Fortlowe saved us both the trouble.
I would love to see a day night and weather cycle in DA2 as for me it makes the world feel that much more alive, certain events and NPCs show up at different times in the day and more sinister creatures happen to come out at night and whatnot.
I would also love to see certain stat buffs and debuffs depending on the environment your character is traveling through, the weather and what your character happens to be wearing in relation to the weather. Like a swamp might slow your character down a bit, the rain might give a minor debuff to moral and if your character happens to be traveling in the snow he might freeze to death unless he is wearing warm furs and heavier clothing, however that could be just me and I am not sure how everyone else feels about such an idea.

Day/night, no. It screws up pacing.
What pacing?

The atmosphere should be appropriate to the scene. DAII is not an open world game so it doesn't make sense to have a day/night and weather cycle.
What atmosphere? There are only a few key scenes where the weather or day and night play a role in setting the tone of the scene, however you are probably right, Bioware is no longer in the buisness of making immersive RPGs and now seems to focus on interactive movies.

Atmosphere is precisely why I bring it up. Immersion is key to creating atmosphere. And as long as it is an ambient effect, I don't see how a day/night and weather cycle could take away from the atmosphere. It doesn't require an open world for it to function. Fable II (flinches
Again, I can only assume the lack of a day/night and weather cycle would be due to a technical limitation and not a design choice.

Fable II (flinches) isn't open world and it has a day/night and weather cycle. Fable II simulates (flinches again
) an open world enviornment like GTA or RDR, quite well too, but it's just not.

More than one version of a area would be nice (ie, lowtown in daylight and in stormy night) but that seems like a lot of work for little reward.
