Yea "For Maric" would have been nice, he is the symbol of Ferelden's fight for independence (alongside Loghain). But "for the Grey Wardens"? That made me roll my eyes. Then of course they came up with the weirdest decision to give the Arling of Amaranthine (the arling I deem very important for my vision) to the Wardens? I was like "WTF are you doing??". Give it to the Couslands, God dammit!

In the HN US, they do. Fergus gives it to the Wardens. For all we know, that happens every time but it's only mentioned in the HN US.

Oh God. And here I was thinking that I could leave with Morrigan without being too worried as Fergus can handle it. Ugh :pinched:

I take it you guys have never done the HN US?

Alistair: Fergus Cousland, please step forward. We were very pleased to discover you alive. Your brother thought you had died at Ostagar.

Fergus: I only wish I had recovered from my wounds sooner.

Alistair: Fergus, the Highever lands are restored to you... in addition to the Amaranthine arling that was Arl Howe's.

Fergus: Your Majesty... I would like to give Amaranthine to the Grey Wardens. (Hesitant but determined)

Alistair: I think that would be fitting. Let all know that the arling of Amaranthine, once the land of Arl Howe, is now granted to the Grey Wardens.

All I can say is...he was probably held captive by the Chasind for most of the Blight and is allowing his grief over the massacre to influence his decisions?

I don't usually pay attention to Fergus (was too busy raging over the fact that he was alive).

...Though...what does he do if you're alive?

If you're alive, this dialogue never comes up so I'm assuming that if Alistair/Anora try to give it to him it's in private and then he suggests giving it to the Wardens. As to why...who even knows?

Too true.

Sigh, of all places, they had to pick Amaranthine, one of the wealthiest Arlings.

Allowing Anora such arbitrary tyranny puts anyone who might find themselves on her bad side at risk.  To permit her the unprovoked murder of the last of the Theirin bloodline is to give her the same absolute power enjoyed by the Empress of Orlais.

If anyone had a problem with it, the Landsmeet would have spoken against it. They didn't, thus they gave their implicit consent. So it's not arbitrary tyranny.

It's a legal and legitimate execution that was unopposed in front of the Landsmeet. Not a murder.

Nobody objects when you execute Loghain, either.

And when have I said otherwise? When did I claim that people are *murdering* Loghain? His execution is perfectly legal. His conscription is also perfectly legal.

Don't believe you've done so, KoP, but many people do term it "murder".

I've never believed it was, and I thought you're post there was a good explanation of why it isn't.

I haven't seen anyone declare Anora regent or put a crown on her head. So obviously it's not legitimate and therefore murder.

By then she is the (uncrowned) queen. So no, not a murder. Being uncrowned does not invalidate her queenship.

/peeks in... I actually like Anora giving the speech at the gates (Alistair too, though -- both inspire me). "For the Gray Wardens" is kind of WTF, but the speech is all about how awesome your warden is so yeh, I guess it's ok.

She's going to be queen anyway, so I don't think there would be consequences even it was technically murder.

But yes, I believe that the simple announcement from the Warden doesn't make her a fully legitimized queen.

The Landsmeet never impressed me, the game mechanics are too obvious to keep up immersion for me. The Warden is granted way too much power, people don't seem to have an opinion on anything that's happening, decapitate Loghain aginst the rules of the duel, be framed as a traitor, allow Anora to kill the last of the Theirin line, it doesn't matter.

Edit: Note to myself, never try to post something at half past 3 am.

I agree with both of you here. The first time I spared Loghain and she immediately ordered Alistair's execution....I went...."Wait, WHAT?".

Eh, it's all water under the bridge at this point. All I know is that Loghain fights like a possessed hyena on speed, and that he and Dog are happy as pigs in poo to be tearing through the Deep Roads together, clearing out any hostile elements I left behind while doing the Orzammar treaty quest. I swear they have a race to see who can get to wherever the enemy's been spotted, kill as many as possible, and get back to me the fastest. Half the time my Mage is left hanging with her staff in the air like :wizard:

"Never fear, faithful companions! I see the enemy horde but I will cast Sleep on them, and then Waking Nightmare, and then I will cast Tempest in their area so we can all stand comfortably at a distance and watch them die like bugs in a microwave, and then--

You're back already? But I haven't even cast Tempest yet!

What do you mean, you killed them all?

No, that's great, wow, no, I appreciate it. You, too, that was a great job. Good boy. Yes, you may have a piece of cheese.

. . .um. . .

Who wants to see me turn into a bear? :wizard:"

I WANNA SEE YOU TURN INTO A BEAR! Lol, just wanted to say this cheered me up! Lol! I'm loving playing as a mage, so fun! :wizard:

Also Anora immediatly ordering Alistair killed pissed me off and was one of the major reasons I started disliking her. I made her Queen on my first play through since I wanted to do what Alistair wanted, and she goes and does that and I was all, HELL NO, and I reloaded and made Alistair King, he got over hating it quick but I hadn't hardened him so he ended up being a loser King sadly. Blegh, my HN is not my canon thank God. Hardened Alistair is a decent King though in my opinion.

Gosh breaking up my friendship with Alistair was horrible though. :crying: He was my BFF *sniffle* I only wonder if Riordan had told him the reason for why he wanted Loghain spared if he'd have seen reason. I hope he would but after the talk in Denerim before he leaves makes me think maybe not. He was angry. At least he seemed just as torn up about the friendship ending as my character was.

Also, I'm having fun with Loghain as well, very interesting. Epic good fighter! I've been itching to get even more insight into his character and this play through is proving very interesting!!! I didn't realize you could do the landsmeet so early on in the game. I'm tempted to restart a playthrough that way since I'm almost done with this playthrough and I feel like I'm being rushed into getting to know him. It makes listening to Anora's speeches almost worth it, we'll see.

Looking forward to having him redeem himself by killing the arch demon too, I think that's a fitting end for a hero like Loghain. Epic bonus being no need for the old God baby! Yay for no dark rituals!!!

And LOL I so didn't want this to turn into an Anora vs. Alistair thread, I guess that's what I get for asking a question relating to the two. :pinched:

Seeing Alistair executed or reduced to nothing more than an alcoholic is a terrible end to the bloodline that literally made Ferelden a nation. None of my wardens so far have been able to stomach the ide and, thus, they have avoided situations where those twin possibilities arise.

On the other hand, you can say the same thing about the "hero of River Dane." I can't stomach the idea of killing him at Landsmeet, either. It's all a matter of personal perspective and preference. Fortunately you can keep him alive and make Alistair king (by marriage to Anora) which allows the possibility of a more fitting end for both, but you still have to sacrifice Alistair's friendship.

There's no outcome that works out perfectly for everyone.

Wulfram - yes it is, which is why Howe can so easily lay claim to Highever with the Couslands dead. He'd be the logical choice to succeed them (as he well knows). But yes, Amaranthine isn't really the king/queen's to offer to the wardens, unless Fergus has been consulted first.

The "Hero of River Dane" has a hand in his own downfall. Alistair is simply an angry, innocent young man.

Which is why I'd be more inclined to lop off Eamon's head. But, truth be told, Anora wouldn't have called for his execution had he not had his big Landsmeet "I'll take the crown!" hissy fit. By allowing his feelings to get the better of him, he's set himself up as a rival and threat. As a rule, I prefer that they marry, but in the games where they don't I feel no guilt about exiling him. He has the chance to start anew somewhere, without the burden of his blood dogging him. If he chooses to use that to drink himself into oblivion, that's his own problem.
