But I can see why Grey Warden Carver is angrier; he chose that life and he found out that it sucks.

Making Carver a Templar made me sad. He's so much angrier than GW Carver.
I could never make Carver a templar after seeing him as a Grey Warden. He's such a little badass as a Warden.

Anyway, I just replayed the scene in question where he meets up with Hawke in Lowtown during the endgame. From his dialogue, it seems he was expecting to sweep in and rescue Hawke from the Templars (aww!) so I think that's where the shock came in at Hawke having sided with them.

Carver really came into his own as a Grey Warden, that's for sure. I love that outcome for him, as rough as it is to be a warden.

For once, he got to rescue her... and well....

Oh, DO WANT. So badly. Not even a single in-game banter in which Carver threatens to break someone's face for staring at his sister's bum.
And we were SOOOO looking forward to it.

It does add to the story. However, Carver has much less character development as a Templar.
And the end is too uncertain for me. True, you get some sort of closure if you take Meredith's side but if you help the mages you only "make peace" with Carver in the very bitter end and after that you don't have time to talk to him again or anything.

Because he didn't learn anything. His life still revolves around protecting mages/censuring them.
You know... what he's done his entire life with Bethany and Hawke.

I agree, Sia. And it doesn't help that the few times Hawke does see him, there's no option to actually talk with him. Carver snarks at Hawke, Hawke snarks back, cue to Carver leaving with Meredith plus her Templar entourage.
Well, my Hawke and Carver continue that tradition to the bitter end regardless. No nice words between them until the climax of Act 3 (although then, the nice words are EPIC and make me want to cry just thinking about them). Picking a fight in the middle of the Deep Roads while Nathaniel goes "WTF?!" is one of my favorite things to do.
Carver, y u so awsum?

DA2 Family of Magi by ~pen-gwynThey watched as the older sibling followed their father to practice spells away from the house for weeks at a time. And when Bethany was old enough, Carver could only watch alone as they walked a path he could no longer follow.

Bhawww...... I haven't done awakening *sigh* I might just have to live with the fact that my Hawkes won't get to see that. *grumble* Maybe when I've done the next Hawke I'll do one run through Awakening just to see what't different in DA2 afterwards.
Ohh.. have to ad that the comic above is really how I picture it. Carver feeling left out because dad teaches his sisters and he's the only warrior. Poor Carver, it can't be easy feeling left out. You know that they need their lessons so you can't complain over that. But you can still feel left out.

You could always make it easy for yourself and use the pre-made "The Martyr" import option.

It really is no wonder he turned out a bit resentful to Hawke and magic in general. I can totally empathize. I'm very confused by people that dislike Carver, just makes no sense.

That's my Carver too! The weird thing with the family faces depending on Hawke's preset is that even though it eliminates awkward family situations like in DA:O, I get a bit weirded out when I see Carvers and Beths and Leandras that are different from the ones I played as.

YAY! Hi, Miri.
Carver is adorable. Would have been wonderful to see him interact with the LIs when they became LIs. Can you just imagine how bad Izzy would make him squirm?
