It really is no wonder he turned out a bit resentful to Hawke and magic in general. I can totally empathize. I'm very confused by people that dislike Carver, just makes no sense.

While I do understand that he is certainly not for everyone, I honestly believe that some people just don't take the time to think about why he acts the way he does. Which is a shame because he's an extremely well-written character. (But then again Lukas Kristjanson seems to have written quite a few of sadly underappreciated characters.)

A lot of people just seem to get mad in general when someone doesn't automatically think that their PC is a god among men. However, I find the most interesting characters the ones you have to try to get to like you. That's why as a mage Hawke, I love Carver and Fenris. 

I also wish there was more development between the siblings. I missed my little brother in Act 2 and 3. I felt there was a lot of lost potential there.

Oh my god, I need to kill Hawke more in combat.  Or take Varric around with me less, since his comments seem to trump Carver's.  Little bro, the more I play DA2, the more winsauce you become.
