I really want Carver back for a companion DA:3. He's the best

Agreed! And if we play as a new protagonist in DA3 I want him to be available for romancing. ^_^

Yes! He needs some love!!

Well I just ran through Legacy and was rather pleasantly suprised to find how much I actually liked Carver...

I'd assumed that after running off to join the Templars out of spite back in Act 1, and Hawke becoming the Champion, by Act 3, this would only have increased his hostility towards his mage big sister, but he actually semed rather grown up and able to restrain his snarky comments. I expected him to make more of a deal about the revelation that Malcolm didn't wish his children to have magic, but he didn't...

The conversation at the end hit all the right notes, particularly the awkardness that both clearly wanted to reconcile. Seemed they both were still too stubborn to be the one to say it first...

Dammit Carver! You made me radically change my opinion of you! I wanted to snark you into oblivion!

I'm curious, I have only done Legacy during Act 1. I know if you are very careful and then with Legacy it is possible to get Carver up to 100 friendship. But of course the last +15 comes from taking him to the Deep Roads and then turning him into a Warden. So...

My question, is there ever a chance to have the 100 friendship conversation that you can have with every other companion if you do Legacy later? Or just the post-Legacy family reminisce?

Interesting question - I haven't played Legacy in Act 1 but only in combination with Legacy + deep roads + warden you will achieve full friendship but after deep roads he is not longer available, so I don't think so. Is there a conversation for the rivalry path if you maxed this out in Act 1?

I must say I have now the perfect Carver combination for me found: Carver as grey warden on friendship. On rivalry and as templar he is really annoying (yet this can be very funny to play) but as grey warden and on friendship I really love him. If he would be available as LI and not Hawkes brother my Hawke would go for him :)

I max-friended Bethany before the end of Act 1 and she didn't get a Questioning Beliefs-style full friendship conversation, so I don't think Carver gets one either, just the Legacy conversation and final battle conversation.

Absolutely beautiful.

The same artist made this comic starring Malcolm and Carver. It's not yet finished, though.

I killed Anders and it's all Caver's fault. As far as Anna was concerned, Anders endangered her Templar brother with his actions and had to be stopped.

I know I'm kinda late to the party, but I've just taken a mage Hawke past Lothering for the first time and yikes, Carver is awesome!

I mean, wow. I heard so many complaints about his character that I imagined they must be justified (in spite of past experience informing me that many fans hate characters I love, like Kaidan and Carth, and call them "whiny" for no good reason I can see). But he is clever, forthright, and hilarious. He calls people out when they should be called out, yet has quite a dry sense of humour for such a straightforward guy. Seriously, I started this playthrough to romance Sebastian (since that requires no flirting with anyone else, so I thought I might as well start a new character if I was going to backtrack to chapter one), but I think that getting to know Carver is going to be the best part by far. Mind you, given that Aveline is my favourite companion, maybe I should've guessed I'd enjoy the other companion written by Lukas just as much.

Hooray for Carver!

Good to see somebody else discovering the awesomeness of Carver. ^_^

He is, by far, my favorite companion in DA2. I much prefer him to Bethany because he's not afraid to voice his opinion. I like his outspokeness; he's not some insipid "yes-man" following Hawke around. He just feels way more real.

And because I haven't seen this in awhile, here' s some Carver fun by SilverHyena. :P

Exactly
I do like Bethany; I admire her particularly for making the best of her
lot in the Circle and being a force for good there rather than causing destruction through rebellion.  But I love Carver.  The conflict in his
relationship with Hawke makes it much more interesting and involving.

Ok. I just started another playthrough, and something is driving me insane! :pinched:

So I'm cruising around the docks during the day with Carver. One of the NPCs must've said something to him because next thing I know, Carver says, "Yes and no. ****** off!"

Does anyone know what he was reacting to?

This is what happens when I don't wear my headphones when playing DA2. I hear so much more with those on!
edit: There's not enough Carver pic love on here.

The dock foreman says, "Strong back on you. Can you lift, and are you cheap?"

Carver is either my favorite or second favorite companion. I can't decide. I think he's pretty awesome to begin with in Act 1 but just gets better as the game progresses.

Ha! Love my surly brother. ^_^
In DA2, he's my favorite. Varric is close; gotta love that dwarf. He's just so awesome.

I couldn't agree more.

Here's another of Malcom and Carver from Naiad Color Rites' blog:

That's exactly the artist I meant. Isn't it odd how attached you can get to a character who died before the game even began? (By that, I mean Malcolm, not Carver. Carver never dies in my games. Ever.) I sincerely wish we could spend more time with the Hawkes in DA2.

I agree, berelinde. I wish we could've gotten to know Malcolm a bit better. Legacy gave a lot more insight into his character, motivations and relationship with his family, though.

You're very welcome, Saberchic!

You know... I used to think Grey Warden Carver was awesome.
Then I imported him into Legacy... now I like Templar Carver a bit more.

Both are still a bit of an arse, but wow... Grey Warden Carver....
HOW DO YOU LIFT YOUR NOSE THAT SODDING HIGH!

It's growing pains. He's still getting used to being on his own. He's also living a life that was chosen for him, but it's one he believes in. He'll get there eventually, but he's going to chafe a bit until he does.

I have never seen a companion do such an amazing verbal sneer like he does though.
To Hawke and to Aveline.

Rather impressive.
