Those aren't rivalry specific. I got them with a friended Carver, too. Or at least the first one isn't as I'm not 100% sure if I got the second one or not.

Don't have a tumblr, but I completely 100% agree with everything OuyangDan says.

Speaking as a big sister, with a brother very much like Carver, they NAILED the sibling dynamic in a way that made me very, very happy.

I finally played Legacy with a templar and friend Carver, and while I like the rival dialogue I must say that the friendship dialogue in the end when they are back at Hawke's estate was very sweet. Carver said something like that everything is going to be alright one day, and asked his sister to take care. It was very sweet

I was not really anti-mage but I avoided to bring him for some pro-mage missions, and took a more neutral stand on the mage question. But yes the dragon age wiki was great help.

Well, my Hawke was pro-circle, but only to a extend. She beleived that the Circle should live but reformed, perhaops into a school for specially gifted children, give them the same education she had gotten from her father herself. She didn't believe in destruction as Anders did, which is why she rivaled him too.

Sending Grace and Feynriel to the circle was solely because she feared what they would become without proper training.

Carver agreed.

On my first playthrough, there was a funny moment for me when I was on a quest with Carver; he remarked that he was tired of always dealing with mages. I had an epiphany and then kept him out of the mage-centric quests (well, most of them).

It was hard to not drag my brother everywhere with me, but I acquiesced to his wishes, and our friendship grew.
That was without metagaming, btw, and I was pro-mage. I <3 Friendship Carver so much!

Finally managed to friendship Carver - it's awesome! I always liked the Carver grey warden story, but add in frienship and it's amazing!

It took some careful planning, but I was able to get to 30 friendship with Carver on my revolutionary pro-mage Anders-friendmancing Hawke, without doing anything out of character.

Awesome! I think that's about where I got with him (maybe a little under once he clued me in) on my first time playing. I just love him as a warden. I haven't yet made him a templar. I've stopped one of my playthroughs where I was planning on making him a templar.

One of these days I'll try it. I swear I will.

I accidently templar'd him in my first run (I knew something bad happened if he went into the deep roads) but ever since it has been grey warden every time!

If anybody is interested in friending Carver as a heavily pro-mage Hawke I could post how I did it?

Please do! My charms never seem to win him over - all I ever manage is make him hate me a little less.

The important thing about completely befriendsing Carver is to always count in the small things too, and NEVER, ever rival him any points.

Like the quest from Athenril, you get +f points for saying no to her first, then take Carver and Aveline out of the party, agree to the quest, and then bring them along both when you give Bryce the goods and when you tell Athenril the truth.

My rivaled Templar Carver had very little to say to my snarky Hawke during MotA, interestingly enough. I think I got all of ONE dialog between the two of them. Rather disappointing.

Deep Roads - take him (10),  find wardens (5)
Enemies Among Us - kill Idunna (5)
Family History - blue/purple options (15)
Sheparding Wolves - agree to help (5), say "just pay me" to Petrice (5)
Tranquility - defer to Carver for refugees (10), "help any mage" -> -5  -> overall +5
Unbidden rescue - agree (5), "right to question" (5)
Legacy - diplo options (15), help Larius (5)
Loose Ends - refuse Athenril (5),  give Pryce goods (10)

NOTE: accepting Loose Ends with Carver -> -10, best to refuse with him the party, come back later in the act without him and agree, then pick him up on the way -> total +15

Total = 40 = friendship dialogue
