aargh, sorry, my life got pretty hectic these past few days, I'll try to remember to post it tonight!

Edit: here you go!

Starts off -55

Only take him on these:

Deep Roads - take him (10),  find wardens (5)
Enemies Among Us - kill Idunna (5)
Family History - blue/purple options (15)
Sheparding Wolves - agree to help (5), say "just pay me" to Petrice (5)
Tranquility - defer to Carver for refugees (10), "help any mage" -> -5  -> overall +5
Unbidden rescue - agree (5), "right to question" (5)
Legacy - diplo options (15), help Larius (5)
Loose Ends - refuse Athenril (5),  give Pryce goods (10)

NOTE: accepting Loose Ends with Carver -> -10, best to refuse with him the party, come back later in the act without him and agree, then pick him up on the way -> total +15

Total = 40 = friendship dialogue Posted Image

Hi, Carver thread. Posted Image

I lurk, but don't post, usually. Just thought I'd add something to Tyrium's post though. If you take both Carver and Fenris to Darktown to confront the slaver about Feynriel, and have Fenris get the information out of him, and then kill him, Carver gets friendship points. Ten, I think.

And accepting Dougal's offer in "friends in low places" gets five points.

Oh, and there's the gift from Birthright too.

Hiya, the gift in birthright is what gives you that 15 in Family History :)

I didn't include Danzig, because if you then go and send Feynriel to the Dalish, you lose those 10 points, and (to me) it doesn't make sense to swap companions at that point lol, but yeah, there is an extra 10 if you do.

I've begun my DA2 fic:  The Renegade, Book One:  The Sounds of Silence.

Carver Hawke will be playing a large part in this, of course. :wizard:

I finally played Legacy with a templar and friend Carver, and while I like the rival dialogue I must say that the friendship dialogue in the end when they are back at Hawke's estate was very sweet. Carver said something like that everything is going to be alright one day, and asked his sister to take care. It was very sweet

Is this dialog similar if he's a Grey Warden or is it specific to him being a Templar?

I'm pretty sure he's going to be in friend territory with me, but I'm wondering how much it effects him as a Templar during the main plot and the DLCs. It seems I have more contact with him through letters, etc. as a Grey Warden, and it seems almost everyone goes that route with him (as it does seem cool) but I just liked the concept of me and Carver being at odds with each other and yet still being friends as opposed to him just being all angry and rivalry with me as a Templar.

Also, is it just me or does it feel like these two sibling characters were originally intended to be available regardless
of class and perhaps you had an opportunity to choose which one you wanted to save by choice of dialog or something else (a very Mass Effect 1 type of decision early on in the prologue.) A lot of the +Approval stuff for Carver seems SO difficult for a MAGE character to be doing with it actually making any roleplaying sense.

A mage can still think that mages are generally best served by being in the Circle even if he or she isn't. A lot of the other stuff he likes is killing slavers and blood mages, which isn't really class related.

Here's some quick Carver math for Friendship Dialogs, etc.

Templar Carver can never be at 100% because you sacrifice 25 friendship points (and LOSE 15) by not bringing him. As for actual Friendship Dialog with Templar Carver, in the Legacy DLC, that is ONLY obtainable by joining Athenril during the prologue, if you side with Meeran you'll be 45% into friendship, Athenril will put you EXACTLY at 50% (this also means doing Friends in Low Places and losing 50 sovereigns or an achievement.) If you want GAME friendship dialog if you sided with Meeran you'll have to sacrifice a loss of friendship dialog and other possible interesting stuff during the Legacy DLC by doing it in Act 1 (or sacrificing Legacy DLC dialogs and doing it ASAP at the start of Act 2.) It may be entirely possible friendship dialog will trigger mid-mission if you getting +Friendship during the quest. I'm going on the assumption you don't, and that this is decided when you start the mission.

This option has been entirely ruled out for me personally, and I'm also basing this on the assumption that anything that ISN'T 50% into Friendship or Rivalry is still considered neutral (which sort of makes sense, 50 points friendship, 50 points neutral, 50 points rivalry.)

Now, Grey Warden Carver is WAY easy to max but ONLY with the DLC, you'll be 10 points off from 100% with Athenril and 15 points off with Meeran. You can even opt out of Friends in Low Places and still be able to hit 100% regardless of who you side with and EVEN have some room for one small choice where you don't get +5 Friendship or even earning a +5 Rivalry (I think.) But you're cutting it damn close if you do that unless you've joined up with Athenril, then you have 10 points of breathing room.

I feel sad that I don't come to this thread as often as I used to. He is still my favorite character in DA2 though.

So I've made Carver a Templar for the first time.

I thought I wouldn't like it, but it's perfect for my aggro Blood Mage rivalry playthrough.
Boy, he's a angry young man!

I'm at the beginning of Act 3 now and looking forward to Legacy (Isabela xD) and MotA (Merrill :D) dialogues!

Bumping this because I recently played Legacy. When I first got the game, I couldn't stand Carver. At the end I was determined to play as a Warrior or Rogue from then on. But over time Carver's character has grown on me. A combination of my love of playing a mage in this game (which is odd, since Rogue was my favorite in Origins) and Carver's growth surpassed Bethany's really made me like him. He's definitely the little brother I never had.

Will be making him a warden from now on though.

Legacy is pretty great with Carver.   The dialog you get with him afterwards is the best.  He has some awesome (i.e., really funny) dialog in MotA as well, though I only like to take him if he's a Templar (I just feel odd that Carver or Bethany would leave their Grey Warden duty to go to an Orlesian party...but I have no problem with Templar Carver...go figure).

It's really odd how Bethany and Carver worked out. I found Carver to be the better character, but Bethany is the most useful companion of the two.

out of all characters, i actually related to Carver the most. i'm kinda the looser black-sheep sibling in my family too (except i'm actually the oldest child). it was weird seeing myself from the outside like that!

I'm a long-time lurker but have never posted in this thread, but thought I'd join in on the Carver-discussion.:)

I've played through DA2 a good few times now, and only in one of those did Bethany survive. And this is coming from someone who rarely played as a mage in DAO. I just love the rivalry relationship between Hawke and Carver - it feels very real, and can get very annoying at some times, but it can be moving too. And I think the development that we see Carver go through is much more meaningful than that of Bethany.

Most of my Carver playthroughs have been with him as a templar - I just think it cranks up the tension even further and I love the parallels of Carver as a templar and Hawke as a mage and this whole rivalry dynamic going on. And whatever way it ends, one of them ends up compromising for the other and I think that's a really interesting resolution.

If anyone's interested, I'm actually a good way into writing a fanfic about the relationship between templar Carver and mage FemHawke. It's never told from their point of view, but from the viewpoints of their companions and other NPCs, like Gamlen and Cullen. So you get an outside perspective on how their relationship is developing (or deteriorating!) www.fanfiction.net/s/7152848/1/Interludes Hope it might be of interest to some of you!

its really a shame you only get carver playing as one class, where was with beth you get 2 choices.
i've never been a fan of playing mages in any game - too squishy. also wouldn't mind see the sibling dynamics if carver feels he isn't the only nonmage. i think bethany would feel cursed no matter if hawke was mage or nonmage
