Where are the Approval Points in the demo XD I played through it about 10 times and I haven't seen/notice them at all.
I just thought they weren't included in the demo, but now that I know they are I want to see what kind of opinions Carver likes for my Mage playthrough.
You can get +5 Friendship with Carver, +10 with Bethany and +15 Friendship/Rivaly with Aveline (depending on your choice)

ONLY WHEN YOU'RE WARRIOR/ROGUE. WHAT? WHY BRO? Y U HAET my pimpin' magic skillz?
Huh, I got the +5 friendship for my mage when I picked the middle option. Hmm...
And Carver in the exaggerated scene in motion is so... glorious!
Ah, then it must be as Tamyn said then. Only if you choose to investigate further Carver disagrees (so no approval!).
If it makes you happy Carver, I'll choose to plunge right into our death next time without investigating
btw, I'm starting to think the jerkass is gonna be Carver. Fen seems to be a pretty calm and collected guy from the previews I've seen. Unexpected for me actually.

I know right! I also snickered a bit when he said "Shall I give them a taste of my blade?" because it sounded dirty. (Because I'm immature, apparently... lol)
I really, really like Carver. I think there's a much more interesting potential relationship there for Carver and Hawke than there is for Hawke and Bethany. I like Bethany too, but she seems less fleshed out than Carver. Heck, even her codex entry is shorter and doesn't say much of interest except that she looked up to Hawke.
With Carver we have him feeling overshadowed by his siblings and trying to find his own place in life. I'm really excited about that. I think him finding a balance between loving and standing by Hawke and finding his own place out from under Hawke's shadow would make for a very compelling story, and I hope Bioware delves into it.

I think both the siblings will have great chemistry with Hawke. In Beth's case she'd probably feel too overprotected from Hawke her whole life, while in Carver's case he keeps getting overshadowed by his older bro/sis.
Can't wait. Can't wait.

Oh, I hope not. I don't mind if he has difficulty and a problem trying to stand out over his brother/sister. But being a jerk would be a bit... immature.
I was thinking of Anders being the jerk if you enter a rivalry with him, especally with his possession. But then again, BW doesn't like making most male characters being a jerk in general.

Indeed. I'm not writing off any companion before even playing the game. If I don't particularly like a certain screenshot or clip, I don't get worked up about it. To me it's all brief, out-of-context glimpses until I experience everything for myself. I'm eager to meet all the characters, a few more than others, and the siblings most of all. And Carver largely because of what I quoted from you up there. We'll see however it plays out. Maybe he's the jerkass, and that might work better in some play throughs than in others. He may end up my favorite companion, or somewhere in the middle of the pack, or the one I dislike the most. I don't know, but for now it's fun to look forward to finding out.
Edit for funky post structure. I've really got to stop typing with the laptop balanced on my knees.

Has anyone else noticed that the two parts of the demo (escaping Lothering and meeting Isabela) seem to be two completely seperate parts? Carver's rivalry increases quite a bit between the two parts regardless of your earlier approval change. I only had friendship points during the early part of the game, but Carver was way more toward Rivalry in Kirkwall. Including rather snappy comments when I spam-clicked him.
That, and I had to completely re-choose everyone's talents except for Hawke's.
They are two separate portions of the game. The prologue is escape from Lothering, and then it skips quite a bit ahead to when you help Isabela. Kind of like in the ME2 demo, you start on the Lazarus station which is the game's tutorial, then it jumps all the way ahead to Mordin's recruitment mission.

Though I would understand why he could be a jerk, living with two mage apostate siblings is tough enough. He's just frustrated from all the constant hiding and running most likely. Plus he has no magic= RAGE
V!Anders might be a jerk. I can't say much about him yet.

Yeah, I figured out that they were. I just expected what you did to carry through to the second part of the demo, which wasn't the case. I mostly just wanted Carver to like my Hawke more, but he was all rivally and stuff. Boo.

You only get Carver if you play as a mage.

Yep. I can also confirm this.
It also seems like there is some confusion about the rivalry/friendship path. Maybe this helps:
Jennifer Brandes Hepler wrote...
As a general rule, the way friendship and rivalry works, is that friendship means agreeing with and supporting the follower in what *they* want to do, no matter how crazy, illogical or dangerous to self and others. Rivalry means opposing their big cause, often for the right reasons. So it's very possible to be a better friend to someone by choosing the rivalry path, since you're trying to stop them from giving in to their own self-destructive whims.
It's not always the most intuitive, but definitely don't think of friendship as doing the "right" thing and rivalry as doing the "bad" thing. It's just as likely to be the other way around.
I think we should keep this in mind.

I noticed that people saying that Carver sounds more hostile towards Hawke in Kirkwall, but when I click on him the only thing he says is "Right behind you." It didn't sound like he had any attitude when he was saying it. Does he say anything else? Am I having issues in my demo? (I know when click on Wesley, his mouth moves but he says nothing) Perhaps I've got a glitch in my game?
Also, LOVING Carver in my party! :wub:He does seem way more interesting than Bethany.
He does also say, "Wenn Du einen Plan hast, nur zu." (= "If you have a plan then by all means.") in the German demo and the German VA sounds quite snappy.
I don't mind, though. I quite like his attitude.
"One more sword between us and the darkspawn horde? I'm all for it."

He was a bit of a weak link in the demo. Not enough defense and I don't think he had an aggro dump. I played twice as a mage and both times fighting the Ogre I had to micro some element of Carver to keep him alive (usually by making him run away). Second time even that couldn't save him.
You think so? I didn't have any problems except for the first time we met the ogre on the "what really happened" playthrough. My entire party died there. After I started the demo up again, I had no problems with him. I gave him 1 skill off the defender tree and the rest I think I put into the two handed branch. I thought he was full of win.

Pretty much this.
Put some points into the defender branch as well as constitution and you're good to go.
