So from what I hear I can't be a mage & keep my sister in my party thats BS. from what I seen from this game so far is that your party is mostly warriors or rogues & the fact that I really wanna play a mage & have a defense mage & an attack mage. & you tell my I gota have the brother if i'm a mage thats crap & I think caver sucks. & then the fact no matter if your a warrior or rogue hawk you still cant pick if you want to role with your bro or sis. BAD BAD move BioWare, if the game is about choices then I the player should have the right to pick if my bro or sis is killed.
If that's your biggest concern, then I don't think you need to be worried. Your party will still have Anders and Merril. If you play a mage, then there will be three mages in your party. You will still be able to build a mage for defense and one for attack. If it's just that you want to play a mage and Bethany is your favorite sibling, then yeah, it's not
possible. But if you really enjoy playing mages I don't understand why you'd let that spoil it for you. There was a dev quote a while back that said we would eventually see why the story requires a sibling's death based on class, and if the story is good and it requires this choice be taken away from us to work, then I can happily live with it.
As for Carver tanking, I also seem to remember a dev post where one of them built him to do it on normal but wasn't sure about the efficiency of it on higher difficulties (I'll see if I can find it again). Which won't be a problem for me, because I doubt I'll play on anything harder than normal. That and I kind of like the idea of making him a damage dealer, but that could leave me without a tank on my first run-through. I'm a casual gamer so I miiiight need one. I did in Origins. Conundrum!
Edit: Found it.

I've done this, in fact. I don't know if it's a great idea on nightmare, but Carver and Fenris can be built to tank on normal.
From here. And I
'm almost positive I'll never play on nightmare, so this doesn't bother me.

So was it just me or did MamaHawke seem more upset about bethany dying than carver? It don't think it was intentional but she just seemed more into the bethany death scene.
Both seemed lackluster. I did like how MamaHawke's "I don't want a hero I want a son" line was delivered. But on the "I will never forget you" part, Bethany's did seem to have more of a punch. For me it about breaks even. Lacklusterly.
