There Carv, a little fan boost for ya. *Not the greatest, but better than nothing*
And I assume he's a 2H warrior due to the fact that I couldn't see a shield in the screen cap. But you can slightly see the hilt of his sword.
And, seriously, this is what I referenced for the pose: Click

1) Carver is a warrior. That's a legit job. Seeing as everyone else in the family is either an apostate mage (Bethany and Hawke-Dad) or a former noble woman (Hawk-Mom), Carver is clearly going to be the primary bread winner in the family. That's points for Carver... the dude is feeding Hawkette's mom and keeping a roof over her head.
Maybe your Hawkette is a warrior. Okay, that's fair. But how good a warrior is she? I'm betting at the time they flee Lothering, she's level 1. So come on... Probably a level of skill or so below Carver.
2) Carver fell from the family tree and rolled... just a little. Why is that good? Hawke-Dad is an apostate mage in Kirkwall. Great example Hawke-Dad. Carver on the other hand, maybe he gets out foxed by cows sometimes, but Carver is there for the rest of the family. Further, Hawke-Mom's family, the Amells, are nobles in Kirkwall. So reading between the lines we can suppose the Amells are good Chantry chanty chanting folks with templar connections... that leave Hawkette and company rotting in a refugee camp. The pious Amells pretty clearly disowned Hawke-Mom. Carver, like Hawke-Mom, could care less about the Chantry. Carver's there because he loves his family even if it means he'll probably die shielding apostates. That's more points for Carver: He's a man.
3) He looks deficient in the brains department. i.e, he looks dumb. Chicks =love= dumb guys. This means he probably had a way with the farmgirls... The perfect wingman for Hawke or a bi Hawkette.
4) He can't actually be dumb. His twin sister is a mage, his mom is a hoity-toity noble, and his dad is an apostate mage. The guy had brains, willpower, and nerve all over his upbringing. There's no way some of that didn't rub off on him. That right there is the best of both worlds. Brains where no one would expect them.
5) If it is true he gets made into an ogre's omlette, it will be because Hawkette failed him. Remember, in DAO four people brought down an ogre in the tower at Ostergar. Alistair was experienced, the guards were rank and file, and the Warden was barely blooded. Carver goes up against the ogre with Hawkette, an experienced templar, and Bethany, the mage. At absolute best, that's a fair fight. More likely, that's well in Carver's favor.
Anyways, his name is Carver Hawke. And he's our brother.

I have to say though ... after looking at that cap. for so long ... Carver's going over how they're doomed. I see "Then we're trapped. The Wilds are to the south --"
So he's a downer.
Nice. There's always one realist in the family. *That also explains the doom and gloom that is Mama Hawke*.

I'm thinking either Hawke leads the family/group the wrong way which leads to smooshered Carver, or he pulls a "sacrifice self so others can flee!" thing. Kinda doubt that though.

That's implying that Lady Hawke, if she's a warrior, will be less skilled than Carver. Why? Because she's a woman??
Never mind the fact that Lady Hawke is the eldest sibling.
Who's to say she isn't a better warrior than Carver, and maybe someone Carver looks up to and idolizes........

Ooo, I hadn't thought of that. I wonder if they'll do interrupts like Mass Effect 2 or something along those lines? Where you're with the refugees and you go barrelling down an alley... Only to have Carver yell, "this way!" And another "yell over here!" and depending on which way you go someone gets splattered. It would keep with the "no right choices" feel from much of DAO and it would be a little emotional jab at you too.
And thanks.

Uh... I think you... may have read into that a wee bit much.
I think the message would have been the same if the Hawke in question was a male. The joke was made at Hawke's level when leaving Lothering... that's all.
And come on, people need to cut it out with the whole she can be as good as the boys, because she's a woman! or something... kind of attitude. Any jab made at the lead character's gender is all in good fun, because really, the only difference between any Bioware lead character is boobs and a love interest. And hate to say it, but little brothers generally don't idolize their big sister if said big sister is more athletically capable then they are. Ask my little brother.
Either way, it was jesting. And if he had said instead "Well, Carver is a man. So he's better than Hawkette. Because she's a woman."... well, then even if it was in good humor, the joke would fall flat.
