Needless to say that is not something I want to experience again.
It's too heart wrenching.

Bethany says that she's happy in the Circle.ZerbanDaGreat1 wrote...
I took Carver into the Deep Roads, not knowing I had to take Anders too. What, in general, seems to be better for him - Wardens or templars? I'd definitely make Bethany a Warden, since it cancels out the problems of magehood, but I'm thinking templar is a more fulfilling line of work for Carver.

They both act pissed about becoming Wardens.

And yet I've heard people say that Carver deals much better with it in the end than Bethany. Can someone verify that?

I like both character arcs. Choosing the templars would mean Carver stepping into the footsteps of his namesake and choosing the Grey Wardens would mean finding a sense of belonging into something that is bigger than just himself.

God, I love Carver, easily one of my favorite companions (tied with Merrill). When he tries to blame you for Bethany's death, you can just see how much he regretted saying that, such a high part in the game for me.
I love that scene as well - it's very emotional and the writing as well as the VAs are amazing.

OK, this is the only place I believe might know the answer to this question: Can you get Carver back as a campanion for the last battle if he joins the templars and you side with the mages? Not the little scene where he defends you against Meredith along with Cullen, but actual squad re-joining.
I know he can still side with you as a Grey Warden, but my current MageHawke couldn't bear to put him in danger in the deep roads(plus he and Anders are both healers, and it would make that dungeon particularily difficult. And I will not kill my little brother! I WON'T!)
He will be at Hawke's side no matter what decision you make.

They didn't have sex if you're a male Hawke, so I doubt it.CastonFolarus wrote...
Wait, just thought of this, maybe Carver already had a child with that farmgirl back in Lothering that wrote him a letter! Just thought of that!
Good thing my MageHawke is a girl then, isn't it?

I was wondering as well if anybody knew any sure fire ways of getting friendly with Carver outside the obvious companion quest and all that. So far from the side quests i've only been able to gain a handful of points and was suprised when i i got neither friendship nor rivalry points during 'Enemies Among Us' Anyway i'll list the few increases i could find so far.
Killing Idunna +5
Speaking with the elf about ninette+5
Letting lord Harimann live +5
Telling Meeren you let him live +5
Hope it helps people a lil.

Oh, no! That sucks! It's a truly awesome scene. Though, Nate gets to see some serious sibling rivalry.
I love that scene as well! Without the rivalry part, of course.

It's a tough decision. I think Carver is initially more happy with the templars, because it was his decision. The letter you get from Act 2 indicates that he resents Hawke (...as usual, lol) for him joining the Wardens. Yes, it saved his life, but it was another decision he was railroaded into. He wanted to choose his own path, and joining the templars let him do that.
I'm not sure how Act 3 affects them both. He certainly comes to terms with being a Grey Warden and he isn't unhappy or resentful about it any longer. I haven't beaten it with him as a templar yet, so I'm not sure how that plays out. I know he stands against Meredith, so I don't know how much his attitude towards templars as a whole is soured.
If I had to guess, I'd say that he ultimately is happier in the Wardens despite being resentful at first, whereas he becomes disillusioned with the templars. That's just speculation on my part, though.
I'm not sure which I prefer more. We get to see him in an extra quest if he's a GW, which is nice, (LOVE their Deep Roads sibling snark), but him being a templar just fits in so well with the story.

Chignon you would'nt happen to recall what you did to get Carver near maxed as a friend, i seem to getting nothing from him on almost every quest.
Oh dear. I don't remember all of it as it was on my first playthrough but here's what I do remember:
- In Act I you'll get a letter from the elf smuggler Athenriel if you agreed to work with her when you arrived in Kirkwall, go and see her but turn down her offer for work
- Do his personal quest involving Tobrius's documents
- Let Carver deal with the Fereldans confronting you outside of Lirene's Fereldan Imports
- Convince Feynriel to go to the Circle
- Do not agree to Grace's suggestion to kill Thrask and hand her and the other mages over to Thrask
- Agree to Vartag Gavorn's offer to give you coin for the Deep Roads expedition
- Taking him along to the Deep Roads expedition
- Accepting and completing the quest to rescue Seamus
I hope that helps at least a bit.

Aye i'm a tad gutted in my import the flag for nathaniel being alive is bugged, though i think its a problem for a few 360 users. Either way i end up with Fool's gold instead, even when importing the save when Nate was with me against Mother O.o
If it helps, I got the Fool's Gold quest in my import too and didn't get Nathaniel's cameo but Carver still came back to rejoin me as a Warden? So maybe hope isn't lost for you in getting him back.

I like the idea that your Warden helps him like he/she did for your other party members in DA:O. Telling him to man up and stop blaming Hawke for everything that's wrong in his life to harden him or saying that he/she knows Carver is better than the petty grudge he's holding against Hawke as a kinder option.leggywillow wrote...

It probably helps that Carver is definitely banging my Warden now. FemTabris will give him tough love until he grows up, and then just regular love. Bow chicka wow wow.
What? They're totally in a relationship. And one day I will write a fic about it and no one can stop me! NO ONE!
