Chignon you would'nt happen to recall what you did to get Carver near maxed as a friend, i seem to getting nothing from him on almost every quest. :(

Oh dear. I don't remember all of it as it was on my first playthrough but here's what I do remember:

- In Act I you'll get a letter from the elf smuggler Athenriel if you agreed to work with her when you arrived in Kirkwall, go and see her but turn down her offer for work
- Do his personal quest involving Tobrius's documents
- Let Carver deal with the Fereldans confronting you outside of Lirene's Fereldan Imports
- Convince Feynriel to go to the Circle
- Do not agree to Grace's suggestion to kill Thrask and hand her and the other mages over to Thrask
- Agree to Vartag Gavorn's offer to give you coin for the Deep Roads expedition
- Taking him along to the Deep Roads expedition
- Accepting and completing the quest to rescue Seamus

I hope that helps at least a bit.

Thanks, hopefully they will be some rather large bonuses because at the moment they tend to be trickling in. It's the same for other companions but your not limited to One act to gain max friendship/rivalry. Oh and did you accept money from a Vartag Gavorn? could have sworn in my rogue playthrough his name was Dougal maybe it varies.

I like the idea that your Warden helps him like he/she did for your other party members in DA:O. Telling him to man up and stop blaming Hawke for everything that's wrong in his life to harden him or saying that he/she knows Carver is better than the petty grudge he's holding against Hawke as a kinder option.

It probably helps that Carver is definitely banging my Warden now.  FemTabris will give him tough love until he grows up, and then just regular love.  Bow chicka wow wow.

What? They're totally in a relationship.  And one day I will write a fic about it and no one can stop me! NO ONE!   ::runs away cackling madly::

Do itttt! The boy definitely needs more love in general:D

My fem Tabris is too. The second I heard he could become a warden I new she was going to be all over his junk and one day I'll draw a comic about it:devil:

I wonder how long it takes for a Carver/Merill Fanfic to pop up, i swear he just made a pass at her.

Art has already shown up for them.

But like Leggy... I may make a single Warden for him.

Does Carver do anything except disapprove?

If you would've taken the time to look at the top of the page, you would've seen that yes, he does - just like any other companion.

*sigh* We're gonna get that a lot, aren't we?

And so what if all he does is disapprove? Sibling rivalry is a huge achievement in a video game. ;)

Well, Sia, we all knew more or less from the start that he'd be a bit ... grumpy, remember? Does "Carver disapproves -240" ring a bell? (;

Personally I prefer the rivalry angle.  I haven't even tried to become friends with him, because listening to Hawke and Carver bicker is one of the most realistic and awesome video game interactions I've ever seen.  It makes it even sweeter when they stand up for each other.

I like both but I have to confess that I personally like the friendship angle better. You really have to work for it. The rivalry path is so easy to get with him - you are, what, thirty points away from max rivalry when you start the game?

Bah, no challenge at all. (;

OK, so the only thing Carver approves of is slave mages, even if it's his brother. Even when Carver approves, Carver disapproves. Sounds like rivalry for rivalry's sake. Of course, he picked a convenient target. Nobody but family would tolerate his spoiled crap. I think Carver needs to go on Mom watch while Garret brings home the bacon.

Friendship's almost too much of a challenge. He rarely approves of anything and I don't think you can get him to friend status.

Er, no. It's fairly easy to get him into friends territory if you know what to do and the guide even says it is possible to max it out.

Oh man, when he stood up for me when we met Fenris, I was all "Carver! You do care!" It made me stupidly happy. I love Carver. He feels much more like a sibling to me than I expected (and I have three younger siblings, I am clearly an EXPERT).

Bethany is OK, but if I had my druthers, Carver would be the one making it past the ogre 98% of the time.

If you friend him, does his dialogue change when you meet him at later points in the game?  Or does he still have a chip on his shoulder?

Every time Hawke showed up to save him, he responded with "OMFG, you again?!  Leave me alone!  Mind your own business!"  XD  It was pretty hilarious.  I really couldn't blame him for being resentful, especially if he's a Warden and you show up in the Deep Roads, of all places.  I loved Nate's reaction to their bickering ("Uh, do you... know each other?") and Carver responding with "She's my sister" in tones of deep disgust.  XD

Carver is everything I hoped he would be.  He's a grumpy, surly, resentful jerk of a little brother and I LOVE HIM.

I really can't say enough happy things about his rivalry.  Despite wanting to kick his annoying big sister off a cliff, he still tells Fenris "If you have a problem with my sister, you have a problem with me".  And of course standing against Meredith in the end if go that route.  Every time he showed that family bond I literally squealed with joy.

I'm not quite sure - I haven't done the full rivalry path yet. But yes, he's still not thrilled if his big sister/brother saves the day again, be it the Deep Roads or the "Best Served Cold" quest - which had me have my heart in my mouth, to be honest.

I don't believe the two paths differ much, if at all.

I loved that scene as well.

Probably the sole reason I recruit Fenris. Well, that and after Act I my Hawke is short of a two-handed warrior. Posted Image

AND you said that it was 'fairly easy' and that a guide could tell you how to max out friendship. Since I don't have a guide, I'm not finding it easy. That's the 'and.' Posted Image

I nearly managed it without the guide - that is why I said it was easy and if you take the time to look at the top of this very page and one page back, you will see quite a few pointers on how to gather friendship points.

I shamefully admit to wanting to punch Carver in my second run as a Mage. The first time I'd taken him (and Anders, thankfully) with me to the Deep Roads and I was just completely sad when Carver limped off with the Grey Wardens.

When I came home to find he'd joined the Templar order, though? Not so sad. Especially not when I (logically) pointed out that he'd joined the organization whose purpose it is to hunt down people like his apostate big brother. Carver simply went "Oh, it's always about you, isn't it? At least I know the value of family", and I just... way to get under my skin, Carver! It's not like I just spent, oh, a month or so running through the Deep Roads because I wanted to provide a better life for the family.

I totally wanted to run after him with the letter from Peaches yelling "The girl you liked in Lothering totally wanted to polish my magic staff, Carver" out of spite. Which might not make Hawke a much better person than Carver. >.>

*shakes fist*

Still can't wait to see him again, though. I miss him. >.>

QUESTION.

Is it possible to max your friendship with Carver? I thought I read somewhere that this is actually impossible to do.

I remember reading the same thing, though the guide says its possible i only managed to get him about twenty or so points away from max friendship. Only problem is i had to side with the templars to do so for all the act one quests.

I love your confrontation with Carver so much more haha, jealousy is a wicked tool. I was planning on making a note of an Friendship increases i could find, if you'd like i could post them here.

When I came home and saw him in his templar outfit, I think I literally squealed "OHHHHHHH! OH SNAP!" in a Jerry Springer kind of voice.

This one's femTabris is going to bang Carver too, not before he mistakes her for a boy : DDDDDDD

I love Carver. Loved him before playing the game, and love him even more after finishing it. It really fits him to be a Grey Warden, and my Hawke is definitely jealous of him because he's way more awesome than Hawke xD

Have some Carver-luvin fanart. Both pics are done by me : )

Missing poor Bethany...
