I love Aveline, but sometimes I want to smack her for being so controlling. The only reason Carver has an attitude problem is because he thinks nobody believes in him and he doesn't fit in anywhere. Being in the guard might have solved all of his problems.

I still can't figure out why Aveline doesn't want Carver in the guard.

I thought that she would think that the guard would straighten out Carver in his attitude problem AND give him a name for himself.

Margaret ended up so much more bitter than I intended.   But no more sane than her alter-ego.

(ME:  Dayum, Meg... is this what you were like pre-Kaidan and Garrus?  MEG: Shut up, this is your fault.)

So Meredith just told me that Carver didn't mention me. I wonder if this has more to do with my mage status or the fact he's sick of hearing about me?

Probably both.   He certainly would never risk putting himself back in his sibling's shadow by admitting he's related to Hawke.  But despite all his grumbling, he'd never want to see Hawke dragged into the Gallows either.  ::gives Carver a big hug:: D'aww, you act like you're so tough but you're just a big teddy bear!

All I can see is him glowering at that.

I didn't quite understand her reasoning either.

Hah, you just made me sure that I am going to read your story despite my .... reservations about a certain mage.

I figured it's probably a combination of both but then I've been wondering why Carver should talk to Knight Commander Meredith - of all the people in Kirkwall - about Hawke.

Edit

You know that nothing good can ever come of this, don't you?

Of course not! If Hawke goes to the Circle then Carver will never escape her shadow.

Right now, they're all just bickering in my head.  Nothing concrete.

That doesn't sound too pleasant. But here - favourite moment from the Templar path to cheer you up a bit:

Noah Hawke is pretty! <3 (Is that Noah Hawke?)
I think I will have Carver go into the Deep Roads with me to become a Grey Warden. Then I can see his awesome return in Act 3. :D

I really need some more help with carver, I'm just a bit short of 100% friendship with him. I just get annoyed especially in the beginning cause we seem to agree on things but I don't get a friendship boost. I don't get any points for his 'companion' quest or the conversations before or after it. Am I just not supposed to get points from those?

I'm trying to get him 100% rival before going into the Deep Roads, and I don't accumulate the points. :(
Also, I still haven't received Peaches' letter.

Yep, she ended up looking a lot different than I originally planned.

Grey Warden!Carver is awesome. If you take the Grey Warden path with Carver, you should pick the "The Martyr" import option. This way you'll get an additional quest involving the Wardens.

You don't get enough rival points with Carver? Now, that's a first. Posted Image

Do you mean the quest with Tobrius's documents? You should get a +15 friendship boost if you pick all the diplomatic/helpful options.

I can't find Tobrius's documents, or his quest. Or, I should have his documents, but there's no quest to be found. :(

If you go to the Gallows then you'll meet Tobrius. Carver will wander off because he doesn't want to hear more mage talk but Tobrius will give you letters your father wrote and that you can give to Carver.

It's the Birthright quest you get when first entering Gamlen's house. You have to enter the Amell estate cellar. There'll be a room with a chest right before you enter the Vault of the estate. Open the chest and you'll find Tobrius's documents. This should trigger the "Family History" quest.

Got this quote from Bethany:  "I had a twin brother.  He used to nail my braid to the bed while I was sleeping.  I never thought I'd miss him this much."

LOL, Carver.  Sibling pranks FTW!

I opened the chest. No Family History quest. :(
Damn it, do I really want to go back several hours in gameplay?

It's not the chest in the Vault, though. It's in a seperate room in the cellar. There's even a small black cross that marks the spot on your map.

I think the quest and dialogue are worth it but I know how frustrating it is to go back. So - maybe on your next playthrough?

Carver definitely disapproves of his big sister Hawke.

He probably still hasn't forgiven her for the time she magically dyed his hair green and then claimed not to know how to reverse it.  Even Malcolm was amazed at how stubborn that charm was.  It took him nearly a week to figure out how to remove it.  Vivian was sorely punished, but she maintains it was totally worth it.

And we all know how touchy Malcolm was about hair thanks to this amazing thread, no?

Papa Hawke always said, "If you don't look good doing it, don't do it at all."

Needless the say, the Hawke family grew up with some odd values.

Yes, their personal grooming lessons were often more strict than their magic and combat lessons.

Papa Hawke: No, no, NO!  It's lather, rinse, repeat!  How many times must I tell you?  We'll never move on to blow drying techniques at this rate!"

For some reason that scenario comes with finger snaps and fabulous hand gestures in my head. This is the real reason why Papa Hawke is no longer in the picture. It just didn't work out.

I do, too. Makes me wish we could've explored the twin dynamic between Carver and Bethany a bit more.
