It's too bad we lose him before the romances start.
I know!!! I was desperately hoping for protective brother banter with the LI.

But yes, I wish he'd been around for longer than just Act I, a few quests here and there and the last part of Act III.

Carver would have had a heart attack if he found out that his sister was dating Anders.
He would have a total fit.

I doubt it - it's not like Merrill was the love of his life. They had a three banters with some innocent flirting thrown in. And a quote from the game (paraphrased), "How can anyone be jealous because of Isabela?"
::flails::
Of course Merrill isn't the love of his life! My FemTabris is!

Merrill doesn't HAVE to be the love of his life for him to still be annoyed and jealous that Hawke got with a girl he liked. Carver gets jealous for less.
I suppose that's true.

Especially if he lost out to his sister.

Oh, ouch.
It's probably a good thing then that my Hawkes won't be doing that.

Mine either. He'll be disapproving of Fenris next time. You know... if he was around.

Carver doesn't seem too harsh about Fenris. He actually wants to impress him with his tattoo.
That was probably the best banter in the game. I love the way the entire party chimes in.
Carver: Uhhhh... I can make it bark.
Fenris: Don't.
Anders: Please refrain.
Hawke: ::long-suffering sigh::

Actually, I'm pretty sure Carver can manage to disapprove even if he isn't around.

He's also not too harsh with Isabela. Despite her getting him flustered most of the time.
I think my favourite banter is between him and Varric, though:
Carver: "Varric."
Varric: "Carver."
Carver: "Still think you're helping while burying us in debt with your brother?"
Varric: "Still riding side saddle while bitching at your betters?"
Carver: "Drinks later?"
Varric: "Never miss 'em."

WHAT THE HECK, CARVER??? "Not long enough"??? YOUR MOM JUST DIED, CARVER.
... ::clears throat:: Yeah, that annoyed me. I'm playing a pro-Chantry mage who was as supportive of his decision to be a Templar as the game would allow and he's still treating me like dirt. Obviously he doesn't belong in the Templars, he was so much nicer as a Warden. :<

Edit
And I tried the Templar path, too. It's actually a nice choice for him. It feels like he is following into the footsteps of his name sake, a templar who helped his father escape from the Circle, and what his father wanted for him when he chose Carver's name.
"I want to be someone. Like Father wanted. Like I want. This is my chance."
From the letter he sends, he also sounds a lot more happy about the fact that this choice was his own but that may just be my impression.

When's this? Is this when you choose the diplomatic option and it says that it's been awhile? It's worse if you pick the sarcastic option. He basically blames you for Leandra (what is WITH that family and blaming Hawke for deaths?). I think in the GW outcome, you can tell Carver about Leandra during the invasion.WHAT THE HECK, CARVER??? "Not long enough"??? YOUR MOM JUST DIED, CARVER.

True but I also faulted the writing for that, to be honest. You can't really talk about Bethany with him (or at least not in a manner that doesn't end in a shouting match), you can't tell him about what happened to Leandra. I mean, Gamlen of all people goes to tell him about it. What the hell?

Yeah, he does initially seem much happier about joining the templars than the Wardens. His opinion could easily change after the events of the game, though. He at least becomes content with his life in the Wardens, whereas I think gets pretty disillusioned with the templars.
And I LOVED the shouting match about Bethany. Again, it just felt so real, the tension and harsh words between two grieving people.

I think he already is by the time he sends that letter. Remember the comments about the ideas he heard about that he hopes won't take root?
Yes, I loved it as well but I still would have liked to talk about it. Not vent but talk.

No, only the sarcastic options as far as I know. But maybe I can record and upload it for you, if anyone's interested.

I only got a few comments about Bethany, and my Hawke accused him of hiding behind her. And then Carver gave me these puppy-eyes that looked so sorrowful. D:)
Horrible to watch, but very well written. Again, thanks to Lukas Kristjanson.
