Am I wrong to conclude that most Carver fans are female players? It seems that way. But as a male gamer, Carver is by far my favorite companion. Basically because his character is so flushed out. Too often RPG games like this have player character siblings being your best friends (DA:O Human noble being an example). Carver brings to life sibling rivalry at its finest. He cares for you but is too proud to admit it. He's protective of you as the warrior but always feels shadowed (with good reason) by your accomplishments. Best companion in a RPG I've seen in a long time.

I wouldn't be surprised if Carver had more female fans than male because he's pretty cute.

Seriously, though, I agree with your assessment.  I love Carver so much.  Just wish we had more time with him.

I am a male game who is a huge Carver fan as well, due to everything stated above.

Including the part with him being pretty cute !

I know my sister, my best friend and myself all love Carver. He is the cute but grumply little brother. I think he was one of the best companions in the game

I tried to reload before talking with Aveline and it's the same everytime. He disapproves of you just talking there, at least if you go straight to the answers and don't bother to ask them any question. That shouldn't do any difference though.

Am I the only who thinks this is funny? Yes? Alright then. Posted Image

Nope.  I had to grin.  Impatient little brother.

That he is!  But his "One more blade between us and the darkspawn? Yes, please!" is priceless.

That's a really nice assessment of his character and I agree completely.

One thing that sort of bothered me was how he dealt with the news of mother in Act 2. He seems distant and even throws out "I'm sure you did your best". I am guessing this is the result of Warden training and slow maturity of the character, but doesn't seem like the Carver we know in Act 1. The dialogue tree is too brief and too much is left unsaid.

That's true. As I've said many times, I wish we could've gotten the chance to talk with him more about several events in the game - Bethany's death, Leandra's death, Hawke's LI (if you picked one, of course), etc.

Especially given that he blames you for it if he's a templar and you pick the sarcastic option (about you always showing up when things get exciting).

Another scene I love is in Act 1 where the distraught elf woman is upset her mage son ran away from the Gallows due to his dreaming. Carver's cut scene where he always worried that their mother would one day be this upset over you being dragged away someday was really touching. He genuinely worried all the time about you (and Bethany) for being mages.

It's definitely a love/hate thing with him.

Just wish there was a way to get your choice of surviving sibling no matter what class you play!

Would make it easier to play a rogue than a mage.

True.

I can't count the times I got an annoyed "Not now, sister!", "It's a bloody templar, not now!" or, alternatively, "It's the blasted Knight Captain! Don't!"

Those are my favorite lines.  Carver just sounds so frustrated.  This one was my favorite:

Hawke: Something something mages are awesome
Cullen: Why would you say that?
Carver: Yes, why would you say that to the templar right in front of you?!

He seems to be in disbelief that his sibling is apparently the dumbest person in Thedas. XD

As a male gamer, I love Carver. "The sense of family" that was talked about in dev diaries really seems to come from him more than anyone, you get a real tightness between him and Hawke, and that they are annoyed as hell with each other, but they'll always stick by each other when it gets serious.

I like Bethany, but I love Carver.

Huzzah, I finally beat DA2! It took longer than I expected. So I'm not totally off topic, I loved Carver's reactions too. He was pretty realistic in terms of how he dealt with his family. That didn't stop me from making his older brother one of the most frustrating people to be around.

I think from his interactions with the others, my favorite has got to be Isabella. She gets him so flustered, so easily. It's positively so delicious it's evil.

Omg warden Carver. I'm so proud of him!

For my Hawke, with the entire city at war and she in the middle of it, to have Carver show up and say what he did and act as he did meant everything to her.

Okay, I've finished the Templar!Carver game, and I can safely say I prefer Warden!Carver. Any Carver is better than no Carver at all, but I just really love the person he grew to be in his time with the wardens.

I've been playing the ending several different ways to see how they end, and what's surprising here is if you side with the Templars, Carver! (of all people) criticizes you for not siding with the mages. Loved it beyond words.

WardenCarver just saved Margaret's backside last night. His arrival really alleviated some of the angst about Anders.

Sorry, Aveline. My little brother's back.

I love Carver, maybe because I have a younger brother and we fight all the time.

When my mage saw this, she raged and spared no mage after this little incident with Thrask and Grace.

Carver was my Mage!Hawke's motivation for siding against the Mages with the Templars on my second Mage run. Hawke was already questioning the measures Mages were going to in order to escape/fight the Templars, but when Grace (who Hawke had gone out of his way for to help) kidnapped Carver and threatened to kill him? Yeah, that pushed Hawke over the edge.

It didn't help that Carver had joined the Templars himself. Carver was the only real family Hawke had left after both his sister and mother died. He would sooner see the streets of Kirkwall run red with blood than side with a group that has done nothing but confirm every bit of fear and suspicion about them.

Despite what had happened with Grace, Margaret was still all to aware of being a mage herself. (And her brother's WardenCarver anyway.)

She couldn't condemn, them.

I loved the dynamic between Carver and Hawke. It felt so natural like it was real. Second best relationship in the whole game (and in all the Bioware games) for me. I sided with the Mages though. I knew that it was a hopeless fight but it was worth dying for and I had a feeling that Carver would see and understand me in the end.

This was a great moment. Considering how crappy things had gone for my Hawke on the first playthrough, I was genuinely worried I'd end up having to kill him

So, if you side with the mages, and then get to the templar battle, does Carver still stand by you and tell Meredith you have to kill him to kill Hawke?
