Templar Carver would still support sister. He'd draw the line at killing every single mage out of one woman's lunacy. What is more amusing is how Cullen basically draws the line at her wanting to kill the Champion. But not all the mages pinned in a corner and crying.

That's not true. If you side with the Templars, you will encounter a few mages that wish to surrender, something Cullen supports. If Hawke also supports not killing the mages, Cullen pretty much ignores Meredith and orders his men to take the mages prisoner.

I like to pretend that Cullen and Templar Carver were friends, since they're among the few that aren't bat**** insane.

Thanks for this! I didn't know it happened.

Wow, it's weird how that single choice over taking him to the Deep Roads or not changes him so much. I wonder what GW Carver would think of Templar Carver. :P

You're welcome.

Hah, now that's something I'd lilke to see!

Did you know that I was thinking exactly the same the other day? Especially after the Enemies Among Us quest when he goes, "Do you think we should tell Ser Cullen? We really should tell Ser Cullen! Ser Cullen!"

It'd be cool if Templar Carver found a sort of mentor in Cullen. I kind of get the feeling his problems probably became more pronounced when Malcolm died. I think he could benefit from a positive influence that for obvious reasons couldn't have been Hawke. That chip on his shoulder just got in the way. :P

... Also. Is anyone else here totally ruined for the other two classes? I'm trying to get through this warrior play-through and Bethany's alright, but... I miss Carver. I need to make a third mage. >_>

I haven't been able to finish as a Rogue or Warrior yet. I've tried, but I've failed. Either I didn't like where my romance was going, or I'd make a decision I didn't like and I'd have to start over. I also just don't connect with Bethany the way I connect with Carver. Meanwhile, I've played two mages so far without looking back even once... Maybe I'm just biased.

Meh. Couldn't finish my rogue playthrough - there's an appaling lack of Carver complaining about delicate mage flowers.

My husband thinks I'm nuts for liking the obnoxious younger brother over the overly sweet sister.

Probably because he has 6 younger brothers himself, and I have 2 younger sisters and I don't find Bethany all that realistic. My sisters treat me more like Carver treats Hawke.

Not to mention that is is - in my opinion, of course - much more touching for Carver to finally tell Hawke that he's proud of him/her. It felt like I really accomplished something for him to say that.

Ditto. Bethany's already proud of you. You're her hero.

I still would have liked to keep them both - just imagine:

Hawke Siblings in color by ~Onjivan

And the artist's comment is spot on, I believe:

"Just a little moment between the Hawke siblings. I imagine Hawke will sometimes have those days where being the champion is just too much. Luckily she has a brother and sister who are there to make her feel better... in their own ways.

The way I picture it, Carver isn't very good when it comes to stringing touchy feely words together, so he figures a good distraction is the next best thing.

LMAO, exactly.

So, we know Carver nailed Bethany's braid to the bed... what do you think he's done to Hawke growing up?

Yea, collectively I have 9 younger brothers and sisters and all of them are more like Carver than Bethany.  Even my Sister Ang, who is my best friend, is more akin to Carver.  Bethany, although super sweet, is more like a wounded puppy you need to take care of.  A wounded puppy who can throw fireballs.

Bethany's like an idealized sibling relationship.  Carver's like a real one.

I don't think he was ever able to do much to my Hawkes.  It's part of the reason why he has so much resentment now, because no matter how hard he tried to prank or mess with Hawke, she would turn around and one-up him fiercely.  If he put a frog in her hair, one day he would wake up to find himself DROWNING IN A SEA OF FROG SPAWN.  (It's the sad reason I can't play any jokes on my husband IRL: he turns them around on me and makes me weep for mercy.)

Vivian Hawke definitely messed with Carver all the time, though.  One time she turned his hair green and then stubbornly claimed she didn't know how to reverse the spell.

I imagine Margaret merely tolerated his pranks, not being much of a prankster herself.  Anna's retribution was often swift and terrible.  Like setting his pants on fire.  While he was wearing them.

I was only able to get my Carver at about the halfway point. Like, if Rival is 0 to -100, and Friendship is 0-100, I'm at maybe 15 or 20. *sigh* Should I replay for better (friendlier) dialog, or am I seeing it? He's actually been pretty cool for a while. And I got my first letter from him after he joined the wardens - awwww :-)

Adrianne Hawke is such a peacemaker that if Carver tried to prank her and she'd just smile, be ever so slightly patronizing and say, "That was a good one, Carver! You really got me!"

And then he would hate her for ruining it and go back to bugging Bethany. :P

I'm doing a rogue playthrough and I keep looking at Bethany, thinking "Man, you are't Carver. :(" It's pretty rough. I suspect a lot of my playthroughs will wind up being MageHawke eventually, because he is awesome, and Bethany is only sweet.

This is only vaguely related to Carver, but I'm still playing with the thought of writing a Carver/Tabris fanfic (SHUT UP LEAVE ME ALONE).  Besides Carver character growth via Tabris tough love, and the inevitable love fluff, I'm having trouble thinking of an overarching plot.

So my question is, what do you guys think the Grey Wardens are up to?  Every time we see them in-game they give us some cryptic omen-y hints.  The most obvious answer seems to be another Blight looming.  One of the Awakening epilogues does mention whispers of another Blight in the Anderfels, but the Wardens we meet in Act 2 of DA2 say they're heading to Orlais, I think.

It feels like something is missing, doesn't it? Bethany just... doesn't add a lot to conversation.

@leggywillow: I couldn't really say, I didn't play DA:A so I know a lot of darkspawn-related things have changed since DA:O. Maybe it has to do with that, the whole Architect thing? ... I love your idea of Carver/Tabris though! Carver needs some lovin'. I'm still peeved we couldn't matchmake him in-game. :?

well last Grey Warden thing I saw was the Nate Howe quest... so they are looking for the idol? or maybe something else in the deep roads...? maybe they are chasing the Architect...? (I couldn't bring myself to kill him...) another Golem Anvil maybe?? anyways... def something deep roads related...

When you first meet Meredith, she says something like "I know you, you're Ser Carver's sister" and then "He's never mentioned you". So how does she know that?

I think she must have had suspicions about Hawke's magic before seeing it in action, anonymous tips and the like. Hawke isn't exactly subtle about it. No doubt she would know Hawke and Carver's family connection if that were the case.

Or heck, she could have just seen him/her about town, found out Hawke's name and put two and two together.

Because Carver is part of her order of Templars, and Hawke is a prominent member of Kirkwall's community by that point. It's not hard to figure out the family connection without Carver mentioning his sibling.

Or supposed resemblance :). The very first banter between Varrick and Carver had me in stiches... went something like this:
"You know, there is uncanny resemblance between you two."
"She's my sister. Of course there is a resemblance."
"I meant uncle Gamlen."
"I hate you, dwarf."

:P
