Carver keeps calling me "Brother" during the Nathaniel Howe quest.  D:  It's making me saaaaaad.

EDIT: And when I reloaded the scene, he changed out of his Warden outfit and back into his sleeveless thing. >_<  Carver, why must you glitch so?!

Is your Hawke a girl? Having him call your fem Hawke 'Brother' would be a little...disturbing. :-P

Yep, she's a girl.  I guess Carver finally figured out an insult that would get under her skin.

Carver referred to himself and my male Champion as "The Brothers Hawke" at the end. I almost cried from joy. That's all I ever wanted from him!

He's trying to get you to try a ManHawke. :innocent:

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed (haven't read the whole thread), but I could swear that Carver is especially protective of my mage--at multiple points he seems to break off combat and race across the battlefield when I'm under melee threat. I've looked in his tactics and can't find an instruction to explain this...has anybody else noticed this behavior? If it's something sneakily coded in for Carver alone, I think it's awesome.

Yeah it is awesome... however when I played nightmare I felt like he's taking out all his anger on me in the battlefield... its like when im mobbed by enemies he literally gets near and does his mightyblow, sometimes it outright kills me, i think they need to fix the friendly fire here at least have a reduction, since its not fun fighting in tight corners all it needs is just one lucky crit-mighty blow :D

Just got Carver again as a Grey Warden.  I love their dialogue at the Gallows.  He just grows SO MUCH as a character.

Carver: Great character, or greatest character?

Plus I love Hawke's dialogue. "Don't make me tear up in front of the others, you jackass."

Greatest, definitely. Carver is the most misunderstood, underappreciated BioWare character ever. :crying:

I'm finally up to my second playthrough as a mage at the end of Act 2, with the qunari attack. I made him a Warden, and he was with Alistair. He's so distant that I feel so sad that I had to make him go through the Joining and getting those archdemon dreams... :crying:

And I don't know if anyone posted it here (because I haven't been here for a while), but apparent Carver has a crush on Leliana.

Probably underappreciated because you only get him if you play a mage, and his character arc takes so long to develop.  That being said, it wasn't Anders' final conversation at the Gallows that made me tear up.  It was Carver's.  My Hawke's little brother was all grown up.

He's definitely up there. I started appreciating him when I realized that he had the potential to be the Only Sane Man  of the group, especially compared to a Hawke who goes around telling templars directly that mages are awesome, templars suck, and she's a mage (which is officially my canon mage). Poor Carver. He must go through so much...

I just wish I could have Carver and not play a mage, Warrior (particularly Sword and Shield warrior) is my favorite class to play. Really not a big fan of Mage, but Carver is worth it.

I'm betting large part of that underappreciation comes as resentment for being desirable but out of reach.

Even absent, he effected my characterization of Margaret more than even her LI.  She REALLY missed him.

Me too.  :(  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE playing a mage.  But rogue and warrior are so much fun this time around as well.  Bethany just doesn't grab me the same way Carver does.

On another note, I think Carver's VA also voices Jelen (the guard who pays you for killing Evet's Marauders) as well as Evets himself.

I definitely shouldn't have played mage first. I might've appreciated Bethany more.

I know what you mean, Sia. I really didn't expect the sibling dynamic to be so important.

I always play mages first.  I was doomed.  Stupid little brother.  Jackass is going to make me cry.:crying:

I loved the argument you could have with Carver before the deep-roads, where he pulls up Bethany... then my Hawke started to storm off and he called after her.... Aaaah drama <3

For me the best part about having Bethany was getting to hear her talk about Carver. =P

I pretended that Leandra cuts Carver and Hawke's hair, and that she's not terribly imaginative. Combine that with similar hair- and eyecolor and... well:

You don't know how hard it was to play as a warrior after three or four mage playthroughs. Posted Image

True. I loved how Hawke could talk about Carver with her. It was quite surprising especially with how little Carver talks about Bethany and how these talks usually end...

Wait what? There's people who actually *like* Carver?

Margaret_TheElf wrote...

Bethany, GHawke, and FemHawke all have fan groups, why not Carver Hawke?

Because he's the most annoying Whiner ever. It seems The Whiner is mandatory in every Bioware RPG (Carth in KotOR, Alistair in DA:O, Xan in Baldur's Gate (though Xan was amusing), Sagacious Tzu in Jade Empire etc.) but out of every single one so far, Carver is the most annoying and obnoxious. There's just no pleasing the prat short of being pro-mage-slaughter it seems. Which to me, being a mage, was not a very self-serving way of going about life. I thought Alistair was pretty bad with his constant river of tears in every conversation, but at least he had a valid reason. Carver is just in a foul mood all the time no matter what and moaning for the sake of moaning.

It greatly annoyed me when my brother told me Carver goes splat instead of Bethany (who seemed cheerful and nice) if you play one of the other classes. If only there was a QTE or "Renegade action" where you could push him in front of the ogre instead. *sigh* How I would've loved that.

This is my favorite conversation in the whole game.  Possibly my favorite dialogue in ANY video game.  It just felt so real.
