I loved the argument you could have with Carver before the deep-roads, where he pulls up Bethany... then my Hawke started to storm off and he called after her.... Aaaah drama <3

This is my favorite conversation in the whole game.  Possibly my favorite dialogue in ANY video game.  It just felt so real.

I loved that conversation.  Especially since I did the quest with Tobrius's documents after they had their huge blow-out argument.  I don't think I've ever played a BioWare game where you yell at your companions like that.

EDIT for top: Sister and brother (and Anders), about to seriously f--- up some templar biznatches.

I loved it as well, especially with Hawke going "Felt good getting that off your chest?"

I was adrift with my favorite Hawke for the past few weeks (warrior) and finally came to appreciate Bethany (who I didn't think I'd like) and finally started a mage character last week. I had almost forgotten how awesome Caver was.

So I thought I should share some of these ridicoulous screenshots I took here, in the thread where Carver is respected:

- Isabela x Carver
- Flash? What flash?

This.  I think a lot of the companion interactions are more in-depth in DA2 in that way.  In any other game, if you ****** off your companions, well, that's that.  Companion interactions feel so one-sided in that your PC is either agreeing with them to please them or yelling at them to make them angry.  DA2 is the first game I've played where they really explore a more "real" relationship, where the PC can behave irrationally or yell at a companion and you don't feel like their relationship has been set back at all.  In fact, in several cases it really breathes life into their relationship.

Another pretty good example of that is during "The Captain's Condolences" where Hawke can blame Aveline for her mother's death.  I love picking this dialogue (paraphrased):

Hawke: ::blows up at Aveline:: ...well?
Aveline: Well what?
Hawke: ::getting mad again::  I don't know!  Get angry or hit me or say it'll never happen again or something!

IMO, it's pretty unfair and irrational on Hawke's part, but I love picking that dialogue.  For one thing (and to get back on-topic), it makes her and Carver seem a lot more similar in personality.  They're both hot-headed and tend to lash out at the wrong people when they're hurting.

Greatest, definitely. Carver is the most misunderstood, underappreciated BioWare character ever. ../../../images/forum/emoticons/crying.png

I'm betting large part of that underappreciation comes as resentment for being desirable but out of reach.

*lol* That could be. But I just think, "I can have him in DA3... please GOD, in DA3!" If not there, in fanfic. Preferably not starring that silly ho-bag Peaches. Or Isabela, Merrill, etc. I'd prefer a well-written OC, like Elizabeth Cousland in that awesome Nathaniel fic.

It is a shame that so few people seem to *get* Carver. He's so very, very human. I love that about him. He might even be the most realistically drawn character in the game, or at least, he's certainly among them. Too bad we don't get to see more of him. Act 2 feels lonely that way.

I think Carver may have been the template for my warrior Hawke after thinking of it that way... so I was fanboying even when he was fertilizing my garden. Posted Image

I loved that banter between them. It made me think of Aveline as an overbearing older sister even more.

Is that the conversation you can have right after Birthright? Because I love that one too. It's possibly my favourite convo in the entire game. I love how it's different with each tone you choose, too. Before he mentions it too, but especially once Carver brings up Bethany. The humerous/sarcastic one is my favourite, because of what Hawke tells Carver:

"Fun's fun, but you're taking this little pissing match too far" and "I don't see the humour in digging up Bethany so you can hide behind her too". Carver's sad face and subsequent ""Brother/Sister" are just... I love it.

So I found out because of a bug, I can't get the Nathaniel quest with Carver even using my Awakening save. Wonderful. Anyone have a video of Hawke and Friended Carver in that quest?

You know I really like playing this game but the bugs along with the somewhat railroaded plotline are killing it for me.

I don't think I've seen a version with a friended Carver, but if you want I could make a video of it for you, yoshibb. I'm sorry that you've had such problems with bugs.

I'd really appreciate that. I finally fixed the Standard TV bug which causes all the characters to twitch by moving everything upstairs to an HDTV, but now I keep getting quest bugs. I just want to play this game without problems :(

I forget which sequence of dialogue you have to take to get it, but my favorite path for that argument is where Carver says that Hawke should've given more and Hawke finally bursts out with something along the lines of, "I gave everything! Doubt me, doubt yourself, but never doubt that!" Particularly with Hawkette, she really sold it and sounded both angry and hurt. Bethany is a sweetheart and I do like her, but she doesn't really have any conversations that are quite as engaging as that (to me). Though that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Before playing, I was concerned that since one sibling dies at the start, they would basically be more or less the same person stuck in different models. That they are not.

Your Isabela x Carver and my Isabela x Carver could be twins! You'd only be able to tell them apart by the little bit of Varric's nose/jaw peeking through. And your Carver has the fancy hair.

I attempted to make a custom Hawke a few days ago. The only thing that changed about Carver was his eyes turned that light brown people have been talking about, and I must say, I like it. But my Hawke is very, very unfortunate. Every character creator I touch turns to dust.

I believe it is after Birthright but before you go and get those letters about your father and the templar.  I really liked that quest as well.  I chose to be a bit more aggressive through that, first I joked and mocked, but when he brought up Bethany I pulled a more aggresive "you crossed a line, don't hide behind our dead sister" line.  The look on my Carver's face was just... so expressive. And my Hawke's "Good talk," attempt to end things just perfect for the setup of Carver calling out to him.  It was like two brothers really struggling with a slight rivalry born mostly from, well, being brothers, one living in the other's shadow and the other never intending that and getting tired of being blamed for being himself.

I like Bethany, and I like how Varric calls her "sunshine", but I didn't feel that sort of connection with her.  I dunno, maybe if I do a warrior playthrough I'll let the Circle have her instead of the Wardens and see if interactions with her later in the game spark me.  Or maybe I missed a talk, I missed many things later chapters in my first playthrough.  Or maybe being a roguey sister that isn't anti-mage didn't spring up much.

This may be a glitch of some kind, but when I took Bethany into the Deep Roads, she got all ghoul-ish looking like Wesley.  Carver never did.  I've had Anders with me every time (can't bear to let the sibling die), so it's not that.

Has anyone seen a ghoul-y Carver?  Not that I particularly regret not getting that, since Carver is just too handsome to ruin with Blight.

He looked fine to me when I took him and GW'd him. Maybe the game just knows better than to do something so horrible to Carver's pretty face. Or maybe Carver put his foot down and stubbornly refused to get all pasty and sickly looking. :P

@Meyne: "Sunshine" is cute, but it doesn't make me smile like I do when Varric calls Carver "Junior". ;)

This is my absolute favorite path for that conversation with Carver too. Actually, that conversation ranks up there with the most memorable game moments. It's awesome.

There were a couple frame where he looked ill, but then in the next he didn't... so.. glitchy.
