I also prefer him as a Warden. There's more content and more character development, in my opinion.

Without that scene and with just the snippets of him following Meredith around to go by, it felt like he was still treading water.

I quite agree. You do miss out on something very important with Templar!Carver if you don't side with the Templars - it's a shame, really.

Carver: "You know Fenris, I have a tattoo."

God, I chuckled my ass off during this banter.

Also, I was trying to match up DA2 characters with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia characters for the lulz, and Carver would definitely be Mac, with the sleeveless shirt and the need to show off all the time.

...You truly have a gift, my friend. My hat's off to you. Or would be, were I wearing one.

It's so appropriate.

Hawke: I hate to tell you this bro, but you don't have the core strength to scale the Gallows, you just don't.
Carver: What?! I work out all the time.
Hawke: Yeah but you only work out your glamour muscles and you know it.
Carver: I work out my core
Hawke: No you don't.  You're totally arm heavy, you're all bi's and tri's and everything else is just fat and ribs
Carver: Bro, I can do way more pushups than you and that's like 16 different muscle groups I think
Hawke: That is beyond retarded what you're saying right now.  I can do way more pushups than you even though I was just hit by an ogre.

(I love putting video game characters into movie/show dialogue if you can't tell.)

The rest of the Gang is trickier, though.  I want to say that Isabela = Dennis.  Varric is far too sane to be compared to any of the Gang, but he kinda reminds me of Frank in that he has all the business sense.  Merrill is Charlie-like, but I think Merrill = Dee just because of the way the rest of the companions gang up on her and never take her seriously.  And Charlie could be a horrible mix of Anders and Fenris on their most psychotic days?

Oh.  Meh.

I manage it more often than siding with the mages. My Hawkes want that Viscount seat. Posted Image

Seriously, though - you should give it a try. Or you could just watch it here. The part with Carver starts around 2:48.

Thanks for posting the video, I've never been able to side with the templars as a mage.  Chant of Light as a drunken round song?  I want to hear that!  ;)

Carver being Mac makes me see Margaret_TheElf's drawing in an entirely new perspective!

Charlie's best counterpart being a mix of Anders and Fenris on their worst days really says something about the psyche of Sunny's characters, doesn't it? And I almost want to say that Merrill is Rickety Cricket. Small, gullible, and repeatedly walked all over.

You're welcome!

Me, too! Maybe Varric left it out of his retelling because Hawke's singing just sounded too horrible. He'd ruin the Champion's image. Posted Image

Yes, Isabela and Carver have great banter together.

Also, here's another comparison between Templar!Carver and Grey Warden!Carver - it really is quite obvious which path is better for him.

I know... I'm waffling on whether to make him a Templar now. I want to see it, but it definitely won't be Anna's canon.

Just did a playthrough where I made Carver into a Templar. I really hated it. There was no final conversation despite the fact he stood up to Meredith when his sister sided with the mages.

I just get the sense, they reach no understanding or crossroads.

Also Carver's hair turned white in the final battle. According to the wiki, that may not be a glitch.

I will always make him a Warden in future playthroughs.

Yes, I agree. Now that I've played with Carver becoming a warden, that's probably the path I'll take on any more mages I make. Which won't be for a while, I guess. I need to play a warrior one of these days. And oh yeah, finals are coming up. ...might need to start paying some attention to that.

I think it is a glitch. Something always turns white in the final battle with me. In my first run with Templar Carver, it was Carver's hair, and both Meredith and Orsino's entire bodies. Meredith's red eyes were also floating out in front of her cheeks and the red in the lyrium sword was levitating in front of it. Hawke was having trouble taking her seriously. XD

Thanks for the video! I never want to let Carver join the Templars again, he's just so much better as a Warden.

For once I wish they'd forgone choices and made Warden his canon. As it stands now he likely has too many variables to ever show up for more than a one-liner cameo. :crying:

Well, there's also the small thing that he's forced to be foresworn as a Templar if you side with the mages and he fights with you.

He's no longer a Templar and you have to either abet his lyrium addiction, or watch him go through withdrawals.

There is one if you side with the Templars.

Really? But wouldn't it be the same for Cullen as well?

Poor Carver - either he has to live with a lyrium addiction or with the Calling.

Cullen doesn't actually choose your side.  He's more trying to put a stop to Meredith.  Which isn't the same thing.  In the mage ending, all he does is put his sword down and back away.  Carver's actually WITH you.

Hmmm, it seems I'll have to play the mage ending again. I don't remember any substantial difference between how Cullen and Carver acted.

Eh, I think Cullen is a nice enough guy to let it go, personally.  Carver sides WITH Hawke about two seconds before Cullen sides against Meredith.  You're right, it's not technically the same thing, but I can't see Cullen turning to Carver after the battle and telling him to GTFO.  Cullen's too understanding for that.

yeah, but if Hawke didn't kill Anders... She will have to GTFO. Carver may be tarred by the same brush. All I'm saying.

You're right, Sia - that could indeed happen.

So, Carver's stuck with his brother/sister no matter what, huh?

Yeah, but Aveline's married in my games. And apparently another big sister. LOL.

Izzy would just break his heart. And Merrill's all unobsessed with her mirror by the time I get through with her. And Carver needs to take care of someone. Use those protective instincts on someone besides Hawke.

And I don't have a Warden for him, yet.
