****'s probably already married with a dozen brats. He's better off. ;)

My Hawke still wanted the chance to tease him about her.  Posted Image

You're right, though. Merrill does some the best (sanest?) choice. Which totally doesn't stop me from shipping Carver/Izzy.

I prefer Carver/Isabela to Carver/Merrill, personally. Merrill might be healthier after rivaling her, but I still wouldn't want her dating my little brother.

I'd prefer Carver come back and romance a hot Orlesian seeker PC, though. ::cough::

Oh, GOD, yes. I'd LOVE to have the chance to tease him about Peaches and The Blooming Rose and Merrill and Isabella....

I'm still bitter I didn't get the chance to hook Merrill up with Carver. Cutest most clueless couple ever.

yeah, but if Hawke didn't kill Anders... She will have to GTFO. Carver may be tarred by the same brush. All I'm saying.

In this playthrough my character sided with the mages and ran off with Anders.

As much as I hated Carver as a Templar, I roleplayed it in a way that while she respects Carver for finally standing up to Meredith, their relationship is basically beyond repair. He basically stopped being her brother when he became a templar.

And thats why I will always make Carver a warden in future playthroughs. Their relationship will never be the same but at least there is understanding. :wizard:

Does anyone know if there's a thread that has all the sibling appearances for each preset?  I know there were a few for the demo but that it was slightly different from the final version.

I dunno, but if you find the one with the long-haired Carver, let me know.

I love having warden Carver =) I just meet him in Act 2 and he seems to be much happier. Compared to warden Bethany I had on the previous Hawke Carver is pretty much joyful. Looking forward to seeing how it all turns out in the end! From what I've read here so far it seems to be pretty great. He is so much fun, just such a little brother. The letter he sends after becoming a warden seems to be written in a better mood than the one I read when he was a templar. Can't remember that specific letter but just a feeling. I can see how it how it feel better for him doing something he finds important and that he get's to do it himself. Not having to run around after his big sis all the time.
Guess that I'm looking at it from my own experience of being a big sister with a little brother. When we both left home everything got much better and now I would say he is one of my best friends. If anyone had said that to me when we were still at home arguing about stupid things I would have thought that they were joking =)

So... I made him a Templar. Went to the Deep Roads and told him to watch after mother.

The irony won't be lost on Anna that he watched mother rather better than she did after he left. Considering "All That Remains."

And to think that it'll be Gamlen of all people to tell him about Leandra's death.

Carver missed his true calling as some kind of caretaker of the elderly. :P

I just can't make him a templar anymore.  My Templar Carver playthrough felt so unsatisfying.  (Well, there were lots of reasons that particular playthrough was unsatisfying but Templar Carver certainly didn't help.)  It's strange, because I figured I'd prefer him as a templar since that puts him very poetically at odds with his mage sibling and technically gives him a more prominent position in the story.  But it just feels bleh.

I'm glad he was a templar the first time I played. I was unspoiled, couldn't get his friendship, so all the scenes between them were filled with tension and doubts if the relationship would ever be restored.

Post sibling death, Bethany is tired of needing your protection and Carver is tired of being the not needed protector to a more than capable person.
So, you know Bethany won't ever betray you because she had always needed Hawke and everything s/he (and the family) has done was for her good, and (even resenting you on the GW path) she knows this.
But Carver is different. He is the one making (in his eyes) the sacrifices, the unseen and unwanted protector. The one that failed. Because I don't think he really blames only Hawke, I think he blames himself for her death. Guilty on how he has chosen to protect mage Hawke instead of Bethany.

And after 6 years being so close to idol crazy Meredith, consuming lyrium like water...well, one lousy letter wasn't enough to know if he let all his darks feeling consume him or not.
So, I didn't knew if I would have to kill him by siding with the mages, I was really afraid I would but I couldn't condemn the circle just to avoid his death. The epic scene in the end is one of my favorite moments in the game but I can't let him be a templar again just for that.

Same here.  I'm really glad I did some stuff like leaving him behind, and the Anders romance, on my first playthrough.  It's not the same once you know what will happen.  It was like what you said about templar Carver for me too.  I was really afraid I was going to have to kill him at the end, especially after what happens to the rest of your family in the game.  I was almost biting my nails and pleading with the screen to not make Hawke have to kill her brother.  =P

Hmm.. I have never managed to get Carver up to full rivalry. Is there a difference in the end if you do that? I ran into warden Carver in low town on the way to the gallows but I couldn't talk to him or anything. Perhaps it was bugged, he just stod there. Not the end of the world if was, I guess I'll just get it on the next mage-round. He seems happier as a warden =)

Yes, I get that bug whenever I try to loot stuff instead of running straight into the trigger point.  If I trigger the cutscene first, then loot stuff, I'm fine.

I really wish there was a way to choose your Carver's appearance if you use custom presets. I really dislike the look of him on my current Hawke. :-(

Do you have the Black Emporium? You could always start with the default preset and then change your Hawke's appearance with the Mirror of Transformation once you've reached Kirkwall. (:

If you're on pc I use the mod Chargen Revamp (nexus) to keep the family default, always.

I apologize if this question has been discussed before--I back read a bit and didn't see it.

I just finished a playthrough where Carver was a warden. I ended up siding with the Templars, even though I was a mage (long story) and when I ran into Carver - he was angry that I was siding with the Templars "against my own kind". He quickly overcame this and fought by my side, but I thought that was a strange and inexplicable development for the character.

Why would Carver, who had always been pro-Templar in the past, suddenly take offense to this? It floored me slightly, and I'd like to hear others' insights.

I think it's about him not really knowing who s/he was anymore. I mean, come on. If you had an older sibling that you loved and just happened to be a mage, could you really picture them supporting an option to kill all of the mages in the surrounding area (whether they were innocent or not)? Seems rather self-defeating to me. It would also put said sibling in a lot of danger; who's to say that the 'kill all mages' edict would not apply to him/her after the official battle was over?

Carver loves his family and is likely baffled at his sister/brother supporting an option that could very well lead to his/her death.

You got Carver!   =)   did you by any chance meet him in low town on the way to the Gallows. wondering if I have to replay the endgame of my last Hawke so that she can pick up Carver again. My Hawke meet him there but he was just standing there and there was no way for me to initiate a conversation with him. Feelt so sad to just leave him...

Well, he hasn't seen Hawke for many many years. Perhaps he wasn't ready for this change, he must have thought that a mage Hawke would support the mages. Carver can always find something annoying about older sibling Hawke    Posted Image
