When You press "V" for voice commands, the keystrokes indicated will get you the commands to use. I think to drag them to your hotbar, you have to right click on your lead character and follow the options to bring up the commands list. Once that is done, don't actually select the command to use, but click and hold then drag it to your hotbar. I'm not sure if that's completely correct, I am not near my gaming computer at the moment. I'll check a bit later if someone doesn't beat me to it.

I'm not sure I understand what you are doing, so here is a more detailed explanation. Don't use the chat window, just type "v". This will bring up a box on the main screen with a list of commands and little icons next to them. Typing "w" for combat, or left-clicking on the word, will bring up another layer of commands, including "attack", "hold" and "guard".To add any of them to the quickbar, left click and hold on the icon, then drag it to the quickbar. Similarly, typing "e" in the first box will bring up the exploration menu, where you can find the "follow me" icon. Typing "v" again closes the box. You can do this separately for each party member if you wish. I usually add them for my PC and any party member I think I might want to have leading the party. I hope this helps. Using these icons in the quickbar really makes party control much easier, because clicking on an icon in the quickbar of any character sends the command to the entire party.

Edit (to try to avoid language differences): when I say chat window, I mean the box at the lower left that gives you game information. By typing "enter" you can open a special line there that is used mostly in multiplayer to talk to other players (and by a few modules to enter text commands). Don't use that. The box that opens on the main screen by typing "v" is, confusingly, called "Quick Chat" in the English version. I don't know what these quick chat commands do in multiplayer because I've never done it (low bandwidth, lack of interest), but I think they are used to communicate quickly with other players by typing a simple string of letters (i.e. vwe=attack, vee=follow me). As far as I can find, none of this is covered in the manual.

What Sieben says is correct. It sounds like you pressed "v" and then tried to drag "combat" or "exploration". Those icons don't move. You have to actually open the "combat" and "exploration" menus first. The icons within the submenus DO move. There are quite a lot of commands to choose from. The important ones are "hold", "attack", "guard" under "combat", and "follow" under "exploration". If you find more of them useful, go for it.

I also keep the ones I think are important in the quickbars of every party member, especially Neeshka. When I click her to disarm a trap sometimes, I immediately click "hold" in her quickbar - otherwise the other party members, including me, very irritatingly run right over the trap and/or traps before she can get the first one disarmed!

I don't think it's a spoiler to say that there's a place in the main crypt in the graveyard outside Forte Locke where the "hold" command is critical, because the traps in a certain hallway are fatal, and the monsters in the rooms on the other side make the whole party go running right into them if they're in attack or guard mode.
Before I learned to use the "hold" command, everybody in my party but Neeshka would always commit suicide here, leaving me screaming "NO!" and pulling my hair out! Image IPB

Another way around that is to set Neeshka's AI to Automatically Remove Traps and Open Doors - combined with Always Be Stealthy if you please.  Then when she starts moving away from the party, let her go.

As for that hall, if it's the one I'm thinking of, it always takes a MUCH higher toll on the skeletal population than my characters.

@Belgarath: Ok, I am confused. Are you saying that I have to press V, then again press one of the icon in the panel that pops up and finally take the icons in the submenus and pull them in the quick launch bar. Is it correct?

I shared your sense of frustration in that crypt... I was screaming against Kelgar, asking what he has in his mind, for running across a trap that was not only highlighted in red, but also half disarmed -_-'

No telling when Belgarath may reappear, but you are correct.

I don't know about Belgarath, but I give up. I spent 30 years trying to teach college students who didn't listen and don't need to do it in retirement. Y'all have a nice life.

Thanks for the assist I_Raps.

Sorry you're frustrated with us or maybe just over it, Sieben. I think Vaalyah might be speaking English as a second language. Didn't you say you were Italian, Vaalyah?

Anyway, yeah, press "V", click on "Combat", click and hold on the icon next to "Attack", drag it to the quickbar. I don't know how to say it any more simply or clearly.
I hope it works for you, now, Vaalyah. Image IPB

Not you, Sir. As you, I am happy to help people who have questions about the game, first, second and third time. Read the whole thread and the other thread I linked and perhaps you will see my point of view. Enough said, or PM me.

Guys, I am sorry for making you stressed with my stupid questions, but please, take into consideration that when I go to my game and follow your steps, I don't get the same feedback as yours. I don't see the same commands, I don't see the same names, and I don't see even the same bars! So I have to try to adapt what you said with what I see. And it's not easy at all :-(

Last time I clicked on the "combat" icon, I simply didn't get the sub-menu. So, things are 2: a game bug or I have misunderstood something. Having the game fully patched, I simply supposed to have misunderstood your words. I am trying again with that menu right now. Hope it works.

And sorry for my stupid questions. I didn't mean to offend anyone! :-(

I haven't read the entire thread, so sorry if it's been already mentioned, but you don't need to put the commands in the hotbar to be able to use them. Simply typing the right keys will do the same. For example, for "attack nearest", type in this order: v,w,e.

I've just tried and I finally was able to put those icons in my quick bar. The problem was that I was opening the sub-menus with a double-click. Thank you Arkalezth for your suggestion, but to say the truth, I would surely forget the right keys to press for saying the command, with the result that, for sure, I would order to my crew to stand still when we are surrounded by enemies :-D

It's easier if you put them in the hotbar, but just so you know, you don't need to memorize anything. You type V, and you'll see "W: combat", "E: exploration", etc. You type W, you'll see "E: attack nearest".

I was just going to comment on that very thing. I don't drag to my hotbar anymore, only because I have an 'odd way' of remembering things by touch. I use the letter keys and sort of kinesthetically (body or physical memory) remember the order and strokes of keys my fingers do. It becomes automatic and I honestly couldn't tell you which keys in which order I tap, but when arrows and spells are flying and my party members are doing stupid things, my fingers just fly to the correct keys all by themselves.

So for me, while intellectually it's easier to click them off the hot bar, my fingers are automatically much faster than my mouse hand and click ability while looking for the appropriate icon.

I learned to touch type on a keyboard by playing games that use keyboard controls -- and that's the sincere truth.

Same here. I'm used to have spells, feats and items in the hotbar, and I only use one normally, so I use the letters for the commands, too.

I don't use the quickbar too, to say the truth. I use that only for my party. I loaded the ranged weapon and the melee one, so I can easily make them switch between them by pressing their bar. But the spell bar is incredibly useful. A HUGE step forward, if compared to the NWN1 way of casting spells, with all the submenus around the character :-P

I liked the hotbars of NWN 1 too. There were only 3, but honestly, who needs 10? Using shift and Ctrl to change the hotbar was faster IMO.

I found it limiting in nwn1 since i often had more than 30 things, but then isn't this a taste issue.

Since i can customize the hotbars so much more it's a bit of a non issue - my current version i use i like better than what was in NWN1 or NWN2.

I don't like the NWN1 version as much as the NWN2 version, in part because I don't use a keyboard to play, only a mouse. With NWN2, I can have four quickbars full of spells and other functions on screen at all times.

With NWN1, I can only have one quickbar at a time on screen, causing me to have to give up a programmable mouse button to either shift or control. I only have two programmable buttons on my mouse, and one of them has to go to space. This problem effectively limits me to only two quickbars in NWN1. I'd much rather have four. And no, I'm not going to click on little arrows or reach for a key on the keyboard, which would defeat the whole purpose of a "quick" bar for me.

I mean the hotbar with the numbers, in the lower part of the screen by default. There are 10 of them, but I find faster keep pressing ctrl/shift+number, than changing bar(s), then number. I'm only talking about speed here, and that specific bar. Not related with fast casting bar or others.

you still can hit function keys on the first 10 items.

Like everything change means one step backwards and two steps forwards. There was some utility to how it was before which was lost, but i see a lot of gains in allowing each player to make things how they want. Fortunately we can still play nwn1 and also play nwn2.

I know, I simply like key shortcuts instead of mouse clicks. The personalization options in NWN2 are obviously better.

I have a couple AI question, I'll post them here, I don't think a new thread is needed.

I have Tony K's AI installed.

I'm playing a module and I have a Warlock/Barbarian in my party (odd mix, I know). My desired strategy for him is: cast buffs first, then engage in combat and fight with a melee weapon. No blasts. I have things like "Melee Attacks for Party" activated, but it still uses blasts sometimes. Yes, only sometimes.

I also have a Monk/Druid in the same party. I want him to use Flurry of Blows all the time, but he keeps deactivating it and activating Defensive Casting instead.

Is there any way to make them function as I want without having to micromanage them?
