Are you creeped out by the option to call your LI up to snuggle/sit on your lap?

This cropped up in another thread on the general forum, and a number of posters agree that they (myself included) think it's unnatural that you get to call your LI via the intercom to your quarters, and basically manipulate them to sit on your lap or snuggle on the bed with you. I remember trying it on my first playthrough, and then shutting down the game and in 4 playthroughs I've never done it again. It disturbed me that much.

Edit: Since I didn't make myself clear. I felt it was unnatural in the way that they don't speak, you basically order them to sit on your lap or cuddle. And some of the postures and models just look plain weird somehow. This has nothing to do with moral values whatsoever.

Does anyone else feel that way? I made a poll as well hoping to see what people's opinions are on this matter.

Any particular reason why it bothers you?

I was, yes. I guess I'll copy the post I made in that other thread to explain why.

For me I think its because you're pressing buttons to make them "do stuff". It kind of feels like a porn game, even if the actions seem pretty innocent. The romance cutscenes are just like watching a movie and don't make you feel like a total perv...Also there's the fact that they don't say anything.

............What? Wow.

OP i have no idea what you're talking about, shepard and his LI are having a hug for godsake. As if the game isn't tamed enough, now people think cuddling is inappropriate? I guess fox news was right.

I can't bring myself to do it. For me, it's just too hokey, but that's just my opinion of course.

If it was thrown in there for people to get their jollies, yeah that's creepy. But look at it from Shep's POV. You just completed the impossible so you decide to spend a little alone time with that special someone. No big deal.

I'm gonna have to agree with Gibb. You guys have seriously never done this with a girlfriend/boyfriend? I used to do this kind of thing with mine all the time.

Honestly, this is like Fox News overreaction status. It is a game mechanic, nothing happens in software without input.

Stop seeing something that isn't there.

When was it said that it's inappropriate? It's the nature of the scene that bothers me. Basically as Raokin says, they don't say a single word and you just order them to cuddle with you, to sit on your lap. It feels like manipulating a blow-up doll to me. What has that got to do with sexual morals?

Yes, it kinda bothers me a bit, not because I think the option is bad, but because it just looks too awkward, wrong side of the uncanny valley I guess...

The fact that all animations are shared for all characters doesn't help.

I don't think it's too inappropriate at all and I'm not suggesting that it be taken out of the game. I just found it really weird an uncomfortable in a way that I didn't with the regular romance scenes.

I hate how the game doesn't acknowledge the romance after the sex scene. It's like it didn't happen.

This was an appreciated thing they tossed in that sort of says yes, this happened, you have a relationship.

Its only problem is that it's sort of meaningless. They don't speak. The scenes aren't unique, poses are the same no matter the LI, draining them of value. They can look kind of awkward.

I'd still rather have cuddling than no cuddling.

Not a lot of snugglers here I guess. Very sad.

An uh, yeah-- that too. Hurrah for plagiarism.

I have nothing against cuddling. It's just the way it was executed, the fact that you were controlling everything...in silence. I half expected to see "press f to grab Thane's crotch" at the end there.

Ummm? What are you? Autistic? Insecure?

How the hell does a hug creep you out? That crap is for five year olds.

Context is everything, DeathsHands. Perhaps it was more creepy with Thane than human LIs; I've only ever seen his.

Maybe you shouldn't think of it like "you're pushing a button and making them do things".

When you shift between positions I sort of just see it like fastforwarding to a different point in that evening.

Sort of like when you give Chakwas the brandy and it skips to you and her mid-conversation over drinks.

Anyone else confused by this plagiarism reference?

It could do with a little work, I guess, but I don't find anything hugely objectionable about it.

The only thing that "creeps me out" about the whole thing is the "sit on the lap" animations. For a manshep, the LI sits on his lap and is animated as if she's talking, while he STARES intensely into her face like he's about to slap her lol.

They could at least have given him a grin or something.

Creepy? Kinda. Maybe it is just because Shepard has a galaxy to save instead?

Oh God no. Please, BioWare, no grins. Shepard should never grin.

I'm confused, what is the topic? The stiff animation and how the cuddling looks like two androids doing it? Or the fact that the commander snips his finger whenever (s)he pleases and the LI comes running?

Anyway in both cases i think there are other areas of the game that are more weird than this. I'm sure there is a better way to handle the LI "endgame" but they tried to do as good as possible within the limitations i guess.

I think it's really a minor thing.

Because I just appropriated your sentiment for myself instead of mustering an original thought of my own. So it was an ironic "hurrah for plagiarism".
