I'm working on changeing the lighting in the city gates level. Did pathfinding. That worked, no errors. Rendered lightmaps. No errors. Tried to export posts to local:
Export Sanity Check-->No lightmaps found. Using legacy non-atlased lightmap data instead.
Thought it might be a probe issue, so I rendered that separately for the cached scene. Nope, same thing. Added a new probe. Nope, same thing. Decided to try posting to single player instead of my mod in case there was an issue there. Nope, same thing.
Argh!
So....what's going on, anyone know?

From the wording it looks like its not actually an error, more a warning. Atlased textures just speed up rendering, but they aren't required (theoretically anyway) and it says its using non-atlasted data so it should still work. There SHOULD be an atlas though. There should be a bunch of folders with long random names in one of your overrides (not the main one, probably the one in your documents or users folder). Deleting those and trying again may fix the issue.

EDIT: Just so you know, the lightmapper has many random errors and bugs and leaves behind junk which confuses itself later on. Somewhere on these boards is a bat file which should delete all the crap the lightmapper leaves behind. I've heard that works wonders. (sorry I can't tell you exactly where but I'm sure someone who knows will post here).

Heh, confuses me, too! I've had weird lightmap issues on interior levels, but this is the first I've had with an exterior, and it's so different, I didn't think that it might be residual crap lying around. Thanks! Is this the tool you were talking about?:

Did you try saving the level file and cycling the display lightmaps button on and off before posting to local?

I probably didn't. That's something else to check. I ended up adding Denerim at night from Leliana's Song to the toolset and using that instead. Sometime when I have the time, I'll go back and see if that was the problem. It was probably something really minor and silly like that, because it's never happened before, and clearing the old lightmaps didn't work.

So I've been banging my head trying to figure this out for awhile and I finally figured out the problem.

There has to be an object placed on your map that generates a shadow for the lightmap to be created. If you try making a blank area with no objects your attempt to export will fail each time.

I think a lot of people are having this issue because all they want to do is create a simple area map to experiment with. That said, this toolset sucks and i can't wait for the next elder scrolls.

That wasn't the problem for me. It was a full scene. I can't remember what the problem turned out to be. I must have figured it out, but I usually post the solution when I do, so I don't know. Looking back on this, I have no idea what the problem was. Now I'm wondering if I forgot to define the area or something like that.

I actually love this toolset now that I've gotten more familiar with it. It has a steep learning curve, but once you get some experience, there's absolutely nothing you can't do with it. It's far more powerful and versatile than the Elder Scrolls toolkits.
