Trailer reminds me more of FFVII than Dragon Age Origins. Sad.

Looking again at the trailer for the 4th time I feel it is more akin to a final fantasy game than to a "spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate"

Origins was the best.
Awakening killed it.
Witch Hunt spat at it.

Sigh.

It's not FF7 until a qunari gets a cannon-arm prosthesis.

Final Fantasy 7 was a CRPG?

small person carying a big sword.

hair style sticks in place even while fighting.

warrior plus mage in one.

power activated when character is cornered.

power too devastating - should have been used from the beginning saving time and effort in fighting

dragging sword on ground while attacking (who does that other than ****** characters)

I am afraid I must disagree. Whilst Origins was a 'true' old school rpg, awakening was also, in my opinion. Aside from the Sentinel armour not being fixed yet for consoles (unofficial fixes work fine but still) the only other issue was the lower amount of voicing, which Bioware have previously explained to be due to them having only so many hourse of voice acting available. Also, the Witch Hunt DLC was just that; a DLC. It was never going to have a great level of detail etc. Indeed, the only DLCs I've seen which were truly exceptional were the Fallout ones, excluding Operation: Anchorage.

I do feel that the trailer is representative of Dragon Age as a series; nice graphics and cinematics are simply representative of the time which clearly went into it, and are not indicative of Dragon Age moving away from its original standards as a world class rpg.

Furthermore, whilst I am not familar with the Final Fantasy lore, I was under the impression it was fairly futuristic in terms of its technology, so how exactly does this trailer remind you of it?

Almost all of those things are in Origins. I don't understand your issue.

Look up a 2h sword in real life.

hair style sticks in place even while fighting.

Same thing with Origins.

warrior plus mage in one.

Nope. Mages can melee now but not for huge damage.

power activated when character is cornered.
power too devastating - should have been used from the beginning saving time and effort in fighting
dragging sword on ground while attacking (who does that other than ****** characters)

Oh yes. The trailer should've been 5 seconds long and should've featured nothing visually appealing.

no issue really
I was hoping for a more relative version of Origins - more realistic vs flashy.

Oh. I guess that's understandable. I still don't get the comparison to FFVII though.

In regard to what you say about Hawke not using his 'power' until the end of the fight; that was blood magic and was used by Hawke obviously only after his standard magic failed, as anyone familiar with Origins is familiar with the inherent dangers in Blood Magic.

You can feasibly draw comparisons between DA and any game out there. You can also draw comparisons between FF7 and any game out there. In fact, when you boil elements down to the simplest level as you have, you can compare anything to anything.

Warriors + Mages is new? I guess Arcane Warrior was imaginary then.

Edit: Ooh that game above looks pretty fun!

Since the power is blood magic, and requires sacrificing his own life force, it's probably something he'd rather avoid if he can help it. Hence, only using it when desperate.

Indeed, even if Hawke isn't an Arcane Warrior, who's to say a mage is incapable of being able to defend himself physically?

Another thing: it's a trailer, of course it's going to be flashy and unrealistic. Just look at the Sacred Ashes trailer for Origins.

I understand that

if you look at the sacred ashes trailer it was more "realistic" in the sense that it took an entire team and tactics to bring down the dragon. from that trailer I knew that the game will involve tactics, careful planning, party members and the like. Plus the character designs were more "realistic" looking. The other trailer also put out the information that Dragon Age is all about the Grey Wardens (an organization not an individual) and what they fight for.

I don't remember reading or seeing this at all and I've seen every Dragon Age trailer.

I'm still not a fan of the huge swords. I hope all weapons aren't that way. I may find myself choosing weapons with aesthetics in mind instead of game play.
