Ambling through the dead trenches and can't help but be reminded of moria in the fellowship of the ring and the party's flight from the balrog, it occurs to me that my warden has never run away from any foe in any playthrough so I was just wondering if in DA2 we'll have some unbeatable odds that force us to flee and be pursued as if the archdemons horde had seen us in bownammar.

I hope not.

Unless that foe is a dire bunny.

Rubbish Hero?

It would be interesting. That sort off happens in the Tower of Ishal when Flemeth rescues you.

Might be a nice opportunity for one of your party to buy you time by scarificing themselves a la ME, that choice gave me pause.

Im surprised this isnt a Rubbish Hero thread, havnt seen him/her in a bit.
Anyway, the game starts with you running away from the Blight, so that sort of fits the description. Although I agree it would be cool if there was someone you stood no chance against and you could run away get more powerful and then come back and BEAT THEM TO DEATH!!!!
Or something like that

Lol,you are right, the whole Deep Roads actually reminded me of Mines of Moria, and idea of sacrificing and saving the rest of the party is quite interesting. From my experience,I saw much LOTR ressemblence in DA:O.Ostagar battle reminded me of Helms Deep, but with quite the oposite outcome in every aspect:
-Reinforcement that was supposed to come(Gandalf in LOTR which came) and Loghain in DA:O which didn't came.
-Battle was lost, instead of epic win like in LOTR.Image IPB

Also,Hurlocks greatly reminded me of Uruk Hai troops while Genlocks ressembled to Orcs.

That would make DA2 even more like LOTR but at least that would change up the pace a little.  The only time we were running away from the blight was when we got carried away from the blight by Flemeth, but then again we werent really in control.  But yes I would like to see some moments where we cant win, and have to run away and maybe we can have some npc's die in the process.

I would actually like this in more video games, that you can't win every fight and that picking and chosing your battles would be a part of gameplay... but I doubt it would ever be like that!

I don't know about y'all, but the first time I hit that gong on the mountain top I tried to get the hell outta there!

:)  It quite literally scared the crap out of me the first time I hit it and all of the sudden "Andraste" swooped  down upon us. I did not expect that to happen and about crapped myself.

Got to admit when I first entered the dead trenches and saw the Archie and chums cinematic knowing that the darkspawn could sense me my ringpiece went a bit vice like but everything turned out allright, shame really but the broodmother bit made up for it. Now if the spawn had chased you all the way to her den then suddenly stopped that would have been atmospheric, a quick sigh of relief before hespiths voice and the screaming started again.

Dire Bunnies can only be killed by the Sword of Truthiness.
Or a Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.

A fleeing Hawke seems like the perfect way to ruin your future hero status but if it will net you more approval from companions i´m all for it.

It would be interesting but somehow I see that as something that would more likely happen in mass effect that dragon age. I have no clue why.

Yeah trench run on Ilos and the whole suicide mission thing, but big mike says they're going for a bit more action on DA2 so i'm holding out hope for more dynamic situations. I want to be sir Robin.

I get sick of the whole "I CAN BEAT ANYTHING" hero. Don't get me wrong, I want to be the hero who saves the day. But I don't want to be Chuck Norris. Maybe for Boss fights Bioware could design some cool tricks to kill bosses (Ballista's and the Archdemon).

I spent hours scouring the net trying to find a legit away not to sacrifice one of them. That decision pissed me off, still does.

I love a good laugh. So if running away Sir Robin style, like blothulfur said, from some gnarly, completely unbeatable beast the size of a mountain can happen I'm all for it. I can just imagine how it would go.

Hawke: Makers breath! Look at the size of it! Varric! What should we do?
Varric: You wait here! I'm going to go and get help!

I never seem to be able to beat Ser Cauthrien at Howe's estate and have to break out of prison, does that count?

I did a fair amount of running away in SC2 on a certain mission. :P It was a bit annoying actually, especially since laying down a certain item in the right place was sort of difficult. That being said, it was fairly amusing ultimately (despite the aforementioned comment about it being a bit annoying - edited to add this in! :P )..

Cautherien is a good fight when trying to free Anora, I find 2 mages pulling CC and debuffs on anyone not locked down or slowed saves me the trip to prison. Although the prison trips are kinda worth it for the companion rescue sitcom-style antics alone.

But yes, I do want the option to "escape" fights and have it impact the game later on in time. Maybe running away makes a companion pissed off, or maybe the foe you were confronting later becomes a companion, etc etc.

Gandalf: Fly you fools! ...Get it? Because your last name is "Hawke"? Hehehe...

Hawke: *punts Gandalf off the ledge*
