Arc projector is the superior weapon imo, works even in collector missions.

I have done a few of plays through the game where I did not use the Cain, because I wanted to prove to myself that I could take down, say, the Thresher Maw without it. But having proven to myself (at least as a soldier, infiltrator, and adept) that I can do it, I now only every carry the Cain once I get it (thanks to Zaeed's mission, I have it from the first recruitment), and use it to make the game play through a bit faster.

However, there are some fights that it simply takes the fun out of. The final boss in Overlord is a good example. One Cain shot trivializes what should be (and is, if done with normal weapons) a fairly epic fight. I've never tried in LotSB, but I'm willing to bet that (if it doesn't blow you up during the boss fights) it trivializes them as well.

I always play overlord just before the Reaper IFF, and the first time I played it { the last fight } ( insanity ) it seemed impossible.  I used AR + Widow with Inferno ammo, and just could not take down the armor fast enough.  Also used mattock.  Next 3 attempts:  avalanche ( no ), Arc Projector ( no ),  then Cain - took it down to just a sliver of armor left.  Then thing that makes that tough is that after each time the shields comes back up, more geth respawn.

Also about the heavy weapon ammo replenshing after each mission when you have 5/5 or 6/6 heavy upgrades - not sure if that is true, but it would explain why sometimes on the N7 missions the ammo is refreshed - I thought it was a bug, but maybe it is supposed to be that way?

I used to not use Cain at all (after I killed myself the first time) then I learn that after heavy-ammo upgrade 5~6 it automatically replenishes heavy weapon ammos after missions. Since then XD I am using it every mission; especially the last kill for the mission - doesnt matter what the target is - just for fun ^_^ and it is a lot of fun!

say what, i really don't use heavy weapons that much and have never notice that, i have to see if this works.

I've used it on that mission with the crates and the mechs, because you need to take those mechs down as soon as possible. As a rule, though, I prefer sniping to pretty much anything else.

I only use it on the mission with the crates and the mechs. :-) Otherwise, I prefer the arc projector or the collector particle beam. Plus, you know, the widow, which is like a heavy weapon in itself...

I got the 5 heavy weapon upgrades very early and when you have the those 5 upgrades your heavy ammo refills every mission. There is nothing like Nuking the Thresher Maw then getting to Samara by nuking that hallway filled with Mechs and Eclipse, 8 minutes later.

I find the Cain to be the least versatile heavy weapon. Others have mentioned using it against the Reaper core--something which I never thought of---but beyond that, I see no reason why I should even spend resources on building the weapon. I much prefer the Arc Projector; it's excellent at crowd control, tearing down barriers and health, and stunning enemies when things get nasty.

I use it 4 times - both Praetorians, the Colosus, and the Derelict Reaper mass effect core

I used it on my Insanity run to One shot the Reaper Core.

Otherwise it was the ML-77 or the Arc Projector.

I used it a few days ago to take out the husk boss since I don't like that fight, I guess that's what it's for.

I'm not responsible enough of a shooter to use the cain, so I don't Image IPB

I didn't know about the auto-filling HW ammo though, so I might start using the cain soon.

I only used it twice. Once was on a side mission and I used it on the wall across from me to test it out. I almost killed myself. The second time was after I beat the game I was playing LotSB. I used it on a couple guys in the tower just to get the achievement. I haven't used it anymore after that.

This did NOT work for me.   I have 5 upgrades ( the one from Zaeed mission, don't have upgrade from Zada Ban ).  I had 150 percent filled up, used cain on Ymir mech at the of Jacob loyality.  When I got back to Normandy nothing changed.  Had to do two missions to fill it back up.  I play xbox on insanity.  I don't know what affects this, because I have seen the heavy ammo refil sometimes ( I remember that it did last time I did Overlord  on a previous playthrough when I had 6 of 6 ), but I don't think its in the design, and probably a glitch.

With the auto filling heavy weapon ammo, I think it's attached to the weapon kiosks inside missions. If I change my weapon load out at the beginning of a mission or on the Normandy, it doesn't seem to affect my ammo at all, but if I use one inside a mission (because I picked up a weapon that I didn't want to use, etc.) then it tends to refill all of my ammo, heavy included. But I'm not even sure of that. Sometimes I just have full heavy weapon ammo for seemingly no reason, and sometimes I don't. So I'm definitely leaning toward it being a glitch.

Normally I use the Cain on about the 4th reload of a fight that is giving me hell for w/e reason.

As with others here, I really only use Cain on the reaper core and only because I get tired of running circles around the platform with husks. It's pretty much reserved for ending boss fights that I'm tired of fighting as it's too powerful and ammo limited to be used/wasted anywhere else.

I don't use it against the terminator, though. First time I did was also the last time... Used to use it on the containers mission to kill all the ymir's. Now, I use the other single mission weapon in the arsenal: the missile launcher.

Heavy weapons are great, though. It's just that ME2 would have to be fundamentally altered to make them more just passing notions.

The Cain scares me because it killed me too often. So I generally stick with the Collector beam.

mostly i use it to 'skip' past some boss fights. sometimes i really don't feel like taking them on, just want to get to more interesting missions.

nevertheless, it's pretty rare. in fact, using heavy weapons is pretty rare.

in fact, i don't even use it on the oculus, even when the squadmates keep saying we need heavy weapons to take it down. in my first runs i wanted to spare ammo because i was about to enter the collector home base, i didn't know what i'd find (yes, i known the cargo hold's filled with heavy-weapon ammo, but it didn't matter). now i'm too used to not using heavy weapons to use them without very conscious and deliberate decisions -- like, let me try the cain on this guy and equip it with the sole purpose of using it on the, say, scions on horizon or something like that.

if i recall well, there's a loading-screen tip that says 'use heavy weapons sparingly because you never known what's around the next corner' -- something like that. i probably took it too literally...

I only use the Cain on the Reaper IFF core, and sometimes on Ahnold. I miss alot with the Cain on Terminator, maybe hit 2 out of the 4 times I've tried to use it, so I'm actually looking to go with something different this time. This current run thru (when I get done with ME1 for this guy) is going to be a soldier. We'll see how quickly AR + Mattock + Widow chews thru Baby Reaper's tender bits.

Mostly, I don't use heavy weapons too much, just carry around the Grenade launcher.  It looks the best, IMO, and is pretty useful in most situations when I feel like switching it up.

can you tell me what i am missing besides the huge explosion.

1 hit-kill annoying bosses like the Reaper core, or David (Overlord).

Cain worths it's weigth in gold only for that. And that's only one of many reasons.

The rest of the time I use the Arc Projector. 2-3 shots, and I can bring a squad of 5 people to it's knees.

I have to disagree. The Cain is an every day shooter that is merely ammunition challenged.

I'd never use a shotgun again if I could pick up enough rounds to get 3 shots every few seconds.

Lol, j/k :)
