I've been using it on my new playthrough as a Soldier (Insanity), and I gotta say, I'm doing really well with it. I play pretty upfront, but still I've always disregarded the Katana for the Eviscerator until now. I thought was success was just a fluke, so I went back to the m-22, and found myself doing much worse. I'm finding that the slightly higher ROF (only like 10 shots a minute) is actually better than the Eviscerator's 1.5 damage and that I can usually cause way more damage with it. I'm just throwing this out there to see if there are other people who might've noticed this.

The Katana is somewhat disregarded because most people first try it on Freedom's Progress, which heavily disfavors shotguns.

If you're finding the higher RoF of the Katana making any difference than you may be best served trying out the Scimitar. It can manage about two shots in the same amount of time the Katana can manage one, and if you're at close range those two shots equate to a hell of a lot more damage :D

I thought it was somewhat disregarded on the basis that there is a better shotgun for every situation.... including situations where you need a balance of RoF/damage/clip...

*facepalm* Yeah, upgrades later in the game, you know?  I've never even THOUGHT about that until now. Image IPB

Why you are so close it's smart to use the shotgun and you're on insanity I'll never know.

Cause it's not all that hard to make effective use of shotguns on insanity?

Actually I'm using it on my current vanguard insanity playthrough ( xbox ) until I get the Scimitir. It works better for me than Evi or Geth shotgun. The Geth gun hits harder and can use a charged shot, but its awkward to use because of the slight delay - I can't get used to it. The Evi is too slow for me ( I don't get headshots very often ). I've never used it other than FP, but I'm at Horizon now and its still working ok.

And how can you not love that beautiful sound it produces?

The Katana is not bad -- actually I feel that all shotguns are pretty equal -- although I use Evi the most...

I like them all except the GPS. I think I have sticky fingers, it maybe why I experience "delay" with GPS - the GPS only fires when I release the mouse button (cos holding the button leads to charging) while other shotguns fire as soon as I push the mouse button down.

Katana is good but i am addicted to the Claymore shotgun.

( I dont care if Claymore shotgun is somewhat slow, you hear a BooM youre enemy is dead and thats enough for me).

Its because I'm a MLG-Pro 1337. Seriously though, Garrus as sqaudmate and Dominate as the bonus power, you can cause a lot of damage.

1. Nice name :)

2. I tried the Claymore, but I could get in enough shots fast enough. True its a one-hit kill, but you can fire two shots, and potentially kill two enemies in the time it takes to kill one witht the Claymore

Katana shotgun is a good weapon, but I'm more of M-22 Eviscerator it is small but very powerful.

I don't like the Katana, preferring the Scimitar. I like the 'feel' of the latter more. The Katana isn't a bad starting shotty, though.

Evi all the way the katana and the scimitar are too weak in my opinion, also the evi is good for armor unlike the katana and the scimitar.

I can sort of understand choosing the katana over the eviscerator; it's not a choice I would make, but they have different strengths. But the scimitar beats the katana at pretty much everything (not single shot damage, but you'll want the evi for that).

Yes, scimitar is better, that is why my vanguard does Samara Recruitment right after Horizon.  Before that katana works fine.  The real irritating thing ( about any shotgun ) is that ammo is a problem until you get the three shotgun upgrades that double the ammo.

I'm not sure it makes sense to brand the Scimitar as 'weak'. In the same amount of time it takes for a Evis to have fired a shot and ready for another, it'll have done about 110% of the damage with better crowd control and less effect on it's ammo reserves.

Not really, when you Charge (and have a shot(s) available, obviously), you fire immedietaly, so at t=0s, Evi did more damage. At t=1.25s, you have 2 Evi shots vs 3 Scimitar shots, Evi leads. At t=2.5s you have 3 Evi shots and 5 Scmitar, Evi is still in the lead. Then Scimitar takes over, barely.
With Evi you have more time to get to melee range (1.25s vs 0.6-8s Scimitar) for maximum damage and more time to aim. But Scimitar is better stunner and much more forgiving weapon. But on the other hand it is very weak in damage per shot category, which is something not everyone enjoys. Personally, I hate the low damage per shot, so I use Claymore for Vanguards (because OSOK never gets old for me) and Evi for other classes like Sentinel.
