I've been looking through the toolkit, trying to figure this out, but as the last time I tried editting anything I almost irrevocably broke my game (required 3 full reinstalls), I'm hesitant to extract/edit any files.
I'm attempting to make helmets, hoods, etc. invisible for the PC's party only, much like in cutscenes and dialogue. I know there's a way to make the model invisible, which would disable helmets for ALL characters in the game, but I want to keep helmets on the NPCs. Has anyone found the script/variable in the toolset that determines when a helmet is visible and when it is hidden?

I would love a mod to toggle this. Mage hats look stupid.

From my tests, you can't because if something flagged as a helmet is equipped, the engine nukes their hair and you just get someone missing half their head.

I'm sick of ugly helmets as well, I spent such a long time working on my hair and now I have to choose between looking good and the practicality of a helmet...
I don't think it makes sense to wear a helmet except where combat is likely anyway.

So the answer, then, is to hunt down the "helmet equipped" script and disable it, therefore disabling the removal of hair. Might make certain characters look a bit wonky but it's at least a start until it could be isolated for the party, if we can find the script to begin with.

Hope that this does go somewhere personally, I kinda spent a lot of time modifying my character to just have it covered up with a helmet.

Something like that is most likely in the engine, not a script.

I suspect that's something we're going to have to beg to be added to the engine.

I think what you guys are asking for is a bit unrealistic...
BW, you can leave massive helms alone, they look cool...Hope that makes makes this request more reasonable.
off the record, I'm kind of surprised the option didn't exist to begin with.

I'm fine with you thinking this request is unrealistic, LegendaryIII. I just don't know why you think that, other than just wanting a point to contest.
I think hiding the helmets is a realistic goal. And if it cannot be done by players, then it is a realistic request for the game DEVs.

If any MMO can do it, then DA can do it. If you can't do it via modding then we should pester Bioware until they capitulate.

disabling helmet graphic doesn't work. I modified my current helmet to have no graphic and while the helm doesn't have a graphic it does disable hair still
Will continue searching for a way to get this to work

It is probably possible to make it. You need to use the script who remove helmets when a custscene/dialogue is playing.

The cutscene script doesn't hide the helmets, it removes them.
