3 AM. Going on nothing but adrenaline. Everything was pretty fuzzy.

"What, sending people off on their own for dangerous things? Ah bluh. Okay, Garrus, Tali: You were there when we took down Sovereign. I trust you two more than anyone. I know you'll get the job done. Jacob, you stay the **** here, I don't need you getting us all killed."

*Doesn't bother to read anything*

"Alright Garrus, in the tunnel with you. There won't be anything in there you can't handle."

*Still doesn't bother to read anything*

"Tali, I'm sticking you with the other team. With them guarding you, that'll make sure you're perfectly safe."

"What? Shut up, Miranda. It wasn't her fault a billion Geth came out of nowhere. Let's do this."

*Fast-forward to end of first section*

"Alright, ****ing things tried to kill Garrus, but we're in the clear now. Just close those goddamn doors already. What the hell? Get behind the doors, god dammit! .... Garrus? Garrus!? No..."

*Heart drops to my stomach, and all the blood exits my appendages*

"Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. I think I'm going to be sick."

*Continuing, myself now thoroughly stupified and scarcely functioning*

"What, splitting up? God dammit. Who is going to get killed this time?" (Understand that initially I suspect that you CANNOT get through without SOMEONE dying; By now I'm CERTAIN you can't get through without people dying, and now I'm just trying to figure out how to make sure it's me or Zaeed next.)

"Okay, okay... Samara, you're all super-biotic, so we should be fine. Tali, you stick with the other group, and for the love of god STAY BEHIND THEM!!!"

*Forward again to the chase as Samara is faltering under the strain*

"C'MON SAMARA, YOU CAN MAKE IT! JUST A LITTLE BIT FURTHER!"

"Yahoo!!"

"Okay, okay. Everything is fine. Garrus... *Nausea*... I can manage... I can manage..."

"Where's that other team? Get them in here, and get that goddamn door closed!"

"Ah, thank god, everything is..."

"Too many suite ruptures, can't..."

"T-Tali? TALI!?!? Oh god, no! No god, nooo!!"

*All blood drains from to my feet, overwhelming nausea, start to sob, then off to the bathroom to vomit, more crying, exit ME2*

*Scarred for life*

So yeah, that first experience...

Just another example of why it pays not to get fall into the early morning marathon-length session trap. Couldn't keep down food for nearly two weeks after that.

Edit: Oh and, eh, about "lack of hard choices", let me tell you: If you're going in blind and under the assumption that there is NO way that everyone is coming back... Trust me, EVERY choice is a hard choice.

For the record, for that first time... I went in psychologically prepared to have have myself, Zaeed, and Jacob not come back. In that order. Sorry boys, but that was the call I made. Don't think I made the decision lightly.

LOL! Nice story. That really happened for you? Must've been hard :D

Everyone lived, mostly because there were Fischer-Price level descriptions of things telling me who to use to people didn't catch the dead. I beat the thing with the widest smile on my face.

Then I made the mistake of playing the game a second time so I could start noticing things, the biggest regret of my life.

Had fully upgraded everything, and strangely enough, it was the only playthrough where I could get everyone loyal as well
- Send Tali into the Vents because I wanted Legion on my personal team and hadn't DLC-ed Kasumi yet
- Fireteam two got Miranda, mostly to p*** off Jack
- Used Samara as a biotic shield, finally seeing a use for her, Zaeed led second group
- Used Jack and Garrus as team partners for the second and third stage, mostly because I realized with an Infiltrator PC, I would want some AoE biotics for dealing with the husks. Of course Jack proved mostly useless against the Reaper, but caused same hilarity with the collectors flying off platforms
- Send Jacob home with the crew, finally finding a use for him as well. For once, he proved a solid choice.

Sidenote : Ran out ammunition due to the infiltrator's lowered load and problems keeping my aim on the eyes, plus having wasted some irreplacable heavy weapon ammo . "Incinerate" saved the day.

Nuked the base. Perfect score

-----

On my run-throughs ever since, I always pick Kasumi for vent-duty, since Tali's whining annoys me to no end, and Legion.... let's put it that way, I like Legion too much to shove him down a pipe^^

Picked Miranda once for shielding duty (based on the assumption that she is "designed to be perfect" as a biotic), leading to the loss of Garrus, who was the LI in that play-through as well. Thanks M-girl for your overexagerated opinion of yourself. ! Basically ,it made me redo the entire SM.

Tend to use Thane or Miranda on final team,Mordin was in once but proved less useful, if I don't have "Warp" or "Incinerate" on my own char, Zaeed or Garrus for basic firepower.

I had full loyalty and all ship upgrades so no problems there.  I had Garrus as leader both times and Tali in the vent.  Zaeed escorted crew (I had only done Legion's loyalty mission so the crew was all safe).  Samara did the bubble and I had Tali and Grunt go with me to final battle.  Everyone survived.  Now watching my brother do something similar and Mordin died for him.  As everyone knows Mordin is kind of finicky.

-Everyone recruited and loyal.(Didn't have Ksaumi DLC).

-Did all the N7 sidequest after Reaper IFF because I said to myself "Bioware wouldn't kill off the crew if they are suppose to be in ME3 and doing sidequest never seemed to make a difference in the main plot" boy was I wrong. And yes I cried when I saw the Yeoman and the crew die. Started a new playthrough as soon as I could of afford Kasumi.

-All ship upgrades.

-Tech Specialist: Legion (He can hack through anything.)

-Fire Team leader 1: Tali ( She was already familiar with leading.) Read that was stupid so reloaded save and picked Jacob cause Jack and Garrus don't like Miranda.

-Biotic Speciaist was Samara.

-Fire Team leader 2: Garrus.

-Crew Escort: Mordin

Final Battle: Garrus and I think Miranda

Collector Base:Kept.

Ending: All Squadmates alive, All crew except Chakwas deadPosted Image and TIM was sadly disconnectedPosted Image.

My first one:

Tech Expert: LEGION

Team 1: Tali for the Drones, Mordin for Incinerate.

Leader: Garrus.

Biotic Specialist:Samara

Escort: Mordin (STG experience)

Leader: Garrus!

Team 2: Miranda and Tali.

Final Team: Miranda and Tali.

Base: ESPLODED!, plus Miranda quit, which was awesome.

So in the end:

Crew: All Alive

Squad: All alive

Base: Blown to smithereens, and TIM told to STFU and GTFO.

Me: Happy and set for DLC and ME3.

I recruited everyone and got their loyalty.

I got all necessary ship upgrades and blazed through to the Collector base.

I figured Thane would be a good duct rat based on how he killed Nassana but used Legion instead at the last minute, as I felt he was just a machine and less important.

Garrus was the first team leader because I didn't want Jack rebelling on Miranda.

Miranda was the second team leader. Samara was the biotic specialist. Sadly, the entire crew died, save Chakwas because I waited too long to go through the relay, getting everyone's loyalty. I sent Zaeed to escort her to the ship. I believe I took Samara and Thane along to kill the human Reaper and I blew the ****in base.

I was proud because I made all the right choices with no research on the "right thing to do."

I had to reload the mission after Legion died, bad door choice. I still have my first playthrough saved game, doubt I will use it for the import though. I'm working on a better one now, every so often.

Well, I went into it with the idea that Tali and Garrus were coming out the other side alive, come hell or high water. So that ended up affecting my whole decision making process.

Got through to the base okay, since I bought all the upgrades. I took G/T with me since I still had a statement by Casey from way back during development on how at some point you might not be able to predict how things turn out, that in the end who survives might come down to who's with you and who's not.

I certainly contemplated the idea that the two being with Shepard might get one or both of them killed, but I silenced that thought because, well, I really didn't want to believe that.

Anyhow, I made Miranda the fire-team leader the first time. My first frack up was sending Mordin through the vents, since I didn't consider Legion, wanted to keep Tali with me, and nobody had even heard of Kasumi at that point. At least part of it was confusing game mechanics with lore, since I thought of how Mordin has nothing but tech powers.

So, yeah, he took a rocket to the face.

Knew Samara was a freakishly powerful biotic, being an Asari, and she brought up the idea, so I made her the specialist. Second frack up was making Legion the fire-team leader, and I honestly have no idea what I was thinking there.

I'd delayed going through the relay so I could mine more resources and get to lvl 30, so I lost everybody but Chakwas, who I sent back with Zaeed.

As I said before, Garrus and Tali were with me the whole time, so they went to the final battle while everybody else held the line. Truth be told, I don't know how I got out of that with no casualties since that only left Grunt behind as the big defensive stick, but everybody was loyal so I guess I scraped together enough points to ensure their survival.

The opportunity to save the base really threw me for a loop, and the main reason I blew it up was that Tali said it wasn't a good idea, and Shepard went, "...yes, dear." I kept it on my subsequent Insanity run with this Shepard (who is my canon).

So...yeah. Was really pissed that I lost Mordin and Legion, since they were my favorite and third-favorite new characters, respectively. I don't think I could have handled losing the turian and the quarian.

I remember mine!
- Everyone, except Kasumi (not released yet), recruited and loyal (worked things through with both Miranda and Jack and Tali and Legion).
- Legion's loyalty mission was the only mission I did before heading through the relay so the crew survived.
- All ship upgrades.
- Tech specialist: Legion (because he should be less susceptable to the heat). // Fire team leader 1: Garrus (selected as it seemed most logical).
- Biotic specialist: Samara. // Fire team leader 2: Garrus, again.
- Crew escort: Jacob, because I had no use for him on my own team and I figured he could lead them safely enough.
- Taken for the final battle: Mordin and Samara (if I remember correctly).
The results of my first playthough: Everybody survived, base exploded, Miranda fully on Team Shepard.

(edited for stupid super-spacing)

On my first playthrough:

Got all of the ship upgrades.
Everyone was loyal, except for Miranda. (picked the wrong damn dialogue option during the Jack confrontation)
Saved the entire Normandy crew.

Vents - Tali
Fire Team Leader - Miranda (both times)
Escort - Jacob
Biotic Bubble - Samara
Final Boss Fight - Garrus & Miranda

After it was all said & done, Shep lifts the debris off of Garrus - all good, does the same for Miranda - she dies.  Posted ImagePosted Image

At least I got to watch the base blow up in good fashion though.

Okay maybe I'll go into more detail about what I did and why I did it. So here we go.

Everyone was loyal and I waited to do the Reaper IFF after I finished everything else because I've played a lot of BioWare games and I know a plot point when I see it. I didn't do any missions in between the Collectors taking the crew and going through the relay so I didn't loose any of the crew (Chakwas, Kelly, etc).

Had the ship completely upgraded so I didn't loose anyone during the space battle and the subsequent landing.

Sent Tali through the vents because she kinda took over engineering in ME2 and in ME1 Engineer Adams said she was better than his guys and the a month on board she would know more about the Normandy's engines than he would. So yeah Tali was my tech specialist.

Picked Garrus as the team leader because if you talk to him about his team on Omega he says that they sought him out to join his "team" and that no civilian casualties was their rule. Also if you take Garrus to Haestrom he gives you tactical advise after you get the second set of explosives. I have a hard time believing that some of your team would be comfortable with Miranda being in charge. I know she can lead the teams just fine but it didn't feel right to me. So Miranda came with me because I didn't want her to think that I didn't have confidence in her abilities and I also wanted to keep her and Jack separated just in case. I also took Samara with me because I was playing and engineer and needed biotic support. Samara also happens to be my favorite of all the new characters introduced in ME2.

Samara was my biotic specialist because a) she's an Asari who has been using her biotics for over 600 years, B) she is the one that Shepard asks the question of and c) it was her idea. Sent Garrus as the fire team leader again for the same reason as before and took Miranda and... y'know I can't remember who else I took with me. I think it was Thane but I'm not sure it might have been Tali. Sent Jacob as the escort because I can imagine Jacob getting all acquainted with the crew (something I don't see Miranda doing sorry) and the crew trusting him.

When it came to decide who would go with me the final battle I was thinking that I would need to leave my toughest crew members there to "hold the line" and that would be Garrus and Grunt even though I wanted. Garrus is my favorite character. So I took Miranda (again to keep her and Jack separated. I trusted Tali and Legion not to cause problems, but for some reason I don't trust Jack to not have a stubborn moment if Miranda told her to do something and have Mordin die because of it. And before anybody gets all up in arms I like Jack a lot, but you have to admit she's a hot head.) and Samara with me in the final battle. I think it was Miranda who went over the edge and had me panicking like you would not believe.

Getting the No One Left Behind achievement on my first play-through gave me a warm fuzzy feelings. And gave me the impression that either I really know BioWare games or I'm not half bad at this whole tactics thing. Posted Image

This. I was so annoyed I redid the entire suicide mission again right away (he lived).

x3

I had to restart it too. I did everything else right but didn't realize Mordin's in danger of dying that way. I sent Tali as the tech because I like Legion better and wanted him out of harms way, sent Jacob as team leader both times because I like Zaeed, Garrus and Miri too much to take that risk and used Samara as the biotic for the long walk because I figured if anyone's got to be a strong biotic it must be the Asari eh. Mordin still died and I restarted right away without getting into the ending too much.  Anyways now I know how the mission works and I mix it up from time to time when I do it.

First Suicide Mission Playthrough Experience? hmm...cannot recall any other gaming experience more tense than having to decide which role to assign teammates. Ship Upgrades and teammate loyalty missions were a mandatory given for success. But one wrong decision....small wonder I was nearly hyperventilating. Then I saw the team's description choices and smacked myself in the head when I realized they just gave the answers as who was most suitable.
Tech Specialist: Tali was talented but Legion thinks at the speed of light. He seemed more likely to survive any traps.
Fire Team Leader: Garrus. Dossier said it all. Miranda was more of a risk due to lack of unanimous support
Biotic Specialist: Jack may have stamina but Samara had the discipline of 400 years worth of honing her biotics
Second Team Leader: Garrus. If it works, why break it?
Crew Escort: Tough choice here. Whoever took the crew back was essentially fighting alone. Needed someone who could absorb damage, but care enough about the crew to make sure all of them survived. Grunt hardly seemed sympathetic enough to help any stragglers, so, good luck Jacob!
The teammates I took on my team were Samara and Thane for most of it. Both had useful biotic abilities to take down Harbinger in a 1-2-3 hit. They also helped vastly in speeding up the demise of the reaper larva.
All in all, everyone got out alive. Second time I've ever been grateful for a meticulous nature

- Recruited everyone and they are all loyal -- everyone survive.

- Depleted every single planet (and finish all side mission) AFTER crew was captured.

Was actually thinking to myself - stupid RPGs always make things sounds important but in fact none of that urgency is taken into account.

>.<" So... I ended up with an empty ship. !##$%%^&*

Ah yes, the first scuicide mission. I remember it well...

- All party members were recruited and loyal (minus Kasumi, who hadn't been released yet)

- The Normandy was fully-upgraded.

- I went through the Omega-4 Relay immeeately after the attack on the Normandy, so no crew were lost thanks to me dragging my feet.

- Tech Specialist: Legion

- Biotic Specialist: Samara

- Fire/Distraction Team Leader: Garrus

- Crew Escort: Zaeed

- Mission Team: I kept a consistant team of Legion, Samara and Thane throughout the entire suicide mission with places being swapped out as nessessary to accomidate one of them acting as a specialist for a given phase. Ultimately Thane stayed behind on the defensive line while Legion and Samara came with me to the final battle.

- Blew the base up in a feiry explosion of "take that you scuttling bastards"-based justice

There were no casualties.

Team Leader: How about the coolest Turian who has a ton of dialouge about leading a team in  CQC.
Escort: Mordin was from the STG and had experience escorting squishies in hazardous zones, natural choice.
Hold The Line: Lets see those bugs get past, the best Krogan, Turian, Bounty Hunter, Assassain, Justicar, Geth Mobile Platform, and squad of badasses ever assembeled in one piece.
Also I wanted to make sure the crew was not going to be getting sick on the ship or being indoctrinated.

Also :Why yes I have seen the Twin Lamps they light the way to Freedom. B)

Everyone was loyal, all people recruited, conflicts resolved via blue persuasion

I left the IFF mission to last, so I left right after doing it and Legions Loyalty mission so no crew died.

Sent Tali into vents, obvious tech expert
Had Garrus lead the 1st team, since he had led teams before and done so well (well enough to get all the merc gangs on Omega after him, only lost them due to betrayal)

Kept Miranda and Kasumi with me.

Thane lead the crew back to the ship
Had Garrus lead the 2nd team as well
Samara was the Biotic expert

Kept my same team.

It all seemed like the obvious choices, and if you do all the missions in the game before doing the 'advance plot' missions, like the IFF, then I couldn't see a way to lose anyway *shrug*

I did lose people on my second play through, had Zaeed lead the first team, and I guess he isn't great for team leading.
