I'd imagine that it would likely be due to the abundance of mages as they are heavily controlled by the people in power.

Poo, though, I was really looking forward to shooting people in the face while casting AOE lightning spells and wearing massive armor.

Morrigan's are probably the most readily available though, i mean, she just wears lil purple cloth over hers, i'm sure a breeze would let em out.

Hey, you can always look forward to a gun mod, then.
My computer's crap. I openly admit to playing on the Xbox. Psh. No blunderbuss for me.

Well Red Cliff did have a stashe of oil and Ozamarr invented a low toxic coal mining process so...there is actually some form of technology.Roam Hylia wrote...
Ferelden doesn't appear to have access to any gunpowder. No guns, cannons or fireworks.

Guns don't necessitate steampunk. I mean, gunpowder factored into medieval warfare for a very long time. In fact, plate armor was created pretty much to be the only stuff that could stop guns, so it always strikes me as weird that you can get a full suit of plate armor but no rifles to shoot at it.

Actually, plate was created to defeat swords and arrows; the ancient Greeks and Romans used plate armor, but it fell out of use because of it's high cost. They kinda pre-dated firearms by quite some time. Firearms came around to defeat plate armor in the 15th century or so. As firearms became more powerful, armor usage dropped quite a bit until people stopped wearing it almost altogether (the only body armor used in WWI and WWII was the helmet), at least until the 1970's when a pizza delivery man came up with the great idea for kevlar body armor. But even today, most modern warriors (ie. Police officers) only wear a soft armor 'chestplate'; full body hard armor only being worn for special incidents or by the Military.

classical plate and medieval plate are entirely different. Yes, people have been using plate armor since big pieces of metal have existed, but it was not full-body. classical Mediterranean plate armor was usually restricted to a chestpiece, whereas full body suits of armor with moving parts didn't show up until at least the time of Charlemagne.

Steampunk, Dragon Age is not... sorry. I love steampunk myself as well; my favourite type of fantasy if done correctly. DA is more along the lines of middle-high fantasy, like lord of the rings but with more magic.
and being darker XD don't break our devs hearts by forgetting the hybrid they have created

Thankfully no. I can't stand steampunk. I like traditional medieval fantasy worlds. Swords and sorcery only, please.
