So I was planning on playing an archer themed rogue in DA:O, so I naturally rolled one of them in Journeys.
Short story, I found that the archer talents were not very good as compared with the rogue dual wield talents. I ended up using archery only while I was getting into melee range.
Then I rolled a mage, focused on killing (as the healer mage companion already provides that roll). The difference was drastic. That thing is one leathal killing machine!
So... the question naturally arises, how well do the classes reflect each other between games? Will I be as dissapointed with an archer rogue in Origins as I was in Journeys? Should I just roll a mage instead?
Ideas folks?
How much do the classes in DA:J reflect the classes in DA:O?

Since the skills are about one third of the main game, and i´m not sure that the balancing is the same i wouldn´t give too much on Journeys in ways of selecting your class.

Probably not that well is my guess.
A lot of the talents and spells function differently in DA:J than they do in DA:O. Flame Burst, for example, has an AoE of four squares in front of you in the former and a cone-shape in the latter.
Archery seems to drain a good deal of stamina every time you fire a basic attack, which is definitely not how it will work in DA:O... at least, according to everything I've read and seen.

Don't even bother making a comparison. If some stuff is similar, great. But just because it was awesome or sucked in DA:J, doesn't in the slightest meant it will be the same in the real game.

I expect Archery will be better in Origins than in Journeys.
That said, the warrior NPC makes a damn fine archer if you get a decent bow - even without buying archery talents. Get Pinning Shot and they become that much more awesome.

I would predict, with 99.48% confidence, that a game that has been in development for many years, with bagillions of $$$ behind it, by a team of talented individuals, could balance the game design orders of magnitude better-er than a casually made flash game most likely whipped up quickly solely for marketing purposes.
Short answer: very, very probably, very little.

If you compare the talent trees between Origins and Journey's they're pretty similar, but with some obvious differences to account for different gameplay mechanics. Personally I'd say just roll an archer in Origins and see how well it goes there; I doubt it will be as worthless as archery in Journey's.

I can safely say that at least some of the features are in fact at least slighty similar. But its not going to be the same, so don't let the flash reflect what you want to play in the actual game.Staylost wrote...

Yeah, I noticed when I was messing around with the character creator yesterday Journeys changed the talents quite a bit. For starters they're missing a third of them, and like half the spells. The archery talents in journeys are totally out of order compared to the character creator as well. They also nerfed quite a few talents and spells, for example in the full game several of the dual-weapon talents generate criticals and mind-blast hits everyone around you, not just a single target.

Not very well, I'd think. Journeys was made much more quickly and is a quick flash game. There would be less of a need to really balance all the classes.

The basic idea is the same, but much of the implementation is different.Nephilia wrote...

Yes, mages are superior to archery rogues.Should I just roll a mage instead?

On the other hand, there is no Knock spell here. So you'll need at least one rogue if you want to get those lockboxes and other things-that-stop-you-looting open.

Thanks for the reasuring answers folks. I can stop having those nightmares of spending all my stamina on a couple of "glancing blow" shots lol.
