Rather than commit genocide I think Citadel races should somehow inspire the Hegemony's own slaves to rebel and overthrow their government. It would be much more effective than actually waging war on the batarians and we'd lose much less in the process.

Sounds like a nice form of poetic justice.

But then again, so does pulling a Balak on them.

Hurting innocent batarians won't be any kind of revenge on Balak or the Hegemony. I doubt the Hegemony even endorsed Balak's actions, that's the kind of thing that could trigger all out war between the Alliance and the Hegemony.

The batarians look like they're in need of a cultural revolution if you ask me. And it's just waiting to happen. In caste systems the superior caste is usually only a small percent of the population, I'm guessing the batarian lower class is huge. They could probably overthrow their government at any moment if they wanted to, through sheer numbers.

Revenge is never the right thing in that situation anyway. Justice is what matters.

Here's what the Alliance should do.

1. level all Batarian colonies and force all of them back to Khar'shan

2. cripple Khar'shan's infrastructure badly enough that they will be incapable of spaceflight for centuries.

3. start a nuclear winter on Khar'shan

4. blockade the nearest mass relay to prevent other races from trafficking Batarians offworld

And then billions of innocent batarians starve/freeze to death while their civilisation is reduced to rubble, destroying any hope of giving a troubled species a chance of becoming an integral part of the galactic community.

Real classy, pal.

I don't think the Batarians are interested in becoming an integral part of galactic society.

Frankly, I don't think you know what they're interested in, bobobo. No one does. That's the whole point of the Department of Information Control.

lol generalizations

Take that Batarian prophet on Omega for example.  If Batarians wanted to be an integral part of galactic society, than he would stop ranting and get a job.

If we're going to base our points of isolated idiots ranting, then humans don't wish to be an integral part of the galactic society. See: Terra Firma Party

You're not being fair.  Terra Firma just thinks that humanity should resist alien influences so we don't get Shanxi'd again.

Lol. Well, you can also assume that any batarians on Omega are rogue individuals. Criminals, exiles, weirdos, etc.

Alas, if only that were true. I'm not a huge batarian fan and I don't argue from a place of affection. It takes a real effort not to join in on the batarian-bashing.

I mean it's not easy for me to forget Talitha, and the batarian practice of inserting brain chips without anesthesia.

Perhaps, but it could save billions by preventing future terrorist attacks.  Shepard and Jacob can't stop every big attack they plan.

Nightwriter: Human groups have done some pretty bad stuff too (e.g. Cerberus)

Aboard the Normandy, Commander Shepard can discuss Terra Firma's ideas with Ashley Williams.
Ashley is uncomfortable around aliens but gets angry if Shepard
compares her opinions to Terra Firma's: she calls them a bunch of
jackals who have strayed from the founders' original ideals, and hopes
her reasons are more rational than theirs.

It is a matter of opinion whether or not they are a bunch of jackals.

That's not what i wanted you to read. I kinda meant the first sentence, you know, where it talks about them not wanting humanity to integrate into galactic society, you know, the part that's relevant to what i was talking about? Yeah? Got it? Anybody home McFly? Anybody?

There's no need to persuade me, I'm not on the genociders' side.

The batarians are at a disadvantage because while we have seen good humans, we have seen few good batarians. It doesn't mean I'm going to allow myself to make generalizations.

And I think the Terra Firma party is a good analogy, we were talking about ranting lunatics, weren't we? When I passed the angry mob in the wards during ME1 I would have described them as ranting lunatics.

I'm not in support of eradicating the Batarians all together, they just need to be contained like the Yahg so they can't shoot any more meteors at human colonies, unleash any more super bugs on the citadel, or annoy any more shoppers on Omega.

Oh no, I understand what side you're on. I just thought I'd throw Cerberus out there so that it wasn't fully absent from the discussion.

And you are quite correct i think on the part of the batarians being at a disadvantage. I mean look at how the opinion of the geth changed after Legion.

Actually Cerberus is a pretty good thing to toss out there, I wouldn't want the galaxy to judge us based on Cerberus's behavior either. But it's not like the Alliance is endorsing Cerberus's actions, whereas the Hegemony is certainly endorsing the actions of batarian pirates and slavers.

I think Legion is proof that our whole perception of certain groups comes from our personal experiences, which is kind of scary. If Legion hadn't become known to us personally we'd still be operating under a massive misconception.

Or we could let them become enslaved by the reapers, that would be poetic justice.
