To sum it up, batarians are very much like humans - for better or worse.

"Slavery is an integral part of the batarian caste system, despite being illegal according to Council law, and it is currently unknown how the batarians maintained standing on the Citadel for so long with slavery still actively practiced. The custom is so deeply ingrained in batarian culture that batarians consider the Council's anti-slavery standing to be prejudicial."
You know, the Shepards (my family) have another custom: To shoot any slaver in the face with a shotgun + Inferno ammo. Killing slavers is an integral part of our family traditions, despite being groups (or even an entire race) of slavers complaining about it. The custom is so deeply ingrained in our culture that the Shepards consider those anti-anti-slavery complaints to be prejudicial.

I would like to know what happened to that one Batarian who I had to let go in Bring Down the Sky. By that I mean I would like to track down Balak and introduce him to my Phalanx HP.

However, if given the opportunity to do so, I would inflict the very same methods, used by the slavers, onto those who do engage in these activities - without having remorse about it.
Such as: implanting cranial devices in their skulls without the use of an anesthetic, locking them in a cage for hours on end and so forth.
It may seem a little extreme to some, but I do believe the expression "an eye for an eye" is most befitting in this case.

Well of course not!AriesXX7 wrote...
I would not hold the entire species accountable for the actions of some, since I have read that not all Batarians participate in the slavery rings.
I mean, some of them have to be slaves.

That said, I don't agree with genocide. The batarian propensity for taking slaves and treated them despicably is a cultural trait, not a genetic trait. If you raised a batarian child from birth in human society, I doubt they're going to grow up thinking slavery is cool. I think the best the Alliance can do is defend their own borders strenuously, warn their citizens against straying into the Terminus (the Alliance can't be expected to protect people from their own stupidity), and practice massive retaliation for batarian raids into Alliance territory. For every Mindoir, there has to be a Torfan without exception. Eventually the batarians will hopefully learn that it's not worth raiding Alliance territory and move on to easier targets.

The Batarians are rabid dogs and if you don't feel like putting them down at least lock them up tight so they can't hurt anyone.

Sometimes the only way to slay a monster is with another, bigger, monster. Ladies and Gentlemen we can become that monster. The galaxy will hate us for it but they'll still enjoy the benefits of our work.

I think I've come up with a solution that doesn't involve genocide but solves the Batarian problem permanently. The Alliance in concert with other Council races launch a massive military campaign against the Batarians, conquering every colony world and slowly pushing them back so the only Batarian controlled world is their homeworld. At every colony any soldiers who surrender and all Batarian civillians will be detained and once we've fought them back to their homeworld will be shuttled there. We will then set up a massive military blockade and from that point on nothing leaves or enters their atmosphere. Anything, be it civillian vessel, satellite, probe, etc caught attempting to exit the atmosphere will be destroyed, and any vessel trying to enter the atmosphere will be impounded and the crew sentenced to a 3 year sentence, with the only exceptions being prison vessels dropping any Batarian criminals who happened to be offworld at the time of the campaign. These vessels will be extensively scanned and inspected everytime they leave the planet's surface.
The Batarians are rabid dogs and if you don't feel like putting them down at least lock them up tight so they can't hurt anyone.
So instead of a solution based on Auschwitz, we have a solution based on the Warsaw Ghetto instead? How is this better? Instead of just wiping them out, we force billions and billions of batarians to live on a crowded planet with limited resources and don't let anything in or out. How long before their resources run out and disease and starvation run rampant, followed by complete anarchy?
I think I actually preferred the genocide option to this.

I'm waiting for economic recovery to be condemned for its "unfortunate associations with the rise of the Reich".

They have an opportunity to survive, whether or not they take advantage of it is their choice.

Followed by a massive population drop, followed by a levelling off, followed by a return to more agrarian civilization from which they can start over. It's essentially the Krogan social model, the Batarians reached their peak but didn't quite get it right so we knock them back and let them try again.
Edit: Also considering the losses involved in such a military campaign over population probably wouldn't be as big an issue as you think.

So long as the Batarian issue is contained I'm happy. Whether that be by destruction or quarantine makes no difference to me.
Edited: I felt the rabid dog refence went a bit too far.

Uncertain. 3 planning to torture David; any number of Blue Suns engaged in running the Purgatory (a slave market), hunting Archangel (who ruined their criminal enterprises), or involved in the Archeological Dig Site → MSV Strontium Mule → Blue Suns Base sequence (in which they're acting as pirates); and the radicals in the Javelin Missiles Launched mission. That's directly encountered; but we can attach Mindoir and the Blitz to that list to add a few thousand.Mesina2 wrote...

Roughly equal to batarian numbers in missions involving the Blue Suns, plus those working for Eclipse. Still less than the Blitz. How many Humans did we saw as bad guys?
Even less than the other two, since they only appear working for Eclipse and never raided human colonies for slaves. How many Asari did we see as bad guys?
Your math is bad.I'm pretty sure Batarians have lowest number of bad guys.
I've left ME1 references out, on further consideration, because any of the generic mercenaries or pirates encountered that weren't clearly turians or Nassana's sister could be human, batarian, or asari while wearing helmets.
