In this kind of games (NWN2 & DA:O) I ever get
trouble to decide what companion I must pickup. I suggest that the number of the possible
followers don't be bigger than maximum party members. (IE: In Dragon Age they
would be only 3).

For the variety, it should be possible to
choose among all the actual members, but when a member was added, it is
necessary that you cannot be able to change for other at any time, like it
happens now.

For example: I start with the dog, then I meet
Alistair, and with Morrigan I have a full party. When I meet Leliana, at this
moment I need to decide if I add her by tossing another member like the dog, or
refuse Leliana's offer to join me, (the dialog should be clear in explaining
that I will never be able to travel with the member that toss here).

Another system (that I prefer much more). There will be only 3 NPC willing to join the party. Who will be they? well, at the beginning,
in the character planning screen, there will be a section with a list of
possible followers with descriptions of their personality and, maybe, a chance
to personalize their skills?

These are only two suggestions, but there should
be more ways. This would simplify the programming of the game,
adds coherence to the plot, and facilitates to enrich the followers charisma.
