In your opinion. This isn't even defending a character; it's turning into a pissing match about who is correct.

Of course. My views regarding the comic are subjective. Where did I state otherwise?

I think the other people here got that covered. :?

Yeah.

Les' dry, British, humor doesn't transfer well onto the internets.  But I was able to see that he was making a funny. :P

Hey, you know, standard forum protocol is supposed to still be in effect even this section of the forums if everyone would like to just step back and chill out.

Fair enough, Pacifien. I'm willing to be the mature adult here and just leave it.

Again, snark, sarcasm, "joking around" when it can be read as an insult, should not be used. Common sense behavior.

Lol.

So, I wonder what trouble Bailey is going to get in to. From what we see in ME2, he walks a dangerous line between legal and illegal.

Hey, I don't like that comic much either (though it is starting to grow on me. Still wish they did a better job, since it doesn't explain how Liara character went from ME1 to Redemption in 3 months, plus plot holes and logic errors.) I'm just saying it seems rude from someone that likes the comic, as it shows. Nuff said.

Anyways, again Drew's reason doesn't fit with this comic. Does Udina really need to be the Councilor to start an investigation? Because when it came to Saren, that wasn't a problem, nor during the first book with the other Councilor.

My guess is they're doing it because of the PS3 version, which will force people with Udina. (unless you can change that in the default version. Can you?)

You choose the Councilor at the beginning of ME2. I think they chose Udina by default because they had to set who the councilor would be because a constant use of pronouns and shadowy figures wouldn't work very well for a character they want to have in there constantly

Besides, I think it makes ore sense for Udina to have the rotten politician job, anyway.

I love Bailey, btw. Can't wait to read more featuring him. That will be awesome :P

I am a moderator of the people now. Also a moderator of the season.

I don't think there's ever been a definitive rule about spoilers in this particular section. No large stamp saying they aren't allowed anyway.

In ME 2 it defaults to Udina, unless you imported a ME 1 save, in which case you can choose who is councilor at the beginning of the game (the save system in ME1 was broken for that decision.)

Yeah, I forgot about this. In my defense, I've never not imported

I didn't have an import for first my play through, but when I finished, I went right out and got the first game. (I hadn't played it.)

Yeah, just confirmed it myself. Honestly, because of the PS3 version and the new default players, I think that's the real reason why Udina is the Councilor in the books and comics.

It's kind of strange though, because it seems like hardly anyone who played ME 1 would choose Udian unless they wanted to max out on Renegade points. Anderson helps you no matter what and Udina treats you like a jerk.

It is odd, but that's the way they did it. Maybe we'll find out why later...

And congrats on getting ME1. You have purchased a spectacular game :)

Idk . . . I always chose Anderson, but after seeing how miserable he is playing the politician, it makes me much more willing to let Udina get his hands dirty.

Oh wow, so I take it this means that the books don't fit in with all playthroughs and that they can't explain it away by saying Anderson stepped down after ME2...

That's how I understand it, yeah.

If that's the case, then Retribution could've never happened in my game is what he's saying.

But his reasons don't work. Anderson quits. That's the easiest way to get around that. Is it stupid for a Councilor to quit because he wants to stop a Cerberus? Maybe. But it still works. It still just seems like he just didn't realized he solved his own problem, but created another one.

Welp, according to Drew Karpyshyn, Anderson can't quit if he's councilor. Basically, no matter what, Udina is Councilor.

Oh well, that sucks. Interesting that they went with Udina - didn't most of us go with Anderson?

So if Anderson couldn't have quit his councilor post during the events of Retribution, what the heck happened in Councilor Anderson versions of the ME universe? Udina saved everyone from the Grayson/Reaper thing? ;)

I'm guessing this all has to do with Thane's loyalty mission:

If Shep failed to stop Kolyat (Thane's son) from killing Talid (corrupt turian politician), or simply didn't undertake the mission at all (or didn't even recruit Thane to begin with), then Kolyat kills Talid, Talid becomes a martyr for the anti-human movement. If Talid was saved, then he becomes more powerful, the fact that a human saved him doesn't matter, because his anti-human stance is good business. Either way, anti-human sentiment becomes a problem. TIM gives Elias Kelham political support to counter-balance the growing alien influence (as hinted at the end of the mission). Udina is dirty, and working with Kelham somehow. They decide that Executor Pallin, as an alien, is a threat, so they set him up, so a human Executor (Bailey) can take over and clean house.

I think what the writers want by making Udina councillor is that it will add more drama and confrontation in ME3 and maybe set up missions trying to convince people about the reapers than if you had Anderson as councillor or something along those lines.
