I'm trying to use the tag in a dialogue, but I keep getting a strange tag error.

When I write " and Gorim returned to Orzammar" or "Gorim and returned to Orzammar," I get an error saying that the tag is malformed and needs editing. But when I write " Gorim returned to Orzammar," I don't get the error.

Why can't I use "and" near ??? It seems rather odd. Or perhaps there's something else going on?

Perhaps I've misunderstood, but I'm not sure why you'd want to have such a long phrase in a creature's tag.

What the creature says normally goes in the dialogue field, not the tag.

Blanks are not allowed in a creature tag, so I'm not sure why the conversation editor allows any of those phrases.

However, for what it's worth, I can reproduce the behaviour.

Did you try selecting the creature tag from the dropdown list (...) ?

Perhaps "tag" was the wrong way to describe it.

I'm writing dialogue. In the conversation nodes (not in the speaker tag area), when I write "[FirstName/] and Gorim returned to Orzammar" or "Gorim and [FirstName/] returned to Orzammar," I get the malformed tag error. But when I get rid of the "and," the error doesn't appear.

The tag should be within angle brackets, not square (unless you changed that to post here)

Is that dialogue wrapped in <desc> tags or similar? I've found the editor doesn't like having too much text between tags, maybe the extra four characters for " and" are tipping it over.

@Timelord
I changed it to post here. The angle brackets made the tag disappear in my original post.

@Mengtzu
There are no other tags except two other [FirstName/] tags. It's the cutscene_slideshow file that I'm working on if that makes a difference.

The line is: "Gorim and [FirstName/] returned to Orzammar. King Harrowmont recommended that, upon his death, [FirstName/] be restored to the dwarven throne. Having once been very popular with the Assembly, [FirstName/] was easily voted the new ruler of Orzammar."

If I get rid of the first "and," it works. If I change the second [FirstName/] to "King Endrin's only surviving child," it works. It just seems like an odd error with no noticeable pattern. I got around it, but it still perplexes me.

The bug probably has something to do with the overall line length, which is way over the safe limit of 200 characters.

I can make it go away by deleting any 4 characters - there doesn't seem to be anything special about "and".

I don't think the length is the issue though. This is the cutscene_slideshow not a spoken dialogue. Many of the original lines are above 200 characters as well. There are original content lines in excess of 300 characters. The line I wrote was only 246 characters. I can get rid of one of the tags and replace it with more characters and not have the problem.

There's something else going on. It's not a big deal as I replaced the tag with a longer phrase with no trouble; it's just a point of perplexity for me. I'd like a good explanation as to why it's happening.
